Chapter 011: Cafe Date

Chapter 011: Cafe Date

“I am back, Hajin!” Oliver yelled as he got inside his apartment and put his luggage in the living room. “The mission got canceled halfway through, so I came earlier than expected.”

“That’s great!” Hajin said as he entered the living room. “I made bread in home economics today. I enjoyed making it.”

“How good was it?” Oliver asked.

“It was delicious. You know, maybe I’ll open a bakery in the future.” Hajin said with a smile. “Making bread was such a relaxing experience. I wouldn’t mind doing that for the rest of my life.”

“I am glad you found something you enjoy, Hajin!” Oliver smiled. “Once you’re ready to open it, I’ll help you.”

“Thanks, Oliver!” Hajin continued smiling. “You’re the best brother I could ask for. You have always been there for me and even more after our parents died.”

“I don’t want you joining the military right after high school like me. I want you to follow your dreams.” Oliver said.

“You sacrificed so much for me, Oliver.” Hajin said. “When are you going to follow your dreams?”

“Well, I already am.” Oliver responded. “After joining the military, I found new goals and dreams; they might not be the same dreams high school me had, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

“I see.” Hajin said. “I am going to the store to buy ingredients to make bread. Do you need anything?”

“I don’t think I need anything at the moment.” Oliver responded.

“I’ll be right back.” Hajin said before exiting the apartment.

I forgot to tell him I have a date tonight. Oliver thought after hearing the door close. I’ll tell him once I am heading out. Where should I take Nicole for our first date? We should get coffee and walk around Shibuya Plaza.

Oliver grabbed his luggage and quickly headed to his room. He began to put his dirty clothes into his laundry basket. Upon seeing how full the basket was, Oliver took the basket to the laundry room and began washing his clothes. While waiting for the washing machine to finish, Oliver decided to start cooking. When he opened the fridge, he saw some eggs and took out enough for 2 people. Oliver made scrambled eggs, took his share, and left the rest for Hajin. As he ate, he began thinking about Nicole.

I can’t believe I am going on a date with Nicole. We have only known each other for a few days. Oliver thought as he ate. I guess things happening spontaneously can be good at times. I just hope Colonel Miyamoto doesn’t get angry at me.

After finishing his meal Oliver washed the dishes and as soon as he finished, he heard the washing machine stop, so he went back to the laundry room and put his clothes in the dryer. Oliver sat down and started reading a novel on his phone. After a few minutes Hajin came back home with the ingredients he needed to make bread. He ate the eggs and went back to his room to finish homework. After taking out his clothes from the dryer, Oliver decided on his outfit, a gray coat, a white t-shirt, black pants, and brown shoes. After getting ready, Oliver headed out. He saw that Hajin was busy making bread.

“I am going out. I don’t know when I’ll be back.” Oliver said.

“Okay, make sure to eat some of my bread when you come back.” Hajin said.

“Of course. Don’t burn down the house.” Oliver said before leaving.

Oliver started driving his car towards Nicole’s house. The closer he got to Nicole’s house the more nervous he became.

I hope Colonel Miyamoto is not angry. I am taking his precious daughter out on a date. Oliver thought. Colonel Miyamoto is Mrs. Hashimoto’s boss, and she is my boss. I hope I don't get stuck with difficult tasks at work.

Oliver parked his car on the street and walked towards the door, he knocked on the door. After a few seconds the door opened, and Oliver could see Colonel Miyamoto wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt.

“Good evening, Oliver.” Kenta said in an indifferent tone. “Nic should be almost ready. I would say to protect my daughter, but she is more powerful than you.”

“Yeah, she is an excellent soldier.” Oliver replied.

“Don’t dare break her heart or you’ll finally know why they call me The Demon King.” Kenta said. “Take care of her heart.”

“I won’t. But just in case, I’ll get ready to summon some heroes.” Oliver said with a confident smile.

“Hahaha. You’re a good kid. I am glad Ayano took you as her apprentice.” Kenta said.

“Oliver, let’s go!” Nicole said, coming out of her house. She was wearing a knitted white sweater, blue skinny jeans, and light brown boots. She grabbed Oliver’s hand. “I’ll be back later, Dad.”

