Mutilation (PT 1)

Mutilation (PT 1)

It had been a few days since the image of Oliver fighting a Fester were leaked online. He didn't know how exactly the picture was taken, but either way, he was on thin ice. He stopped his nightly escapades and even hid away his transformation device so he wouldn't be tempted to go out. He went as far as to act as if he had never even touched that thing. Normally, he wouldn't be so paranoid. No sane person would actually go out of their way to try and find some mysterious vigilante.

However he wasn't dealing with a sane person.

"Oliver help me find that crow bastard!" Olivia said, barging into his room.

The suddenness of her entrance caused jerk back in his seat, causing his table to hit the wall and the shelf above him to drop heavy books down on his face. Fortunately he didn't fall unconscious, however he began to bleed from his nose.

"No time for bleeding! Come, help me! I know where that guy is!" Olivia said, sounding desperate.

"..."

"What the hell is wrong with you?!!" Oliver shouted, still bleeding.

Olivia was startled by this, as Oliver had never shouted at her before. She stood still, before pouting. Tears began forming in her eyes, but before she could cry he interrupted her.

"You don't get to cry! I'm bleeding!" Oliver said.

She continued to stand still, making Oliver even more frustrated.

"Get me some tissues!" Oliver said, starting to panic due to his sudden lightheadedness.

Olivia quickly grabbed some tissues, stuffing it inside Oliver's nose. The forcefulness of the action hurt a lot, but at least the bleeding stopped. After calming down a bit, Oliver asked why she barged into his room.

"Because I need help finding this crow guy! I think I know where he is... But nobody seems to want to help me! You're the only person I have right now..." Olivia said, tracing circles on his bed sheets.

Oliver held his nose for a moment as he began analysing the situation.

"Olivia wants me, to help hunt down... Myself... Even if I did help her, it'll lead to nothing since I'm the culprit she's looking for! Although..." Oliver thought.

A mischievous smile creeped up Oliver's face as he came up with a devilish plan. He was going to make Olivia lose interest in the case, by showing her how futile it is. He felt a bit bad for doing it, but knowing Olivia, she'd eventually find out on her own. At least this way, he could slow down that process. Oliver put on a smile then turned to his dear sister.

"Why of course. I'll help you out" Oliver said using his kind voice.

Olivia's eyes lit up as she stood up.

"Really?!" She asked, sounding excited.

Oliver nodded, standing up himself. He was still a bit wobbly from the blood loss, but with the help of Olivia, he managed to make it to the living room.

"Okay okay I think I can do this on my own now" Oliver said, rebalancing himself.

"Geez you look like a penguin" Olivia said, laughing a bit.

"That's not funny!" Oliver said, unamused.

She stuck her tongue out before running out of the apartment. He was about to chase after her, but then he noticed his reflection in the mirror. Looking at his face, he noticed that his nose had completely healed, and it wasn't healed like how noses normally heal when broken. His nose was exactly the same as it was before breaking. He was weirded out by this, when a terrifying thought popped into a his brain.

"It couldn't be because of... No, that's crazy..." Oliver thought to himself, laughing out of fear.

Feeling a bit uneasy, Oliver ran back into his room to get his transformation device. He looked at it, feeling a strange comfort while holding it. He decided to bring it along, since it was probably going to bring itself along if he didn't take it with him anyways. Pocketing it, Oliver left the apartment as fast as he could to catch up to Olivia.

After 15 minutes of searching, he found her standing outside a convenience store. She looked a little annoyed, crossing her arms and glaring at him.

"Sorry had to use the bathroom" Oliver said, rubbing the back of his head.

"Well whatever... Now then! Let's begin our hunt!" Olivia said, pointing Northside.

"Wait, why north?" Oliver asked.

"Good question my idiot brother!" Olivia retorted.

"Hey..."

"We're going north because that's where my investigations have brought me! I've spent the past week investigating all the spots he could have gone after the battle, and with the help of that picture, I've determined that the north is where he went! Smart aren't I?" She said proudly.

