Seems Like I'm Really Lucky

Slots were definitely out since those were pretty much rigged all the time.

I decided to go try out my luck at the roulette table instead, just to see how it worked and whether I actually possessed luck.

The other girls joined me and Amber was giving me a dubious look, "Do you know how to play this one, Tera?"

I was going to say yes but stopped when I realised that they might have different rules in this universe so I shook my head.

"Could you explain?"

She pointed at the roulette, "There's numbers on that spinny thingy and a ball the guy over there would throw inside. We make bets on where the ball would land and if you are right, you win~"

Err… Ok, that's a very simple version of the rules and it sounds similar to the roulette I'm familiar with.

I looked at the betting table and the layout looks similar to what I've seen before as well.

I guess for this, it's a 'don't fix it if it ain't broken' kind of thing? Especially since they use red and black as the colours as well.

This one in particular had double zeros on it too which I was also familiar with.

I know roulette was also a game that was pretty much rigged in the house's favour so I'm not really expecting myself to win.

Looking at the bets, it seems like the minimum bet is ten Credits and there's a maximum bet of one thousand Credits.

If you want the higher stakes tables, you would need to go further inside including one that was completely virtual where there was no physical table and everything was played out on a screen.

I wonder if those could be hacked? But then again, they should have crazy amounts of security to prevent something like that.

Well, whatever, I'm just going to limit myself to five thousand Credits. If I lose it all on this table, I'll just leave.

I have self control, ok?

Well, let's just start off simple first… How do I make bets?

Amber noticed that I was looking around the table and pointed to a slot on the table near where I was standing.

I instantly knew that I had to plug my personal terminal in there so that's what I did.

An application loaded up on my Codex and it looks like I could make bets directly through the terminal itself.

I went ahead to place a small bet of ten Credits on Red right as the roulette began to spin.

Amber and the others also went ahead to place their own bets and I realised that the holographic chips appeared around the table to indicate the bets that all the guests were placing through their personal terminals.

It seems like Lea bet the same amount on black, Ries bet on odd and Amber surprisingly placed her bet on Red Twelve.

As the wheel started to slow down, a notification popped up on my terminal indicating that all betting were to cease as we await the results.

The ball in the wheel bounced around before settling on a specific slot, the result clearly displayed on both our terminal screens and a holographic screen that popped up above the table.

Red Twelve.

Oh, I was not only surprised that I won, but Amber actually won too?

"Waaaaahhh!! I won! Look, look! I won!" Amber cried out excitedly while shaking me excitedly.

"Mnn… Yes, I can see that, congratulations."

I received my winnings of ten Credits while Amber saw three hundred and fifty Credits being sent to her terminal.

The next round of betting quickly started and I went ahead to bet ten Credits on Red again.

Amber went to bet on Black Two this time while Lea and Ries decided to follow me and bet on Red.

The roulette slowly stopped spinning and the result was once again displayed for everyone to see.

Red Three.

Looks like Amber was the only one who lost this time. Not a big deal for her since her winnings still covered her loss right now.

Amber pouted as she watched the hologram of her Credits disappear from the table, clearly unhappy that she lost.

I decided to up the ante a little and place a bet of twenty Credits on the first dozen group. If the ball lands on any number between one to twelve, I would win.

Lea and Ries seemed to be contemplating for a moment before they placed their own bets, the Alv putting it on Black while Ries bet on Even.

Amber seemed to take her time considering her options for a moment before placing another bet of three hundred Credits on a corner bet of five, six, eight and nine.

Geez, Amber… This is how you lose your money you know?

Then again… I was actually taking a risk myself with my own bet so it's not like I could say anything…

The roulette stopped once more and the results were shown, revealing it to be a Black Eight.

Oh wow, all of us won.

I won an additional twenty Credits while Amber was cheering from her two thousand and four hundred Credits win.

"Seems like you're pretty lucky, huh?" I mused, even as she was hugging me tightly while cheering.

She rubbed her face against mine, "Of course I'm lucky! Isn't it a given that I'm lucky since I managed to get together with you in the first place?"

"Captain has been winning all her bets though," Lea pointed out. "I would argue she is more lucky than you."

Amber grinned, "Oh definitely~ How can luck escape Tera? She's practically luck personified!"

I think that's going a little too far but whatever… The next round is already starting so I'm going to bet twenty Credits on… Fuck it, let's just go with a line bet of six numbers, specifically twenty five to thirty.

Amber grinned, "I'm going a thousand Credits on twenty five!!"

Seriously? I get that you've been winning so far but… Ah whatever… If she wins, she would get thirty five thousand Credits and if she loses she would still have won over a thousand Credits in total.

But still… I think you would have better odds of winning if you were to split up your bets and bet on multiple numbers instead. It doesn't look like they restrict you on making single bets and you could place multiple bets on different outcomes too.

I'm only not doing it because I'm still testing this place out and I don't want to risk too much while I wasn't sure what the odds were.

On the other hand, Lea and Ries decided to bet differently this time and went to put ten Credits on Red.

All of us directed our gaze towards the wheel alongside the other guests, watching the ball roll around the ball track before hitting one of the diamonds and started bouncing around the pockets.

I saw it hit the zero pocket before it bounced off back onto the ball track and hit another diamond on the way.

It then rolled back on to the pockets as it started to lose momentum rolling over the pockets.

It bounced over thirty one, then rolled over to twenty five but I knew it had too much momentum to stop there and I was right as it bounced over it immediately.

The ball then went back onto the ball track, hitting the apex of its flight before rolling back down into the pocket for Black Eleven.

I thought it would settle there but it rolled over the divider to cross Red Thirty and once more to settle on Black Twenty Six.

The results were displayed and… Well… It look like I won.

Amber immediately turned around and hugged me, "Wahhh!! You won! You won!"

Umm… While I'm happy about that… You just lost a thousand Credits though?

I watched as a hundred twenty Credits were added on top of my bet before being returned to me.

Ok, I was really not expecting to make a profit here and together with Amber, we've made over a thousand Credits in winning already.

It was certainly nothing compared to the five million that guy had given us but the question was whether we should continue?

We could have just been really lucky and won those few rounds but one of the key skills in gambling is knowing when to cash out.

Looking around me, I could clearly tell the overall winners and the losers amongst the crowd and there were definitely more losers than winners.

Heck, some were even looking our way with clear envy especially since I seem to have good luck with winning all my bets at the moment.

If I had to guess, they might start following my bets soon and the dealer or the casino might start to take notice that something might be wrong even though I wasn't cheating.

I decided that this should be enough for now, at least for this table… We should head on to the next one instead.

Maybe… There might be some poker tables around?
