203. Prelude- War of Trinity Gods
Clay’s mind is in complete chaos as his body laid on the floor like lump of meat battered a hundred times his limbs are twisted. As someone who had experienced teleportation mishaps before, he is quite aware how terrible things can become and he ending up incapacitated is normal. In fact, even if he loses a limb or two or ends up not being able to feel his body or control his mana, these are still considered acceptable.
However, to be teleported to an area where a fight is about to break out is something he had never anticipated. Coincidence or not, Clay had no time to think about extreme statistical probability as his bigger worry are the abnormal level of strength he detected the instant he materialized.
For the first time since he reincarnated to this world, he felt a strong instinctive desire to escape but sadly, he could not move an inch as if his soul separated from his body.
(You are awfully calm. I like that from an invader. )
[Why should I fear a lowly Warlock?]
(Indeed. I’m just here to kill you. Why would anyone be afraid of dying? Did you really think you can escape our divination by tweaking the Cycle of Life?)
Clay is lying on the floor like piece of cockroach smashed to the ground and even with his mana circulation completely disrupted, he could feel the presence of two terrifying entities nearby.
[My name is Quarak. I’m a Median God from Serapensha Twighlight Circle. Make a contract with me, I will make sure you will gain an ability to Planar Transfer.]
(What makes you think I’m interested with Planar Transfer? With such pitiful incarnation, what makes you think you could entice a lowly Warlock?)
Clay calmly concentrated in an attempt to regaining control of his body. He does not know what happened during the teleportation but he is certain a soul-related spell was casted on him and while it was a split second, it severed his consciousness and his mana circulation.
[If you kill me, you will be stuck and will be forever a subordinate and… Listen to me!!!]
Clay did not panic and while he was thinking for a way to escape, he suddenly felt connection with his eyes but at the same time, he felt a surging and suffocating ripple of energy and when he opened his eyes, he felt his body slowly levitated but then blown away by a strong gust of wind throwing his body a few meters then dropped and rolled like a piece of rag.
Clay could barely feel anything but after another second, he felt a tingling sensation in his ears then followed by a deafening ringing sound.
[Listen to me! Allow me to gain divinity, I will show you…. Arggggg!!!]
(You’re quite noisy for a Median God.)
Clay is still paralyzed but with the position on how his body landed, his curled body now allows him to see blurry figures. He cannot see very well but there seem to be a man with four pristine white wings strangling what looks like a human shrouded in dark mist.
[Mark my word you filthy Warlock! Once we gain control of this Plane, we will start with you and your ….]
(For a so-called Median God to produce only this much of Trinity Stone, you need to cultivate more.)
Clay helplessly watched as the angel-looking entity touch the navel of the other party and extracted a glowing violet orb from the man. As for what awaits him, he had already given up and can only accept his fate.
He still could not fathom how he got caught up within the fight of two god-like figures. If only he could circulate his mana so he could at least use his special ability and see through their strengths before he dies. From his experience, he can tell the angel has similar strength similar to Midi but the other figure’s aura bears resemblance to Nosfera.
He has so many questions but he can only blame his luck and wait for his demise.
Time passed and as Clay is absorbed in his thoughts, he no longer cared as he knew he will die today.
Clay ignored the pain and allowed his consciousness to drift but after a few more seconds, his thoughts were disrupted.
“You’re quite resilient for a human.”
Clay was surprised upon hearing another voice. Just when he thought he would reincarnate again, he was baffled as he saw two legs a feet away from his eyes.
“Don’t be startled. My name is Alkr. I’m an overseer. Drink this if you still want to join the Alliance Selection.”
Clay felt a hand supported and slightly lifted his upper body and at the same time, a glass tube touched his lips as an unknown liquid flowed into his throat. He wanted to resist but when the smell reached his nose, he felt like he could control his mana again.
*Gulp!
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
Clay felt a warm wave of energy scattered throughout his body and slowly, he felt his body belonged to him again.
“You’ll be fine in an hour.” The overseer had a mellow tone.
As soon as Clay regained control of his body, he immediately activated his Godly Eyes and looked towards the area where he saw the fight earlier however, all he can see is empty silent hall.
“Ahh..” Clay silently exclaimed as his jaw slightly dropped.
He was speechless as he looked around in disbelief.
“Something wrong?” The overseer quizzically inquired.
Clay ignored the overseer as he slowly turned his head then looked at the same corner again. Just now he was certain he won’t make it out alive but looking at the empty corner, everything felt unreal. And what puzzles him more is that this overseer seemed unaware of what just transpired. It felt like waiting for a bus on shed and a barrel of bomb exploded on the other side of the road yet the person who just arrived walked towards him like nothing happened.
At the same time, Alkr was confused with Clay’s actions. Normally, he would hear a simple thank you then bombarded with questions but the newly arrived participant is staring at an empty space like a mental patient.
“You alright?”
