Chapter 12: Tomo’s training (Part 1)

“Well, good night.”(Diuscrucis)

* A few hours later -

After a few hours of rest, I woke up when Tomo started nudging my shoulder.

“Wake up sensei. I brought up breakfast from the main area of the building.”(Tomo)

{How nice of her. It looks like she grabbed egg, ham, and bacon burgers. She even has lemonade.}(Lulu)

{Sounds like a good meal.}(Diuscrucis)

Getting up, I took my share of the food from her and started eating.

“Thanks. Tell me. Did you look into your Status last night or will you like me to explain how it works?”(Diuscrucis)

“I looked at it last night and think I got the gist of it down.”(Tomo)

“Good. That saves us some time. Now the only things that I need to tell you are the important stuff. ‘Slurp’ Man, I like lemonade. Bring out your status screen and I’ll start explaining some key pieces of information.”(Diuscrucis)

“Firstly, your race is evolvable. As you complete conditions to evolve, It will start blinking and give you the option to do so. I suggest you do research into what you want to become because just evolving willy nilly will probably turn you into an abomination.”(Diuscrucis)

“The “High Humans” are probably the easiest to evolve into. Beyond that are the Vampires, Lesser Angels, and Mimics. All of them have advantages but, they all are bad in their own way. I suggest you look into it and choose for yourself. I don’t know many people who have the ability to evolve and those who did turned into monsters in the end. Unfortunately they had to be put down.”(Diuscrucis)

‘Slight frown.’ “I see.”(Tomo)

“Next is your level. 'Sigh’ Ok. I’m going to explain this as simply as I can. Leveling up in this world is no easy feat. In fact. It’s really complicated. Everyone starts at level zero. After gaining some experience, they go to level one. To reach level two, you need to get all the experience from zero to one and double it. To reach level three, you need all the experience from zero to two doubled. So on and so forth. Also before you ask, all experience goes to zero after leveling up. This means you need to regain all that experience and double it in order to level up again.”(Diuscrucis)

“That sounds harsh.”(Tomo)

“That's not the half of it. Every hundred levels the multiplayer increases by one. Not to mention, if you want to level up passed a thousand. You need to kill someone that's level a thousand. After doing so, you are sent back to level zero with a times two multiplayer. The upside to this is that you are now a higher existence. The downside is if you want to level up again, you will need all the experience from zero to a thousand doubled.”(Diuscrucis)

“Higher existence”?(Tomo)

“Ya. Higher existences. The higher you are, the more world breaking you are. The existences go like this:

Mortal -> High God -> Concept -> Instinct -> Are”(Diuscrucis)

“Are is a higher existence? Also, which one are you?”(Tomo)

“Indeed It is. As for your second question, I am a Mortal.”(Diuscrucis)

“What are the differences between them?”(Tomo)

“Mortal is anything that can easily be killed. At best, this level of power can wipe out an army by themselves. High Gods such as Pluto, Hades, and Artemis can start their own religion. At that level of power they can probably wipe out a nation or two by themselves. Concepts such as Karma, Death, and Languages are able to wipe out an entire species. They are ideas given life and grow stronger with the amount of people believing in them. Instincts such as Love, Hate, The Seven Deadly Sins, and The Seven Heavenly Virtues are instinctive. They are engraved into every living thing and influence all actions. They are engraved so deeply into the souls of the living that we act on them without thinking, most of the time. these guys have the powers to destroy realms. Lastly, is things that just Are. Things like Time, Mass, and Reality are just there. They have been there since the beginning, and will remain long after everything ends. These beings can destroy all creation.”(Diuscrucis)

“I feel like I just had a philosophy lesson……”(Tomo)

{I agree. You normally don’t talk like that Dad. Are you ok?}(Lulu)

“Next will be your profession and sub professions. Sub professions are side jobs you can have that give slight bonuses to yourself and others. As for your profession, I think it's best that you see it for yourself. In order to do that, I need to ask. What do you want to do? What did you do in your old world and how do you want to improve it?”(Diuscrucis)

“I spent most of my time fighting bullies and helping my brother. I was planning to be a police officer in order to help him out more but, you know. As for what I want to do. I would like to become a cop of some sort. This way I can continue helping my brother in the long run.”(Tomo)

“You really like your brother don’t you?”(Diuscrucis)

“Not really. At most it’s nothing more that sisterly love. When we were kids, I promised our dying mother that I would look out for him. I have been doing my best to help him stay safe and happy ever since. Unfortunately, he doesn't make it easy.”(Tomo)

