Chapter 005: Arriving In Muna

As the spaceship descended into Muna, Oliver looked out of the window of his room. He could see Muna’s outpost inside one of the craters and partially covered by rock formation.

This is it. My first time as a Head Researcher on a mission. Oliver's thoughts were all over the place as the spaceship got closer to Muna. I hope I do well. No, I must do well or else my funding won’t get approved. I’ll deal with my love life afterwards.

Oliver heard a knock on his door.

“Grab whatever you need because as soon as we land, we’ll be heading straight to the cave.” Oliver could hear Aria’s voice through the door. “We’ll be in the lobby. Please hurry!”

“I’ll be there in a bit!” Oliver responded. As he heard Aria walking away Oliver opened his backpack and made sure all his tools and material were in there. Once he confirmed he had everything he needed he exited the room and headed towards the lobby. At the lobby he could see that Roger, Aria, and Jin-Woo were already sitting down waiting for everyone else.

“We should be getting some action soon, Oliver!! Are you ready!?” Roger said enthusiastically.

“Of course, I am all prepared!” Oliver replied.

“Don’t worry too much about combat, Oliver! We got it covered, just focus on getting samples of the material and analyzing it!” Jin-Woo confidently said.

“I’ll be in your care, then!” Oliver said with a happy expression.

“I’ll be the one to protect you, Oliver!!” Nicole said as soon as she entered the lobby. “I’m quite strong. Even more than Jin-Woo!”

“Since you are trash talking my brother, I won’t give you any buffs during battle, Nicole!” Yuri said as she arrived at the lobby.

“Sorry, Jin-Woo!! I just wanted to look good in front of Oliver!” Nicole said.

“No worries, we’re part of the same team! This kind of banter is perfectly normal.” Jin-Woo said and then looked at Yuri.

“As the Support, I need you guys to attack and defend, so of course I would give you all buffs!” Yuri responded. “It’s all just to keep myself safe and sound!”

“We just landed! Let’s go, everyone!” Roger commanded. “The guide will meet us as soon as we get out of the ship. Grab your guns and supplies.”

“Yes, sir!” Jin-Woo, Nicole, Yuri, and Aria responded in unison.

“Of course!” Oliver responded.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

Everyone headed to the room where all the weapons and supplies were stored and grabbed what they needed for their upcoming battle. Roger, Jin-Woo, Aria, Nicole, and Yuri each grabbed a machine gun, a handgun, a knife, and a backpack full of supplies such as bullets, potions, and some food. On the other hand, Oliver only grabbed a handgun, a knife and placed some potions and food in his backpack. After everyone was ready, they exited the spaceship. They found a middle-aged man with some gray hairs waiting for them right outside the spaceship.

“Hello everyone, my name is Hiro Onu, and I will be your guide.” Hiro said while saluting to the group.

“How is the situation?” Roger asked.

“The weaker monsters have started to come out of the cave. Nothing we can’t handle, but in this outpost, we don’t have the same battle resources as Lunaria.” Hiro explained. “As for the material, we got a little piece of it, and we couldn’t identify what it does or even if it has any special properties. So far, we only know that it is extremely sturdy.”

“This guy right here will take care of analyzing the material.” Roger said while patting Oliver on the back. “The rest of us will take care of the monsters. You guys have nothing to worry about!”

“Then, we’ll be counting on you guys!” Hiro responded. “Let me take you to the cave. Follow me.”

Everyone nodded and Hiro began walking towards the cave. As they walked Oliver was fascinated looking at the environments of Muna. He could see violet and slate trees, blue grass, and flowers with spikes. The flora was completely different from what he could observe back on Lunaria. Meanwhile, the fauna was more like the one in Lunaria with insects the size of small birds and small mammals resembling the ones in Lunaria with the only difference being the two tails they had.

“Muna is way different than Luna.” Oliver commented.

“I forgot you have only traveled to Luna.” Aria said. “Yeah, each one of the five moons of Lunaria is quite unique! We should visit the other ones when we have time!”

“I would love to do that!” Oliver responded with a smile.

“Then, I’ll also join you guys!” Nicole said with a playful tone. “I can’t let you get ahead of me, Aria!”

“Stay focused, I just heard some monsters!” Roger commanded. “Get ready for combat, the sound it’s getting closer!”

Oliver took out his handgun, while everyone else pointed their machine guns towards where the sound was coming from. After a few seconds a dozen 1 meter yellow-eyed bipedal black creatures with horns and long claws appeared. Within moments of the appearance of the monsters, the sound of the machine guns firing could be heard. After a few seconds the monsters that had ventured out were just lifeless corpses.

“Take the Magic Stones out of the monsters’ bodies.” Roger commanded as he approached a monster corpse. He then took out his knife, cut open the chest, and took out a small black sphere. “They’re not too big, we could carry many of these.”

After collecting all the Magic Stones, the group resumed their journey towards the cave. As they approached the cave, they could hear more monsters; Roger signaled to the team to try and catch the monsters by surprise. The group sneaked using the rocks as cover and as soon as the cave entrance came into view, they saw about 100 monsters protecting the entrance. Roger signaled for Aria to attack. Aria nodded and began gathering Magical Energy on the palm of her hands as she rushed towards the monsters.

“FIRE TORNADO!!!” Aria yelled as Wind Magic was unleashed from her left hand and Fire Magic from her right hand.

The combination of both Magic Attacks made the flames travel in a spiral towards the monsters. The attack was quick and within a few moments all the monsters were screaming in pain as the flames engulfed all of them. Jin-Woo came running behind Aria and quickly gunned down all the monsters.

“That was fast, not even ten seconds!” Hiro exclaimed. “I’ll be heading back to the base. Be careful in the cave, we don’t know what else lies in there.”

“Leave the cave to us!” Roger said with a confident smile. “I am confident we can clear it within the deadline!”

“Thank you very much!” Hiro replied, then he began walking back to the base.

“Alright everyone let’s do this! We kill all those monsters in the cave and then we go back to Lunaria!” Roger said.

“Let’s call those monsters Muna Imps, just in case there are other types of monsters inside.” Oliver suggested.

“Why would giving a monster a name matter?” Nicole questioned.

“To better communicate to each other what we are referring to.” Oliver responded. “If there happens to be another type of monster inside it will be easier to give commands on which monsters to focus.”

“I never thought about that.” Nicole said.

“We’ll take your suggestion, Oliver.” Roger said. “Yuri cast some buffs on us before we enter the cave.”

“Got it!” Yuri replied. She began to concentrate and after a couple of seconds she waved her hands. “SPEED, STRENGTH, DEFENSE, RECOVERY!”

A bright light engulfed everyone and after it disappeared, Oliver felt that his physical capabilities had been enhanced and his fatigue was completely gone.

“Let’s go, everyone!!” Roger commanded.
