Chapter 012: Earth

“It’s not even making a dent on the energy of Pure Magical Energy Crystal; we can make one that draws even more power.” Ayano declared. “It’s recovering energy faster than we use it.”

“Just how much energy is the Inter-World Spaceship going to need?” Oliver asked.

“I estimate it should be enough once we are drawing the same energy as it recovers.” Ayano responded. “I am impressed you came up with these Magic Amplifiers although they are more like Energy Converters.”

“I made them with the intention of amplifying magic by using the Magical Energy in the environment and the discovery of Pure Magical Energy Crystal just made them get the purpose of converting the energy into energy we can use.” Oliver explained.

“You did well. As expected of my apprentice.” Ayano replied. “Now thanks to this the energy issue is resolved and we should be able to have something working in about 2 years.”

“Mrs. Hashimoto, why did you start working on this project?” Oliver asked.

“My mother was transported to this world when she was 25 years old. Just like the heroes and the other people that have been transported throughout the millennia to Lunaria. All of them have come from Earth. She told me so much from her home country Japan, so I want to visit the place where my mother came from.” Ayano answered with a smile. “She spoke of Japan with so much love, yet she could never go back. So, I’ll go there in her stead.”

“The world of the heroes, Earth. I mean all the heroes that were summoned with the spell we are using for this project came from Earth, so most likely we'll be traveling to Earth.” Oliver said. “A world with no Magic, I wish to experience it.”

“Don’t get your hopes up.” Ayano said. “My mother told me that in the year 2020 on Earth, Magic began appearing. But not everyone could use Magic, only a select few could.”

“That’s interesting. I am wondering how Earth became a Magic world.” Oliver said.

“We’ll find out once we get there.” Ayano added. “All of our technology evolved thanks to the people on Earth that got transported here. My mother was even surprised that her knowledge as a Telecommunications Engineer could be applied here. Thanks to her we have almost instant communications between Lunaria and the bases on its moons.”

“Hopefully, when we go to Earth, we can help the people there just like the people that got transported here helped us.” Oliver said.

“We still have a lot of work to do to make that a reality.” Ayano said.

“The past month we made so many different Magic Amplifiers, so can I repurpose them to make Elemental Guns for Platoon 12? Even maybe upgrading some of the Moon Units?” Oliver asked.

“The Elemental Guns should be fine; I will have to ask Kenta about the Moon Units. He will have to get approval from his superiors” Ayano answered. “I asked to get more Pure Magical Energy Crystals and we should be getting them sometime next week.”

“I guess it makes sense we need approval. They are not going to let just anyone work on the Moon Units.” Oliver said.

“Although, we could work on Aria’s and Nicole’s Moon Units. Afterall, they were awarded to me and Kenta. We gave them to our respective daughters.” Ayano said. “Aria has been feeling down. Did you choose to go out with Nicole?”

“We’re just going on dates casually. I still need to sort out my feelings.” Oliver responded, avoiding eye contact with Ayano.

“It seems to me that you’re just playing with my daughter’s heart and with Nicole’s heart.” Ayano scolded Oliver. “Make up your mind soon. Kenta is not going to be happy if you continue playing with Nicole.”

“I understand, it's just that I can’t seem to understand my own feelings. At the moment, I have feelings for both, it’s just that I haven’t seen Aria in a while.” Oliver said.

“Oliver you’re smart, but you’re also an idiot.” Ayano continued scolding. “Why did my Aria have to fall for such an indecisive guy?”

“Oliver!” Aria yelled as she entered the lab. “I got approval for you to use a Moon Unit. Let’s take a flight together, I’ll take my own Moon Unit.”

“Sure!” Oliver was surprised.

“Sorry, Mom!” Aria apologized as she grabbed Oliver’s hand and took him with her. “But this is important.”

“I guess, I’ll just have to finish today’s work by myself.” Ayano said, seeing Aria taking Oliver with her. “I remember when I was young. Sorry Nicole, but I believe that Olive and Aria work better as a couple.”

Oliver was dragged by Aria all the way to the hangar where he could see all the Moon Units. The Sol City Military Base had one hundred Moon Units and all of them were housed in the hangar. The Moon Units were 9 meters tall and had a variety of weapons. The weapons included: machine guns, sniper rifles, cannons, swords, and missiles.

“I’ll be using mine. I got permission for you to use an instruction model.” Aria explained as she took Oliver right in front of a gray Moon Unit with no weapons. “I’ll go and get my Moon Unit. Let’s meet at the training field.”

“Then, I’ll see you out there, Aria.” Oliver said with a smile.

Aria left to get her personal Moon Unit, while Oliver got into the cockpit of the Instructional Moon Unit. Oliver sat down and spent a bit of time trying to find a comfortable position. After getting comfortable, Oliver started to look at the controls of the Moon Unit and refreshed his memory.

‘It’s been quite some time since I piloted one of these’ Oliver thought as he started up the Moon Unit. The sound of the engine starting engulfed Oliver, but after a couple of seconds the sound became quiet. The displays turned on and the check for communications started. After a few seconds the display showed that the Moon Unit was connected to the military base’s network and the Moon Unit was ready to be operated.

The Moon Unit stood up and began walking towards the training field. Little by little Oliver began to increase the speed of the Moon Unit as his pilot instinct returned.

‘I wish I had my own Moon Unit, but I can’t afford one. They are not going to give one to a researcher.’ Oliver thought as he headed towards the training field. ‘I can’t wait until we take flight. I am glad I decided to take piloting classes as my elective. The test was the hardest, but I managed to get my license.’

After a couple of minutes Oliver arrived at the training field. The open space of the training field allowed for the soldiers to train using the Moon Units. At the center of the training field, Oliver could see a 10-meter red Moon Unit. Aria’s Moon Unit was a newer model than the one Oliver was piloting and belonged solely to her, yet she still needed permission to use it outside of missions due to the military regulations.

‘I wonder where we are going.’ Oliver thought as he approached Aria’s Moon Unit.