“Aw! So sweet!”(Diuscrucis)

‘Blush’ “It’s not that sweet. I was only keeping a promise. I broke it the moment we split up here and besides, My opinion of him has been low recently.”(Tomo)

“I have a question for you.”(Diuscrucis)

“What is it?”(Tomo)

“The fuck’s a cop?”(Diuscrucis)

“A law enforcer. What do you call them here?”(Tomo)

“City guards.”(Diuscrucis)

“Oh.”(Tomo)

“Now if you want to be a guard then I can teach you how to become one. However, I think you are more interested in being a hunter.”(Diuscrucis)

“A hunter?”(Tomo)

“More specifically, you probably want to become a bounty hunter. They are vigilantes that fight in the name of the law. They act the same way as guards but, they aren't as restrained.”(Diuscrucis)

“How do I become a bounty hunter?”(Tomo)

“Help me with my job and you will be one in no time.”(Diuscrucis)

“Good to know.”(Tomo)

“Alright. Lastly will be spells and skills. Spells require magic and skills require mental energy. Any questions so far?”(Diuscrucis)

“Can you tell me what your job is?”(Tomo)

“I need to fix some problems in west zone. Now, are you done eating?”(Diuscrucis)

“I am.”(Tomo)

“Good. Then let's go shopping.”(Diuscrucis)

While I was heading towards the door, Tomo stopped me with a holler.

“Sensei! I still have some questions.”(Tomo)

“Then you can ask them while we walk. To be honest, I don’t know where any of the clothing stores are located. So come on.”(Diuscrucis)

“Coming.”(Tomo)

Saying that, she picked up the trash and threw it away before following after me.

“What type of cloths do I need?”(Tomo)

“That depends on how you want to fight. That reminds me. How did you fight during your old life?”(Diuscrucis)

“It’ll take a while to explain.”(Tomo)

“Take your time. I have no idea where we're going.”(Diuscrucis)

{That should be an easy question. Why is she making the explanation longer than it needs to be?}(Lulu)

{Don’t know. I must have unlocked the hero’s backstory or something.}(Diuscrucis)

{Maybe. Dad, take a left up ahead and walk straight for three blocks. Silky Wears will be on your left.}(Lulu)

In short, Tomo has had a tough childhood. She was bullied and abused a lot as a kid and got into fights all the time. Through these experiences, she came in contact with all kinds of bladed weapons. She never mastered using any of them but, she understands the nature and use of blades to a frightening degree. After talking with her for some time, we arrive at our destination.

“It took us 45 minutes to walk here.”(Tomo)

“If I knew where it was to begin with, we could have made it here in fifteen.”(Diuscrucis)

After saying this, we walked inside Silky Wears. It is the building that looks fairly similar to the brick buildings around it. Inside, the build was split into two sections. On the left was a weapon maniacs playground. It has hundreds of weapons and armors on display. It has a forge and scrap steel laying around the furnace. I could feel my heart flutter just by looking at it. On the right was a woman’s paradise. It had beautiful jewelry, clothes, shoes, and even great hair and skin care products.

“Yes, sensei?”(Tomo)

“You have four thousand credits to buy yourself at least eight pairs of cloths, one pair of undergarments to put under your armor, and a hat. I’ll leave choosing them up to you. If you need me I’ll be over there.”(Diuscrucis)

“What about my armor and weapons?”(Tomo)

“Leave those to me.”(Diuscrucis)

“I’ll see you later then.”(Tomo)

{Dad?}(Lulu)

{Can I go shopping with her?}(Lulu/???)

The hell? Looking around I couldn’t see anyone close enough for me to hear their voice so clearly.

{Lulu?}(Diuscrucis)

{Both you and a young sounding woman talked at the same time. Didn’t you hear her?}(Diuscrucis)

‘Panic stricken voice’ {Your mad at me!?.....Dad is mad at me! Please don’t be mad at me! I’ll be a good girl! I promise! Please forgive me! ‘Sobbing’}(Lulu)

Ignoring her panic, I looked for the person in charge of the store. After a few seconds of searching, I find a silver haired woman standing behind a counter. She has pale skin, ruby colored eyes and a silver horn growing from the top of her forehead. The horn was a few inches long. She’s a tall woman with a modest breast size and is wearing a fine red dress. Looking at her, I couldn’t help but feel that I’ve seen her somewhere before.

