Today's The Day

Today was the day.

What day, you ask?

The day that we get our new ship of course!

We arrived at the shipyard and Felicia was there to meet us since we had already told them ahead of time when our expected time of arrival would be.

"Welcome back, Miss Tera! I am very happy to report that your ship has been completed and is awaiting your inspection!"

I nodded for her to lead the way and she started guiding me to the docks where our new ship would be anchored.

Along the way, Felicia continued, "You might also like to know that we have also successfully installed the kitchen appliances that you ordered, Miss Tera! I am sure you would be very satisfied with the work we've done on your ship!"

We turned towards the bridge that led towards the docking hatch of our new ship.

Since this was a C Class ship, most ships of this class would be too big to fit in the docking hangars of most stations and they would usually dock outside instead.

This is also why most larger ships would have smaller ships on board that are specifically used to transport people and goods to and from stations in case those stations do not have the space to allow larger ships to dock.

We stopped in front of the entry hatch and she turned to me with a smile, "Please, after you!"

I turned to my companions and all of them gave me a nod.

Sucking in a breath, I stepped towards the door.

There was a beep coming from the door that I realised was a sensor recognising me as the captain and allowing me entry.

When I stepped past the doors, I found myself standing in what looked like the cargo bay of the ship.

Felicia immediately started introducing us to the ship, "There are two entrance hatches for this ship, one here and the other on the opposite side."

Sure enough, when she pointed on the opposite side, I could see another entry hatch leading in.

She then turned back to point at the wall beside the entrance hatch, "Aside from the entrance hatches, the walls you see here are actually loading bay doors that can be opened up to move cargo in and out of the ship! To assist cargo loading, there are two built-in cranes above that can be extended outside the ship. This function is also present on the other side as you can see~"

I looked up to see that there were tracks embedded in the ceiling and two boxy looking things which I assume must be the cranes she mentioned that would help load up cargo into the cargo bay.

Felicia tapped on her personal terminal, "This cargo bay is designed to be able to store up to two thousand SGDU of cargo efficiently."

I recalled that it stood for Standard Galactic Delivery Units which is their standard measurement for delivering stuff or something.

My old ship could barely fit ten of those units after storing our own stuff so this was a really big step up.

Also, I'm pretty sure they said two thousand units as a safe number but if we maximise our space efficiency, we might be able to store more than that.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Felicia then turned to me, "Would you like to look at the hangars first or shall we move to the other side first?"

We decided that the hangar would be a better place to start from so we went to the bow of the ship.

Stepping into the hangar, I found a large space big enough to store my Verlandi with space leftover. There's even space to store tools meant for doing maintenance on the ship stored here.

The ship would enter from below where the doors would slide open and the ship could either land on top of the closed doors, or be attached to what appeared to be magnetic locks hanging from the ceiling of the hangar.

She told us that it was the same on the other hangar so we only took a quick look to ensure everything looked fine before moving back through the cargo bay to inspect the rest of the ship.

The first room after the cargo bay was what appeared to be the security room and armoury room.

"This security door can even withstand a direct blast from a railgun! Any pirates boarding your ship will have a hard time getting through this area, assuming they can even get on board in the first place! There's security turrets on both sides of the door and additional doors can lock down either side to trap them in this corridor as well!"

To demonstrate, she brought us to the security room on the other side of the door which granted us a view of the corridor through a one way glass. There were consoles that could be used to control the security throughout the ship here.

"What if the security room is compromised? Won't the entire ship be compromised as well?" Ries asked.

Felicia shook her head, "There's another security console in the Captain's quarters and another one in the bridge. The Captain will be able to override the security consoles in case such a thing happens at any of those consoles and also through their personal terminal."

Well, that's definitely good, though I hope we wouldn't have to use that function.

Moving past the security room was a corridor that seemed to lead to different parts of the ship.

Directly to the left and right were several doors and Felicia was quick to point to them, "These are the living quarters and, as you had requested, they each come with their own beds, toilet and shower. Although that means we had to compromise on the space here, there's still enough room to fit a crew of ten without counting the Captain of course."

Checking inside the room, the rooms were roughly a little bigger than the ones in my Verlandi with the bunk bed and toilet. The only thing missing was the stoves which were replaced with study desks for the occupant's use.

Definitely an upgrade.

Moving down the corridor to reach the cross junction, she stopped at the last door to gesture at it.

"This is the bath that you have requested."

I was the first one to rush through the door to check it out.

Hey! Baths are nice ok? And they're a real luxury that I wish I could have more often!

It looks like they had also built it as I had asked where the front part of the bath was a laundry area that connected to a shower area before finally reaching a large pool at the back that was the bath.

Right now, the bath was empty but Felicia quickly showed us how we could control the bath through a control panel at the side of the bath.

I'm definitely going to take a bath here today!

Moving out of the bath, we went back to the intersection that split towards three different directions.

On the left, it led to a dead end with a window that showed the exterior of the ship while the path forward and to the right led to a door each at the end of their paths.

There also seemed to be T-junctions a short distance down the left and right paths that continued to the back of the ship as well.

"To the right we have the Captain's quarters and the room that you've requested to be set aside for the indoor garden. Would you like to see those first?" Felicia asked.

We nodded so the first room she guided us was the Captain's Quarters, which was basically my room, obviously.

The room was at least three to four times bigger than the normal room for the crew, though the size was warranted considering the fact that about half the room was taken up by a really, really big bed that could easily fit six people on it with space to spare.

The room also featured a study area and the aforementioned security console as well as an attached bathroom.

There was also a safe installed there which served as my personal storage and also what looked like a walk-in wardrobe.

If you ask me, this was pretty extravagant but Amber was the one who designed this so I didn't really say anything.

The next room we went to inspect was the supposed Hydroponics room which Lea was clearly quite excited to see.

Stepping past the door, we were greeted with a large, empty room that I was sure could be used to make a really big hydroponics garden for us and I was even thinking we could section off a part of the room for livestock. That's assuming that we could even get one of course.

Just as I was about to comment on the room, Lea suddenly let out an angry cry.

"What have you done?!"

Oh wow, I think this might be the first time I heard her raise her voice like that… What did they do?