"Well north was where the fight took place.... So I guess she's right about that. It's actually scary what she can do with free time..." Oliver thought to himself.

Thinking quickly, Oliver tried to show her a flow in her logic.

“Even if that's true, that crow guy wouldn't just stay there for 3 days. He must've gone elsewhere” Oliver commented.

Olivia proudly held her hips as she stuck her chin up slightly.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“Oh sweet dumb little brother. We're not going there to find him… but to hunt down his signature!” Olivia said.

Oliver was confused and slightly hurt by her comment. Seeing the confusion on Oliver's face, Olivia sighed.

“You really are dumb…” Olivia retorted.

“Just explain damnit!” Oliver shouted, feeling embarrassed.

It was then when Olivia pulled out a small rectangular device.

“This thing is called a descent energy tracker. It's used to find the descent energy signature of Festers who've ran away from a fight. You see whenever Festers fight, they naturally leak out their descent energy. It's kinda like when you're touching garlic, the smell gets transferred onto your hand” Olivia explained.

Oliver nodded, taking notes down. As he began writing, he stopped for a moment, realising what she meant.

“B- but… that guy. You said he wasn't a Fester right? He wouldn't leak descent energy… right?” Oliver said, getting scared.

Olivia began laughing sinisterly, like one of those supervillains in comic books.

“Oh on the contrary… you see, I've actually been going to sites where this crow guy has been, and there's always the same descent energy signature there.” Olivia explained.

Oliver was at a lost by Olivia's dedication.

“Wait, couldn't you have just tracked him using the signatures from those sites though?” Oliver asked.

“I tried too… but his signatures were always faint since I took too long finding it. But it only been three days since the fight! This is our only chance!” Olivia says excitedly

Oliver tried to shoot down her argument again, however Olivia was starting to get suspicious of Oliver.

“Why are you so against my ideas? Don't tell me you're…” Olivia said, practically shoving her face into his.

Oliver quick tried to change the topic by asking her if investigating was the only thing she did last week.

"Yup!" She said, enthusiastically.

"So you're saying that you skipped classes, skipped work, and skipped training to investigate?" Oliver asked, now the one crossing his arms.

Olivia fidgeted with her fingers as she began turning her gaze away from Oliver.

"W- well it's not like that... And besides, even if I did, school isn't even mandatory as a cadet! We only have to come when we're free, and technically I wasn't free at that time..." Olivia responded.

Oliver glared Olivia down, disappointed in his so called "older sister". Olivia tried to look for a wait of her situation, but it was clear she had to face some consequences.

"Alright I did skip classes and work! But that's only because nobody seems to care about this! A reckless bastard who has the power to topple down cities is running around on the loose. The longer he's not pun in check, the more civilians will get hurt. And as an Investigator, I can't let that slide" Olivia said, clenching her fist tightly.

Oliver paused for a moment. He knew that Olivia was doing this for a good cause, of course he did, however it was clear that this was taking a toll on her. Her hair was a mess, her eyes had deep bags under them, she was fidgeting a lot and generally, she looked like shit. This wasn't a surprise to Oliver, she had always been someone who took responsibility for things, even though she didn't have to. He had always respected that... However she always took it too far.

Knowing how far she'd go to do the right thing, Oliver knew he couldn't let her continue on with this.

"Olivia... You should stop with this case" Oliver advised her.

Hearing this froze Olivia's heart a bit. She leaned back against the wall then began laughing a bit.

"Why? You think I'm not good enough for this huh? You think I need saving? You're one to talk..." she said, sounding spiteful.

"Listen I'm advising you this as your brother. I know how far you'll go to help people, which is super good, but I know you'll also hurt yourself if it means that goal is achieved!" Oliver said.

"Well I don't care if I get hurt! Unlike you, I'm not someone who shirks away and hides in a cave of selfish self-degradation when met with the slightest bit of inconvenience!" Olivia shouted

Oliver was taken aback by her words. He was about to prove her point, but instead he fought back.