{Lulu, do you recognize her?}(Diuscrucis)

‘Whispers’ ‘Sobs’ {Dad is mad at me…….Dad is mad at me……….I’m a bad girl……He will never forgive me…….Why aren't I a good girl?….....Dad is mad at me….}(Lulu)

I’ll just let her work that out. She’s going to be in that state for a few hours before she can start crawling her way back out.

“Hello ma'am, May I ask you some questions?”(Diuscrucis)

“Go ahead.”(???)

“Have we met before?”(Diuscrucis)

‘Averts eyes’ “......No. I don’t believe we have.”(???)

Yup. She totally knows me. My question is who is she? Questions for later. Now it’s time to put my [Mimic] skill to use. I wonder if I can still use my sister’s [persuasion] skill?

“Hm. My mistake then. Do you mind if I use your forge? I would also like to use your materials. I am low on credits right now so I am willing to pay for the costs in some other way.”(Diuscrucis)

“You can use the forge and materials under the condition that you pay back what you use. I will also like some payment in advance.”(???)

“What will the advance payment be miss?...Ummm?”(Diuscrucis)

“Carolina. My name is Carolina. As for the payment, I would like a kiss.”(Carolina)

“I thank you for the generous offer then.”(Diuscrucis)

I don’t like the look in her eyes when she said that last part. When I leaned in to kiss her, she grabbed my head and pulled me in for a deep kiss. Huh, déjà vu. Letting go of my head, she smiles.

“It’s just as good as I remember….”(Carolina)

I wonder if she realizes that she contradicted herself. Also. Who the fuck is she?!

“If you don't mind. Can you help my friend find some clothes. She’s over there. The one with orange hair.”(Diuscrucis)

“No problem.”(Carolina)

Saying that, she walked away with a smile on her face. Turning toward the forge, I start picking up scrap metal and leather. Reaching the forge, I started creating a weapon for Tomo.

“The materials here suck but, this should be good until I can get better materials.”(Diuscrucis)

Looking at the two women across the room, I couldn’t help but sigh. Sometimes I’m glad most women take hours to shop for clothes.

* A few hours later -

After a few hours, Tomo finished shopping. After paying three thousand and some hundred credits, she changed what she was wearing. Now she was wearing some leather body suit with a black clock and a spiked belt. It makes her look like a child trying to play thief. She is wearing a black bandana on her head and was admiring herself in a mirror. After a while, she walked over to me and stared at what I was doing from the distance. After a while, she spoke up.

“Why did you want me to buy a hat?”(Tomo)

“Hats are vital for any adventurer’s attire.”(Diuscrucis)

“Then what about you? You’re not wearing a hat.”(Tomo)

“What do you think I’ve been doing for the last hour?”(Diuscrucis)

“Making a malformed log.”(Tomo)

“It’s a fucking fedora!”(Diuscrucis)

“Why would you make one out of metal?”(Tomo)

“Because of reasons.”(Diuscrucis)

“How can a hat help an adventurer?”(Tomo)

“You never know when you might need something a little extra.”(Diuscrucis)

“I just want to add that fedoras are the hats of perverts.”(Tomo)

“And bandanas are the hats of criminals.”(Diuscrucis)

‘Glare’ “.....”(Tomo)

‘Ignore’ “....’(Diuscrucis)

After a few seconds of silence, she sat down and continued to watch what I’m doing.

‘Stare’(Tomo)

‘Sigh’ “I’m almost done so catch.”(Diuscrucis)

While I continued working on my hat, I tossed Tomo her weapon. Catching it, she examined the blade in silence. I tossed her a remodeled rapier. It has a skinny grip and has a dragon shaped handguard. The sword has three blades. Two on the outside and one in the middle. The outside blades have a good length, are flat and made of reinforced steel. The middle blade is an energy pole with a point. This way she can hack, slash, and stab with just this one weapon. This blade will do much better that those metallic sticks will ever do. It is much more versatile than a rapier and it can actually block attacks.

“That weapon is yours until it breaks or I have what I need to improve it.”(Diuscrucis)

“Thank you.”(Tomo)

“Your welcome.”(Diuscrucis)

‘Stare’(Carolina)

Why the fuck is she the one staring at me now!?.............................After a few more minutes, my hat was done. It is an orange fedora with some red blotches on it. Looking towards Tomo, I see her messing around with her new weapon.

“Ready to go?”(Diuscrucis)

“Yes, I’m ready.”(Tomo)

“Then let’s go.”(Diuscrucis)

Turning towards Carolina, I smile while giving a small wave.

