Two Years Later, Greynam- Land of Terrestrial Elves

Book of Druids, Fall of Forefathers, Passage 2 Verse 7

Rakath trembled in fear and kneeled before the angel, “It was the doing of the devil. As we have no knowledge beyond Havath, he fooled us into opening the doors of Hikath. May the all knowing God have mercy on us.”

And the angel of the Lord spread his wings and said to the earthly beings “What say you, Evarath, wife of Rakath.”

Tears dropped on Evarath’s eyes as she knew it was her who allowed the devil to possess mind but how can she have the courage to admit her sin of opening the forbidden door. Now that the holy garden is tainted with corruption, she knew they will be expelled from paradise.

“May the most benevolent God have mercy on us. It was the devil who tricked us.” Evarath wailed with her forehead on the ground.

“Fools!” The angel of the Lord shouted in anger. It pains him to see the most beloved son and daughter punished by the Lord but the Lord had already decreed.

“As God commanded, you shall be banished from paradise and roam Hikath. As you have allowed the devil to enter your hearts, you shall suffer the devil’s presence in all eternity.”

The skies roared in thunder as they appeased the wrath of God but the doors of heaven does not open to the sinners.

The clouds cried incessantly but God does not tolerate a child who knew what sin is and still choose to sin.

*Achoo!

Clay’s thought were interrupted when he heard someone sneeze. He is currently reading a translated ancient Druidic bible while waiting for an interview.

The Elves call it interview but to him, it is elaborated version of an assessment to become a sparring partner of one of the most prestigious schools in the west. But Clay is not really after the job but another position above it and judging from everyone’s strength, he believes he is the only person after this position.

There are around thirty four applicants for the sparring partner positions and among the crowd, three of them are humans and the rest are all Elves with varying eye colors. They are all patiently waiting on the audience section of a mini-football-field-looking training grounds of Litheka Branch of Lunares Magi School.

With a warm smile, Clay looked around in an attempt to show his amiability.

“Aren’t you too old to be reaching children’s book?”

Clay was surprised as the person who spoke is the person sitting on the next row in front of him.

“I use to distract …” Clay paused then decided to make joke instead. “I heard we will be training with little kids and I think reading them some bed time stories will later help.”

(Ha ha ha ha)

A few applicants around Clay could not help but laugh.

“Quite the comedian, aren’t you. Believe it not, the kids we’re about to face all hate bed time stories.”

Clay did not respond as he observed the broad shoulders of the old Elf before him. Unlike him, this old Elf is a combat mage that even without using his Godly Eyes, he can tell this old man specializes in melee and body reinforcement techniques.

“Where you from?”

Clay wanted to speak and end the small talk but then he was asked another question.

Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings.

If there is one thing he learned of his two-year journey to the west, majority of people including non-cultivators all have prejudistic tendencies towards any mages from the far east especially humans.

“North East, Nine Province.”

“Mhe He he he. You know I’ve dealt with enough humans to know if they are from the Nine Province.”

Clay did not know how to engage with the conversation further. This world has its own dark history but he is not the type to care. If not because of the need to lie low and play by the rules of Elven society, he would have had forcefully kidnapped a few Elves and made them do his bidding.

Clay looked at the opposite side and noticed a group of students have already entered the training grounds indicating the start of the assessment.

While trying to come up with a lousy excuse not to converse any further, the old man spoke again.

“What would you do if you’re the first one to be called?”

“And what makes you think I will be the first to be called?” Clay spontaneously replied.

“Because, you have a funny accent.” The old man turned towards Clay then said, “And those kids don’t like bed time stories especially from some who can’t fake his primogenitor’s funny accent, Mr. Eastern Mage.”

As soon as the old man finished his sentence, a voice infused with mana reverberated towards their area signifying the start of the assessment.

“Number 24! Step forward and face your challenger.”

Clay forced a smile when he heard the number on the rounded plate handed to him earlier.

“Allow me to remind you the rules of the assessment. Give us a satisfactory performance without giving your opponent a fatal injury. And lastly, you die if our students die.”

Clay got to his feet and slowly walked towards the platform on the arena. Now that he thinks about it, it reminds him around seventeen years ago back at Erindal when he had to fight a Warrior. The only difference this time is he had to face an inexperience mage who probably has yet to see blood.

Clay activated his Godly eyes and looked around the scattered audiences to confirm the presence of a 2ND Circle Mage which he was after and when he got to the platform, he stood motionless until the referee gave out a go signal.

(You may begin!)

“My name is Mrosfe. I was advised that this senior is from the far east. It will be an honor to learn …”

*Swish!

BOOM!

When Clay saw the smirk on his opponent’s face, he did not hesitate and flicked his fingers outward and released a simplified Level 3 Sonic Wave and imbued it with a sliver of his Spirit Essence which easily blasted the muscular student off the platform as the boy rolled towards the wall.

Arggghh!

Mrosfe still managed to stand up but lost consciousness shortly thereafter.

Thud!

The audience gasped in silence. Everyone knew how improper it is to launch an attack on the first few seconds during a friendly duel but they all could not make a comment. They just witnessed the rumored viciousness and lightning casting speed of a far eastern mage and what is more terrifying it the person who conjured the spell did not even use an external assistance which means only one thing- a 2ND Circle Mage.

With the dwindling mana in the environment, there are only a handful of 2ND Circle Mage in the entire region and witnessing a wild one is quite a rare occasion.

“I am called Clay. I’m indeed an eastern mage. Your Elven laws mandates wandering mages like me to at least register as a Defense Reservist. I came here for a registration token and I really don’t have interest in your little games but if someone wants to spend a night at the infirmary, please step forward and I am challenging all of you at once.” This time, it was Clay’s turn to infuse his voice with mana petrifying the audience even more but after a few seconds of awkward silence, one of the audiences from the side stood up and threw a thin transparent card towards Clay.

Swish!

Clay caught the thin card with his fingers.

“That’s a token for a Defense Reservist. Is there anything else this friend is in need of?”

“I’m deeply sorry for having intruded your school. I don’t have much on me so please accept this as a token of my apology.”

Clay retrieved a rectangular wooden jade box from his spatial ring and threw it towards the fellow 2ND Circle Mage who just gave him the token then turned around and walked towards the exit.

As Clay reached the exit, he can’t help but gave a soft laugh. It has been two years since he left Ludonia and travelled to the Elven Lands.

Initially, he wanted to travel to Nine Province and research more on Beast Essence Manifestation, but sadly, he encountered a group of mages who mistook him an enemy. It was futile convincing them he accidentally found their lair and since they were incessant on dying, he decided to grant their wishes.

He did not plan on looting their wealth but since everyone’s dead and since taking their belongings does not really wash away his crimes, he might as well become their inheritor.

Clay does not know how far ahead can investigations reveal his identity so to avoid troubles, he decided to move further to the west.

West and Northwest of Ludonia are multiple human countries which should have been perfect but to cover his tracks, he travelled even further west to the land of the Elves.

Clay is not new to sudden exposure to new cultures and to not attract the real powerhouses, he just needed to play by the Elven rules a little. As for why he showed his ability, it is to show that he is not to be taken lightly and warn anyone who might have some retarded ideas during his stay in the country.