"So you think you're that great huh? You think that everyone else should just let you hurt yourself? Who do you think you are? If I'm selfish then.... You're even more selfish to think that other people won't care if you get hurt!" Oliver shouted back.

Olivia was surprised by his sudden backbone, however she wasn't going to admit defeat. She pushed him away and began heading north by herself.

"I don't care what you think! I'm going! I'm going to go find that crow bastard!" Olivia said storming off.

Oliver turned around to try and chase after her, but he sensed a dangerous presence coming out from the alleyway.

"Olivia!"

From the darkness, a clown masked man popped out with a knife. Olivia instinctively blocked the attack, using her attachment unit case as a shield. Seeing the man, caused her to smirk.

"I found you ya bastard!" She said before kicking him in the stomach.

The man was thrown back into the alley, causing a loud crashing sound to be heard. Olivia was about to just call the police, but the man began producing an odd noise. Suddenly needles began shooting out of the man's body. Olivia released her attachment unit, using it to deflect any needles headed her way.

"So he's a Fester huh? Guess I got the wrong guy..." Olivia thought to herself.

Olivia took out her badge then showed it around to everyone.

"This place is now an investigation scene. Everyone evacuate now!" She said.

Everyone began fleeing, all except Oliver.

"Tch... Why are you still here" Olivia said, rolling her eyes.

"I'm still an investigator... I can't let a Fester run a bout" Oliver said, with a smirk.

Olivia scoffed, secretly smiling underneath. She tossed her spare attachment unit at Oliver as he didn't have his own.

"Fine, but I'm still mad at you" Olivia said.

"Yeah we'll deal with that later.... This guy is more important" Oliver said, watching the Fester emerge from the darkness.

It seemed to be a porcupine Fester due to the needles and shape of it's body. It definitely wasn't intelligent enough to speak, but due to the force of the needles from earlier, they concluded it was an advanced class Fester.

"This should be easy right? I'm a C tier and you're an A tier Investigator. How long do you think it's going to take?" Oliver asked, releasing his attachment unit as he spoke.

Olivia paused for a moment before putting up two fingers. Oliver chuckled before turning to the Fester.

"Two minutes?"

"No, two seconds"

The two charged at the Fester from both sides, both ready to hit it with all they got. Just before their weapons could make contact with the Fester, they heard a voice coming from the Fester's chest.

"H- help.... Me..."

This caused both of them to abruptly stop their attacks. Seeing the opportunity, the Fester curled into itself before releasing a barrage of needles. The two were sent flying back due to the force, leaving them both in varying conditions. Since Olivia was wearing her uniform, it blocked out most of the damage, however Oliver wasn't as lucky. His body was littered with holes, however, it didn't take long for them to close up.

"Just like back at home... The hell is happening to me?" Oliver thought to himself.

Since Olivia was in a better condition, she rushed down the Fester like before, but this time she wasn't going to stop. She sliced through the Fester, causing it to squirm in pain. As a last ditch resort, it tried to use it's explosion attack once again, however Oliver stopped it by kicking it in the face.

"Woah nice kick" Olivia said, surprised at how effective it was.

"Y- yeah..." Oliver responded, surprised by his strength.

Olivia finished the Fester off by beheading it, its head rolling on the ground rather unceremoniously. The two looked at the corpse, then at each other.

"Not it" Olivia said, touching her nose

"Not i- oh come on" Oliver said, frustrated.

Oliver began disposing of the corpse, following the Fester disposable steps to a tea. First, cut off any body parts still left intact. Second, dig for the Fester's "Ulteir". Third, collect any flesh that hasn't yet been converted to descent energy. As Oliver was proceeding with the second step, he uncovered something absolutely horrific. Underneath all the Fester flesh, was a human corpse. Fleshy muscles stuck on the body as if they were parasites worming their way into the corpse. They stood frozen in fear. In their fear, they didn't even realise the figure walking up from behind them. It placed its hands on their shoulders, peeking into the horrible sight.