“Thanks for everything.”(Diuscrucis)

‘Big smile’ “Please come again and pay for what you used.”(Carolina)

{Lulu. Can you hear me?}(Diuscrucis)

‘Sobs’ {......Dad…}(Lulu)

{Good. You're coming back from your little panic attack. I need to ask you. How do I get to the adventurers guild from here?}(Diuscrucis)

‘Sniffle’ {Each corner of the city has one…….. The closest one will be to the west of here….. Turn right after leaving the building and go straight until you are about to leave town. It will be on your right.}(Lulu)

{That’s a good girl.}(Diuscrucis)

Leaving the building, Tomo and I walked to the adventurer’s guild. On the way there, Tomo finally figured out how to sheath her sword. We finally arrive at the building after a few minutes.

“We were closer to one than I thought.”(Diuscrucis)

“It looks like a bar.”(Tomo)

“Only in the main lobby. everywhere else is a lot more respectable.”(Diuscrucis)

The guild is a large two story metal building with bones for support beams. It is shorter than the buildings around it and has a blue neon sign that says “Adventurer’s Guild” on it. Looking around inside, Tomo looked disappointed. The main lobby is a big gathering place. It has tables and chairs scattered around with dozens of people drinking their hearts out. They are having lively talks and the noise in the room was louder than I was comfortable with. Tomo on the other hand seemed perfectly fine with it. The back of the room has two sets of stairs, One goes up and the other goes down. On the left side of the room. I see the receptionists standing behind stalls and all of them are ghosts. Wait…. are ghosts businessmen? That makes……. so much sense! No wonder all the ghosts I’ve fought in the past were so bad at fighting. They’re not suppose to. I’m so glad I have that figured out. The ghosts are wearing business suits and are waiting patiently for people to approach them. On the right I can see both the mission and the bounty boards. Looking back at the reception, I smile when I see a familiar face.

‘Holler’ “Ghost! How long has it been?! A day?!”(Diuscrucis)

Standing behind one of the stalls was a blue man with a hole through his chest.

“Oh! Hay buddy! Good to see you!”(Ghost)

After calling out to him I started walking over to the receptionist. When I reach him we shake hands.

“So what can I do for you?”(Ghost)

“My friend and I need to register for the guild.”(Diuscrucis)

“It will cost a hundred credits each and some of your blood.”(Ghost)

Paying the fee and sticking out our hands, he put two gray slabs under them and then stabbed our hands with a knife. Upon taking out the knives from our hands, blood poured out in large amounts. Needless to say, Tomo screamed in pain after the knife came out. She continued to scream until the hole in her hand closed up.

{I didn’t scream. I groaned really loudly.}(Diuscrucis)

After she composed herself again she looked at me with a look that said “The fuck man?! I thought you were on my side?!

“You never asked if it was going to hurt.”(Diuscrucis)

‘Mutter’ “You could have at least warned me sensei.”(Tomo)

“Thanks for the help man.(Diuscrucis)

“No problem. Be seeing you around Reaper, Revaline.”(Ghost)

Looking at the gray slabs, they drank our blood and shrunk down to the size of a business card. Each one had our respective name, level, profession, and rank. Handing Tomo hers, I led her down stairs. When we reached down stairs, we were looking at a long hall with doors on each side of the room. Finding a door that was unlocked, We went inside and locked the door. Looking around, all I could see is a white void. Smiling I walk straight for a few minutes before turning to the now confused Tomo.

“This is one of the guild’s training rooms. It has the power to heal you from any wound. Even if said wound is total disintegration. We are starting your training now. Let me know when you are ready.”(Diuscrucis)

“We’re starting just like that?”(Tomo)

“Yup. I figured the best way to train you is to start with a sparring match and see what needs to be improved.”(Diuscrucis)

“I see.”(Tomo)

She walks a few meters away from me. Pulling out her sword, she holds it with both hands and aims it directly a me. The center blade appears with a green glow.

‘Look of determination’ “I’m ready sensei.”(Tomo)

Smiling I raise my hand into the air and a black spear comes out of my shadow. It floats into my hand. After looking as Tomo for a few seconds, I charge at her. While I’m coming, She makes a horizontal swing when she thinks I’m within her range. Unfortunately, I slide under her swing and impale her stomach with the spear. She goes down immediately. Pulling out the spear, I watch as she rapidly regenerates. Slowly she gets up and readies herself again. With a look of determination in her eyes.

“It looks like we have a long way to go.”(Diuscrucis)
