You're the worst!

You're the worst!

After learning about the situation from Oliver, Sieg started to feel bad for the poor kid. He was clearly upset, but the way he was carrying himself was as if he was purposely trying to make himself a fool, so nobody would go out of their way to help him.

"Dang I'm so disappointed in myself! But it's fine! I'm sure it's fine... even if I am useless..." Oliver said, laughing to himself. No, it was more like he was laughing AT himself.

"W- well I'm sure you're not useless. The C tier is still a fun tier to be in! Unlike the E and D ranks, you're still able to go on missions! Well that's if you become an Investigator… but Isn't that exciting?!" Sieg said, trying to cheer him up.

Hearing the word mission caused Oliver's mood to change. Not in a good way though, which Sieg picked up on.

"So he's not interested in fighting Festers. Then why exactly did he join F.A.T.E? Going by his looks, he's probably not interested in the welfare division... maybe the research division... but I can't pinpoint any specific division he wants to join. It's as if..." a curious thought popped into his head.

Sieg looked into Oliver's eyes, then asked a question.

"Did you join F.A.T.E just so you'd look cool?" Sieg asked, trying to satisfy his curiosity.

"Huh? Look cool? N- no! Not that..." Oliver answered.

Sieg's question was answered, but now he was even more confused.

"So he didn't join to kill Festers... and he didn't join because he'd look cool... so what's his deal?" Sieg thought to himself.

Oliver looked at Sieg, and could already tell what he was thinking.

"You're wondering why I joined F.A.T.E, aren't you?" Oliver asked.

"... how'd you know?" Sieg responded, surprised that Oliver could read him so well.

"Um... let's just call it intuition" Oliver said, laughing awkwardly.

Sieg crossed his arms then leaned back into his seat.

"Yes... I want to know why you wanna join this godforsaken organization... so spill the beans newbie" Sieg said.

"Well... I wanna protect people mostly..." Oliver responded, fidgeting with his fingers.

His answer surprised Sieg once again, but in a pleasant way this time. Sieg hunched forward, holding the sides of his chair as support as he smiled.

"What a noble dream. Aren't you a hero?" Seig said semi sarcastically.

"Yeah I guess..." Oliver said, looking at the ground.

Feeling as if Oliver's change in mood is his fault, Sieg quickly apologized.

"O- oh sorry, I didn't mean to make fun of you or anything! It truly is a noble dream... but is that really the reason you want to become an investigator?" Sieg asked.

Oliver continued to stare at the ground, lost in thought. What was the reason he wanted to become a F.A.T.E investigator? Sure he said he wanted to protect people, but that was mostly an excuse he used whenever someone asked. So does he truly want to protect people? Or was he just spouting gibberish so he'd look good in front of others? Those were questions he asked himself.

The withdrawn look plastered on Oliver's face told Sieg all he had to know. He wasn't quite sure before, but Sieg was certain that he knew Oliver's true goal.

"You don't really have a reason for joining F.A.T.E, do you?" Sieg asked.

Hearing those few words were the equivalent to realising your whole life up until now, was an illusion. In the half hour these two had met each other, Sieg had completely figured Oliver out, something even Oliver couldn't do. No it's not that he couldn't figure it out, it's that he didn't want to admit that he had been living his life with no direction.

"Ah this is the worst... I really hate this feeling. The feeling of being caught. Although.. I've been lying to everyone, even myself... so I guess it's only natural that I've been exposed... maybe I can become a shut-in and leech off, Aunt Susan..." An evil thought popped into Oliver's mind.

He fidgeted with fingers as he waited for an opportunity to run away. Even though it was cowardly, at least he wouldn't have to live with the embarrassment of being caught as a fraud. They sat in awkward silence, up until Sieg slowly began to look away from Oliver. That was his chance. He lifted himself up from the chair, then turned his body so he could make a run for it.

"I'm sorry but I need to g-" but before he could finish his sentence, Sieg cut him off.

"There's nothing wrong with not having a reason to do things ya know?" Sieg said, putting his hand on Oliver's shoulder.

