Of course, we looted the entire room clean first before we dealt with the pirate lord who had been reduced to a sobbing mess after what Amber had done to him.
We couldn't take everything of course so we were planning on just taking anything that we found were either the most valuable or the most interesting to me.
I checked on the minigun guy first and he was definitely dead… It seems like his head was the only part of him that wasn't cybernetically modified and a pool of blood had spewed out from his decapitated head.
I realised that he literally converted his entire body into a power armour and he even had some kind of energy core embedded in his chest which was what powered his shields.
The only thing I managed to find worthwhile on him was a Credit Chip that had a few hundred Credits on it and that was it.
His minigun was completely destroyed and unless we had a power saw or some laser cutters, there was no way we were getting the energy core out from his chest.
The fact that I even thought about taking that worried me a little.
As for the rest of the armoury… We took as much ammo as we could and bundled up the weapons that we knew would sell for a higher price on the market.
Unfortunately, there weren't any weapons that particularly stood out to me, although I did decide to set aside some of the weapons for our own use like a few of the pistols and rifles.
Of course, can't forget some of the anti-armour weapons like one of the rocket launchers which came in both a projectile variant and a pure energy variant, the latter basically shooting out a high powered laser that would burn through most armour.
Pretty cool if you ask me, which was why I just had to have one of it set aside for our own use.
As for how to get all of this out of here… They had those crates that were meant to store and transport weapons, so I packed all of them into one and used some kind of hover cart that I used to push the crate out of the armoury while Amber dealt with the pirate lord.
I also loaded in an extra empty crate just to throw in any other stuff that we might come across on our way back.
Hey! It's free loot! You expect me to leave them behind?!
Amber obviously had no love for that pirate lord as she dragged him along with us by his hair, the broken man screaming into the cloth that we had stuffed into his mouth to keep him quiet
The hover cart proved to be an absolute treasure as it even allowed me to push the crate up the stairs without much trouble. I am so keeping this as well.
Meanwhile, I got to see the pirate lord get dragged up the stairs, Amber not even caring that the guy was bouncing off the steps behind her.
She turned to me when we reached the top of the stairs, "Those military stuckups should be at the back of the ship. Let's head there."
I nodded, "Might also want to keep an eye out, we don't know if there's more pirates still hiding around here."
She then raised her free hand that she was not using to drag the pirate, showing me she was holding one of her pistols the entire time.
I nodded in understanding and started leading us towards the back of the battlecruiser using the map that I had projected on my Codex.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
On the way there, we heard some footsteps coming from around the corner and we both stopped.
I immediately pulled out my shotgun while Amber dropped the pirate lord unceremoniously to equip her other pistol to point at the corner.
"Wait… What if they aren't pirates?" I whispered.
Amber paused for a moment before nodding at me to stay where I was before she went to the corner and pressing her back against it.
I held my gun steady as the footsteps got louder and louder until a man appeared from the corner.
Amber reacted immediately by grabbing the guy and spinning him around with her arm wrapped around his neck and her pistol pointed at his head.
"Don't move! Freeze!" She ordered.
Several others appeared from the corner, all of them raising their guns to point at us.
All of us stared at each other for a second or two before breathing out and relaxing when we realised that neither side were pirates.
Amber quickly let go of the person she was holding and one of the other female Mercs immediately berated him.
"What did I tell you Josh? Check your corners right?"
The Merc named Josh rolled his eyes, "Yeah, yeah. My bad, ok? But if that was a pirate I could have dealt with it."
He then turned to us and noticed the hover cart I was pushing, "What? You girls just here to loot the place?"
Amber holstered one of her guns and jerked her chin at him, "Yeah, we are. So what?"
"The biggest reward is capturing the pirate lord though. Are you girls giving that up?"
The person who had berated Josh nudged her elbow against his side before nodding at the pirate lord that was tied up and gagged near my feet.
Josh frowned, "What? You girls kidnapping someone now?"
A few of his team mates facepalmed.
The girl smacked him on the back of his head, "They already got him, idiot."
"Huh? That's the pirate lord? I don't even know what he looks like so how are you so sure?"
"Why else would anyone be dragging around a pirate, idiot?"
"Ugh… Fair… Ah fuck, that means we're too late huh?"
Josh turned to us and noticed that neither Amber nor myself had relaxed and were still watching his party warily while holding our guns.
He raised his hands in a placating gesture, "Woah, woah, relax. We're not those kinds of bastards who would try and steal him from you. On my honour, you don't need to worry about that from us."
Amber narrowed her eyes at him, "You'll have to forgive me for being sceptical even with your assurance."
He shrugged, "Fair enough. Anyway! Since we already know the pirate lord got clapped, that means we better go and start looting the rest of the ship before the other Mercs do! Good thing we found out about this, eh?"
The rest of his party made some noncommittal noises.
"The armoury is just down the stairs behind us," I told him, nodding in the direction of said stairs. "We didn't take everything so if you're looking for weapons to loot, you can look there."
Josh nodded, "Much appreciated pretty lady. I'm assuming you girls are looking for the military to hand over that guy right? They're just down the corridor and to the right. You should see a few guys in uniform there."
I nodded a thanks to him but said nothing else.
He shrugged at my non-response before turning to his team, "Come on guys, let's grab everything that isn't bolted down!"
They walked past us and Amber only returned to my side after they were out of sight.
"You seem to be quite tense," I noted as Amber bent down to pick up the pirate lord by the hair again.
"You can never know whether they would shoot you from the front or the back just to get some extra Credits. You can never be too careful about this."
I'm going to guess that she's speaking from experience for this as well.
I didn't question her about it and merely continued on our way and followed Josh's directions, turning a left after we reached an intersection.
Sure enough, there were a few people dressed in what appeared to be military fatigues watching over another intersection.
Two of them saw us approaching and immediately pointed their weapons at us.
"Halt! Identify yourselves!"
I didn't get to say anything before the second guy relaxed and put his hand on his buddy's gun to push it down.
"Wait, they're Mercs. Did you forget? She's the one who gave the speech back at the meeting."
The other guy relaxed, "Ah, you're right. Sorry about that."
The second soldier nodded at the pirate lord that Amber was still dragging along, "I'm assuming the guy you got there is the pirate lord?"
Amber nodded, tossing him onto the floor in between us.
The two of them moved to secure the pirate lord, the first soldier chuckling when he saw the state he was in.
"Damn, seems like he did something to piss you girls off huh? This guy's an absolute mess!"
The second soldier nodded at us, "We'll bring him to the Captain. Could you follow us to verify his identity with us and to also confirm that you are the ones who captured him?"
Aww… I wanted to loot more of the ship… Then again, I still haven't gotten the pirate lord to spill where he kept his treasures yet.
Oh well… Lead the way I guess.