“Don’t have too much fun out there. You guys work tomorrow.” Kenta said.

Oliver guided Nicole to his car and opened the passenger side door for her.

“What a gentleman, Oliver!” Nicole said with a smile.

“I have to do my best if I want to impress you.” Oliver said as Nicole got into the car and then he closed the door and got into the car.

“What are we doing? You haven’t told me anything.” Nicole asked.

“We’re going to Jeju Cafe and then we’ll take a walk around Shibuya Plaza.” Oliver responded, starting the car. He then began driving towards downtown Sol City.

“I heard of Jeju Cafe, But I have never been there. Isn’t that the one opened by one of the heroes about 50,000 years ago?” Nicole asked.

“Yeah, I can’t even imagine how Jeju Cafe has been able to exist for so long.” Oliver replied. “It’s been 50,000 years since the first heroes were summoned and sealed the Demon King.”

“That’s a long time, I wonder about the power of the Demon King. He must’ve been powerful if they couldn’t kill it and had to be sealed until another round of summoned heroes killed him centuries later when he unsealed himself.” Nicole said. “And now everyone in Lunaria is a descendant of the heroes.”

“I wonder if we are going to live during an important historic event like the heroes.” Oliver pondered. “Well, I hope not because that event had lots of destruction.”

“Yeah, I prefer a peaceful era over one full of destruction.” Nicole added.

After ten minutes the couple arrived at downtown Sol City. Oliver parked his car in a parking garage. He got out of the car and opened the door for Nicole. Nicole was smiling as she got out of the car and once he closed the door, she held his hand tightly. While walking towards Jeju Cafe, the couple could observe the many skyscrapers around the city and the five moons were visible. Many people were still walking around and the whole place was full of life. Oliver stopped for a moment and looked at Muna before resuming walking. The couple quickly approached a building that had the aesthetic of medieval times and had a sign that read, “Jeju Cafe.” When they entered the cafe, they could see it was full, yet the line wasn’t that long. They waited for a few minutes before placing their orders.

“Hello! Welcome to Jeju Cafe, what can we get for you?” The girl behind the counter asked.

“I want a large hot mocha.” Oliver responded.

“Give me the same as him.” Nicole responded.

“Would that be all?” The girl asked. Oliver looked at Nicole and she nodded,

“Yeah.” Oliver replied.

“That would be 500 Runes. And what name should I put for the order?” The girl asked.

“Oliver.” Oliver answered as he used his phone to pay for the coffee.

“Thank you very much, we'll call you once your order is ready.” The girl said.

After a few minutes their order was ready. After getting their coffees, the couple walked towards Shibuya Plaza. Shibuya Plaza was in the middle of downtown with ample space and trees all around it. Benches could be seen all over the plaza. People of all ages were in the plaza. At the center of the plaza the statue of the hero that sealed the Demon King stood strong.

“It’s so beautiful at night!” Nicole said, smiling. She stepped forward and gazed at the moons. “I never walked through Shibuya Plaza at night. It gives off a mystic atmosphere, especially tonight that all five moons are visible!”

“That’s why I brought you here!” Oliver said, taking a picture of Nicole and the moons. “Such a beautiful view.”

“Is the hero the ancestor of everyone in Lunaria? Or what do you think Oliver?” Nicole asked while looking at the statue.

“The statue depicts the hero using Armor Ascension and everyone on Lunaria can use it, so it’s highly likely that he is everyone’s ancestor.” Oliver explained.

“I see.” Nicole said. She looked straight into Oliver’s eyes. “Let’s keep going on dates casually. I don’t want something serious until you’re ready.”

“What do you mean?” Oliver was confused.

“I can tell you still have Aria in your heart.” Nicole responded. “I want to fully win your heart, so I hope that you can figure out your feelings soon.”

“I …” Oliver didn’t know what to say.

“I’ll wait for you. Let me do something to help you organize your feelings.” Nicole said as she approached Oliver. She grabbed his hand, tiptoed, and kissed Oliver on the lips. Oliver kissed her back and under five moons a new special memory was born for Oliver and Nicole.
