Predator or prey? (Pt2)

Predator or prey? (Pt2)

Well he would've, if he hadn't thought of a backup plan. Considering his knowledge of hyper class festers, he had anticipated that he would have to deal with a stronger form of his opponent. However, no matter how many new forms it got, it was still a treasure Fester. He quickly grabbed one of the capsules he had sneakily snatched away from his pocket, then showed it to the Fester. Mesmerized by treasure, it loosened its grip a bit. Now being able to breathe a bit, Oliver threw the capsule at its face, causing it to shatter and release the contents inside. An entire motorcycle popped out from the capsule which came crashing into the Fester. The resulting explosion flung both of them backwards, which also started a fire.

As the fire started to spread, Oliver was laying on the ground. He was bleeding heavily, and was pretty sure that he broke some of his ribs. The thought made him laug- nope it was just blood trying to escape from his mouth.

"Fuck this hurts.... Why did I even do this? I should've just waited for help. Instead I played the hero... In the end everything is just my fault huh? Trying to be egotistical? What the hell does that even mean?! What was I thinking... I can't do anything" Oliver thought as he lay on the ground.

Then he realised a bitter truth.

“In the end everyone was right… I really am weak… but why? Why does everyone get to be strong?! Why is it always me who gets the short end of the stick! I'm just as good aren't I?! Aren't I?! I work just as hard as them… No, I work even harder!” Oliver thought to himself, the pain causing him to think irrationally

As he tried his best to crawl to safety, Oliver began to remember all the things people have said about him.

“Huh? I should just be given the F tier? That's easy for you to say, right? Cause you all just get handed everything on a silver platter! You've never understood what it means to be weak! So why…” Oliver thought to himself, gritting his teeth hard.

“why shouldn't I get a chance too?!”

As he thought that, a capsule rolled itself in front of Oliver. It was the same capsule from before that gave him that stinging sensation. It seemed that it had been blasted off the fester during that explosion, and rolled it's way over to him by chance. But was it really chance?

"That's right you can't do anything... You're worthless... Well with how you are now... But I can make you stronger. Stronger than Olivia... Stronger than anybody. I'm your salvation oh lost bird" a voice came from the capsule.

Oliver actually wasn't sure if it came from the capsule, or it was just his imagination. However, he didn't really care at that moment. If what this thing said was true, he could actually do something. He snatched away the capsule, which burned his hand. His screams of agony alerted the Fester who had just recovered from the explosion.

"No... That one isn't for use! That man... He said that it was made by the devil itself..." the Fester said, sounding genuinely scared.

Oliver gritted his teeth and smiled through his pain.

"Devil? I don't think even the devil would make something this evil..." Oliver said, before crushing the capsule.

Once broken, a device appeared in Oliver's hand. He didn't know what it was, but judging by straps on each side, Oliver surmised it was a belt? Whatever it was, it had to go on his waist. He slowly pushed himself up, which hurt even more than holding that infernal capsule. Oliver placed the device on his waist, which automatically wrapped itself onto him. It was as if a parasite latching onto its host.

"Ew gross..." Oliver said, grimacing.

As it looked at Oliver, the Fester began to tremble. The way he stood, the smile on his face and the complete apathy- no insanity! It was at that moment that Fester understood why humans were so afraid of them. It was like seeing death itself in flesh form.

Examining the device, Oliver was creeped out by it's design. It seemed to be a rectangular device that had three spikes of descending sizes resembling feathers or leaves protruding out of the right hand side. The middle of the device resembled the closed mouth of some kind of demonic beast, though he couldn't tell what exactly the creature was supposed to be. Roaming his fingers to the left side of the belt, he found a trigger gimmick hidden underneath some sharp and blocky protrusion. Conveniently, there was a small red arrow design on the protrusion, pointing towards the trigger. He tried pulling it, but was met with a loud blare.

[INSUFFICIENT DESCENT ENERGY. PLEASE RECHARGE]

"Not enough? How am I supposed to recharge this thing?" Oliver thought to himself.

He stood completely still, as he began thinking about ways to charge the device. His lack of fear towards death scared the Fester. No, it wasn't a lack of fear. It was confidence. Confidence knowing that he could easily kill The Fester. This enraged the Fester. It lunged forward madly, its pride wouldn't let a mere human look down on it. It was the predator, he was the prey!

"Gotcha" Oliver said, smiling a bit.

The Fester's callousness, caused by its enraged state, led to an opening for Oliver to counterattack. He hit the Fester with another burst attack from his attachment unit, causing a chunk of its flesh to be sliced off. The glow coming from his attachment unit faded, telling Oliver that the descent energy inside had already been depleted.

"Figures… it's only a C rank attachment unit after all" Oliver said, tossing it aside.

In its place though, Oliver picked up the chuck of the Fester's flesh.

"Did you know? Most living creatures have at least some descent energy, with normal humans having less than 10%, and descent energy users having 45% on the low end. The creatures with the most amount of descent energy… are Festers, as their flesh and blood are made out of it. In other words they're batteries for descent energy. But I guess that was a dumb question to ask huh? Since you're one of them" Oliver said.

His ramblings annoyed, but also terrified the Fester. Why on earth would he relay that information? What use would the Fester have knowing that?

"Oh come on, don't be so daft. I'm going to eat you, well this chunk of flesh I mean" Oliver said, smiling creepily.

Those words froze the Fester in place. In its entire existence, it had never been threatened to be eaten. It was as if the tables had turned on it. For the first time in its life, it was the prey.

Oliver looked at the chunk of meat, making a disgusted looking face. It smelled horrible, like rotten flesh that was vomited out. However, if he wanted to exterminate this pest, he had to eat it. He forced the meat down his throat, a horrible sensation filling his mouth. It was as if he was eating mucus from a snail that was set on fire. And the taste… oh the taste. It was like hell. If you could describe it, the taste would be as if you ate a rag used to wipe up excrement, which beforehand had also been used to choke someone. Keeping it down was harder than anything he had ever done. Even harder than the time he had to AdLib a play in middle school. Everytime he tried to swallow, his body refused. It screamed at him not to swallow. That if he swallowed, ruin would come to him. However, he was far too stubborn to listen. With one gulp, he ate the flesh.

[SUFFICIENT DESCENT ENERGY Has Been Reached. PLEASE PULL TRIGGER TO ACTIVATE TRANSFORMATION]

Oliver smiled widely, it almost looked like a smirk. He took off his coat, before ruffling his hair and tilting back his head slightl