Seeing that the overseer is clueless as to what just transpired, Clay is beginning to wonder if he had seen an illusion but judging from the trails of fluids that came out from his mouth, he is certain that was no hallucination. Besides, he could see the same residues of energy from a nearby receiving teleportation platform from which he materialized earlier.
“Ah… I… I th… I’m fine. Thank you. I thought I was a goner.” Clay stuttered. He did not know what to do next. Usually, he can easily compose and calm himself but today seemed an exemption. If possible, he wanted to seclude and properly recover his strength.
Alkr observed Clay’s weird actions. “I know it’s too late to say this but properly obtain a token next time. Anyway, what’s important is you are here now and you should be thinking about your future. Get up and follow me. I’ll show you the way for the next test.”
At the same time, Clay closed and opened his palm wondering if he is under an illusion and when he moved his legs, he felt weak and struggled to get up.
“I have a few medicines on me but I’m not the kind of person to give anything free.” The overseer stopped this tracks when Clay lost his balance.
“This senior need not to be concerned. I think I can manage.” Clay respectfully responded and just realized he should not make things more awkward. He then sent his mana into his spatial ring and took out a bottle then after pinching his nose, he drank the pungent greenish substance contained in the bottle.
Mrgggghh!
Clay cleared his throat.
Meanwhile, Alkr looked at Clay with disgust.
“You’re a human, right? Not a scavenger.” He just smelled the medicine Clay took out and it felt like someone inserted his hand into his mouth and grab his intestines.
“It’s not as bad as you think.”Clay stored back the empty bottle and having confirmed that the two god-like figures have left, he looked at the overseer again. The last thing he wanted to do is converse with someone but assessing his situation, he may not have another chance to ask questions.
For now, it is probably better he pretends he had not witnessed anything and investigate later. His mind is still muffled but he should be able to talk normally.
“When you said test, is it another crazy assessment?”
“Well, it’s more like a ceremony. I don’t know which corner of the galaxy you hailed from but the fact you’ve used a specialized Portal to reach this place, then it means you have earn the right to become a Soldier for the Empire. But if you want to further gain status, you can obtain points during the ceremony and use it to join a sect of your own choosing.
Clay attentively listened.
“Does this senior have any recommendations?”
“Well, given your age, being a normal soldier is not a bad thing.” Alkr lightly smiled and began walking. “Let’s go.”
Seeing the overseer is heading towards the exit, Clay paused and looked around one more time using his Godly Eyes. He wanted to reassure himself that what he saw earlier was not an illusion. If that was an advance holographic imaging, he should be able to find the device that played it but looking around at every corner of the hall, he cannot find any relevant Formation that triggered it.
“I’m beginning to think the teleportation damaged your head.”
Clay snapped out then turned around and walked with haste and catch up with the overseer. In an attempt to divert the overseer’s attention, he asked another question.
“Assuming I join the ceremony and amass points and surprise everyone, will that be a guaranteed admission towards any sect?”
“Not that I’m looking down on your abilities but their standards are quite high.”
“You mean they don’t accept humans?”
The overseer forced a smile and glanced at Clay.
“I prefer saying that everyone wants to invest on someone promising. And speaking of investment, I’d like to invite you to our little organization. Our initiation starts with a fifteen year position similar to mine, and the next twenty to fifty years you can join expeditions and if you do a good job, you can become an Ascendant Magi.”
“And if I decline?”
“Then it’s your loss and we move on.”
As soon as the overseer finished his sentence, the two of them had already stepped outside and what greeted Clay is five hundred meter space-craft that is about to lift off.
“That’s your ride.” The overseer nonchalantly spoke.
Clay was not surprised as he had seen better during his past life. The towering buildings from afar is certainly captivating but he had no time to be impressed on how well designed this military satellite he had been teleported and instead, he felt a familiar déjà vu.
Clay understood this is the part where he needed to say goodbye however, he paused and looked at Alkr.
“Within your organization, have you ever heard of any prominent female cultivator by the name of Kolas?”
“I don’t have the best memory but I am confident there is no one by that name within the Upper Ranks but anyone below, you may want to join us and search for her yourself. ”
Clay was disappointed with the answer. He deliberately described Kolas as a woman to test this overseer in the event he said yes but it looks like he is wrong again about this universe having an active consciousness.
“Why so friendly?” Clay spontaneously asked.
“You should join us and find out.” The overseer softly laughed then continued, “My benefactor is a human. Plus I get few perks upon successful referral.”
Clay thought he will be forced to enlist into this unknown group but seeing that Alkr has not made any threats, his doubts faded.
The offer sounds sure and promising but it might take too much of his time and worst, he might not be able to cut ties when the time comes. Besides, as long as the ceremony does not involve 9TH Circle Mages, then he should be able face them head on.
“I thank this friend for his time but unfortunately I must decline. If there is a next time, I will return the favor.” Clay smiled back and when he turned around and starts heading towards the ship, Alkr sent a telepathic message.
“About the ceremony, they will make it sound enticing but you will be facing death-row inmates who having nothing to lose. Don’t be fooled.”