Realising he'd been caught, Oliver decided to sit back down; besides, it wouldn't hurt to hear him out right?

"What do.... you mean?" Oliver asked.

Sieg chuckled before leaning back into his seat.

"Life is a really fickle thing. Not everything must have a specific reason for it to happen. It just does. Maybe our conversation has a purpose, maybe it doesn't. There's really no way to know" Sieg explained.

Oliver paused for a moment, before looking up at him with a confused expression.

“What is that supposed to mean?” Oliver asked.

Sieg's face quickly started to turn red, realising the speech he so proudly explained wasn't understood.

“u- um it's kinda like… uh…” Sieg stammered.

Thinking back to his words, he himself didn't actually understand what he was trying to say. He just said whatever felt right for the situation. Oliver gave a disappointed expression to Sieg, questioning his credibility.

“Well just forget about what you heard! Just… it will eventually come to you. Your reason to continue fighting. I'm sure of it," Sieg said, sighing.

Oliver was still confused by his words, however, knowing someone like sieg believed in him, was comforting.

"Do... you think I'll really find my reason to live? Do you believe that I'll be able to be someone great?" Oliver asked, he bowed his head.

Sieg smiled before standing up.

"That's up for you to decide. Not me.... but there's something interesting about you Oliver Rand... please show me the man you'll become. Someone who you're proud of being" Sieg said walking away.

"Hey wait!" Oliver shouted, reaching his hand out.

Sieg stopped to turn his head to face Oliver.

"Thank you! I still don't know who I want to be… but I'll find out! " Oliver said.

The suddenness, coupled with that way he said it, caused Sieg to laugh. This surprised Oliver, making him feel as if he had done something wrong.

"Did I say something wrong?" Oliver said, feeling embarrassed.

"No! No! You did nothing wrong, it's just my sense of humour is broken" Sieg said, reassuring Oliver.

"O- oh... sorry then..." Oliver responded, feeling even more embarrassed.

Sieg finished laughing before patting him on the back.

"No problem kid. And like I said, I want you to show me what kind of man you'll be okay? I'll be really mad if you stay the same~" Sieg said, smirking.

Oliver confidently shook his head, to the pleasant surprise of Sieg.

"I won't... I promise it. I'll become a better person, I don't want to continue living like this anymore..." Oliver said, looking at his hand.

Sieg smiled before laughing.

"You sounded so cringe, dude" Sieg said.

"Hey aren't you supposed to be the adult here!" Oliver said, his face completely red from embarrassment.

Sieg just continued to laugh as Oliver became more and more embarrassed.

"You.... you're the worst!" Oliver said.

"No, you're the worst!" A familiar voice said.

Oliver turned to the direction the voice came from, and was met with a kick to the face. The force caused him to fall to the ground and hit his head.

"Ow! What the hell?!" Oliver shouted, pissed off.

"That's what you get dummy!" Olivia said, looking very upset.

Oliver narrowed his eyes before standing up.

"What the hell was that for?!" Oliver shouted.

"That's what you get for running away so suddenly! I was worried sick, you bastard!" Olivia responded.

"W- well that's true... b- but that doesn't give you the right to drop kick me!" Oliver retorted back.

"Y- yeah but... but..." Olivia said, realising her mistake.

Oliver sighed as he facepalmed.

"You really are the worst...." Oliver said, his eyebrows furrowing.

His angry expression soon turned into a happy one, realising that she worried that much about him.

"Hey why are you smiling?" Olivia said, smirking.

"N- nothing... I'm not smiling, shut up..." Oliver said, turning his face away from her.

Olivia continued to provoke Oliver, causing them to start bickering. Sieg watched them from a distance, smiling softly.

"I remember when they were like this.... what did I do wrong...?" Sieg thought to himself, his mood dropping.

Oliver and Olivia's bickering had reached its climax when Olivia began to insult Oliver's rank while Oliver began to insult Olivia's strange f

ixation with Ren.

"You..." Oliver and Olivia said in tandem.

"Are the worst!"
