My reason (PT 2)

My reason (PT 2)

He swiped away at his back row, leaving only his pawns at the front.

"I sacrifice my queen, bishops, rooks and knight so I can enter a revolt" Pierro said, rather ominously.

Oliver was forced into a check, though something was different. All of his pawns were still there, and it seemed like more were appearing in the back row. All of they simultaneously came to life, all ready to kill.

"Since when was chess Yu-Gi-Oh..." Oliver said, getting ready to fight.

Oliver wasn't too scared as they were only pawns. And paens could only move one tile at a time. At least, normally they would. One of the pawns dashed towards Oliver, stopping just in front of him.

"You gotta be kidding me-"

The pawn grabbed Oliver, throwing him across the board. Once Oliver hit the ground he slid across it rather unceremoniously. And if the situation couldn't get any worse, the pawns began surrounding him. They all began to jump him, attacking him from all sides. Soon they began to dogpile him, crushing him with their weight. Oliver grit his teeth before pulling the trigger on his belt.

"Get out of my way!" Oliver said, destroying any pawns near him with an execution.

Oliver began panting from exhaustion, before looking up to Pierro.

"You're cheating! Since when could pawns move and capture freely?!" Oliver yelled.

"Oh that? That's just how a revolt works. The poor pieces are upset that their superiors are dead, so now they'll attack anyone they see" Pierro yelled.

"That's not how chess works!" Oliver yelled.

Pierro laughed before flipping Oliver off.

"Who cares? This is my game!" Pierro said as he cackled.

Oliver grimaced before turning to the destroyed bodies beside him. An idea came to his mind. Oliver picked one up, feeding it to his driver.

[Reservoir 68%]

"Accounting for my execution... These things only give back maybe 4 percent at best... Though considering the amount here..." A dark thought crossed Oliver's mind.

He began picking up as many pieces as he could then fed it to his driver.

[78%]

Hearing that made Oliver smile. He turned towards Pierro's side of the chess board, seeing the pawns beginning to multiply. He licked his lips before stretching.

"Hey buddy, you've helped me a lot, so you definitely deserve a reward. How bout a nice buffet!" Oliver said before running towards the pawns.

Oliver slowly but surely began destroying each and every one of the pawns. He didn't want to admit it, but destroying them was fun. Like crushing grapes. The amount of destruction he was causing, even Pierro started to become worried.

"I kill them with executions... then I absorb them to get back descent. Hey look, I found a new source of renewable energy!" Oliver said, sounding completely deranged.

Realising his army of pawns was destroyed so easily, Pierro began to get annoyed.

"Everything I do... He counters it... Why? You're supposed to just sit and suffer! Stop ruining my games!" Pierro yelled.

Pierro's hands began glowing in a fiery red aura before slamming down on his table. Oliver, who was busy killing a pawn, immediately stops before exploding into blood again. He dropped to the ground, but quickly stood back up. Seeing such willpower, Pierro began to panic. He slammed his hand over and over again on the table until the table split in half. As a result Oliver was bombarded with penalty after penalty. Just when his body began to heal, another came, then another, then another. He couldn't help but scream in pain. Hearing his screams, Pierro relaxed.

"Right... He's just a human... He's weak..." Pierro said to himself, trying to calm himself down.

The pawns begin to attack the defenseless Oliver, as if to avenge their fallen brothers. Oliver could feel himself be kicked, punched, stepped on, everything, yet he couldn't do anything. He was really going to give up at that moment, but he then remembered what he said to Sieg.

"I still don't know who I want to be... But I'll find out!"

Those words repeated in his head. What kind of person did he want to be? As he thought that, he was reminded of everything that has happened to him since he got the driver. All the pain, happiness, sadness, fear... Everything... It must've all happened for a reason right?

“No… there was no reason… I only did it cause it was the only thing to do… in the end… I still fought without a goal… I'm sorry… Mr Sieg…” Oliver thought to himself.

As he felt his consciousness slipping away, he saw Olivia trying to break through the barrier.

“Huh…? Don't do that stupid! You can't break it! And even if you did… you'd just die. Please! No I can't have you die! I can't have anyone else die because of me!” Oliver thought, clenching his fist tightly.

Seeing her try to do that, reminded Oliver of how many times people have sacrificed themselves just so he could be happy. He was always a burden to others. A parasite that took without giving any back. All because he told himself was weak. To him, he was no better than scum like Pierro. Somebody who uses others to satisfy their emptiness.

"I'm just a weak, cowardly bastard… but I don't wanna be like that! I don't want others to get hurt because of me! I don't wanna be weak anymore!" That single thought gave Oliver the strength to continue on. Even just a little bit.

He ripped off his helmet, before grabbing the nearest pawn and biting it. Consuming the flesh gave him just enough of a boost in descent energy to destroy the pawns ganging up on him. With each pawn he defeated, Pierro could notice some of the black parts on his suit start chipping away, revealing silver and turquoise underneath. Unlike before, his suit didn’t look like an incomplete mess. It was uniform with gold accenting the main colors of silver and black. The crevasses were lined with turquoise instead of the empty white from before - as if energy was being flowed throughout the entire suit. The knight-like visor was now a bright turquoise green with veins of red running through.

It was as if his suit had reacted to his determination and will, changing to reflect his current mentality… no it didn't change. This was what it was always supposed to be. Oliver just hadn't realised his reason for fighting.

The change startled Pierro, however his surprise quickly turned into anger. He pointed a finger at Oliver, ready to use another penalty on the investigator, when suddenly the territory’s barrier shattered.

"Take this you dumbass!"

An attachment unit case came flying towards Oliver, almost hitting his head. He managed to grab it, seeing the one who threw it was none other than Olivia.

"Wait don't you-"

"What're you waiting for? Kill him!" She yelled, sounding a bit annoyed.

Oliver looked at the attachment unit case for a moment, before smiling and laughing.

“Fuckin dumbass…” he thought as he looked at his sister.

Flipping the attachment unit open, he noticed it was one of Olivia's swords. His gaze turned into a proud one before gripping it tightly. He smiled a big smirk, looking up at Pierro with confidence that bordered arrogance. The sight infuriated Pierro.

"I've decided. I'm going to continue fighting… not because of something righteous like it's the right thing to do or because I wanna help people… but because I don't want to continue wasting my life saying 'that's just how it is'… so as long as I live… I'm gonna continue to change and be better… because… I wanna be a hero too damnit!”
