Getting Into The Warehouse

“Are you sure you’ll be fine, Tera? I can just help out from the side without anyone knowing too,” Amber asked.

“Geez, I’ll be fine, Amber. Remember who was the one who pulled you out of that pirate ambush, ok? I know how to handle myself,” I assured her.

Really, I feel that she suddenly got really overprotective all of a sudden, almost like I was dealing with a mother hen constantly clucking over me.

I can’t deny that she looks really cute all flustered like that so I just gave her a kiss on her lips which quickly shut her up.

“I’ll be fine, really. Trust me.”

“Mnnggh… I suppose… Please be careful, Tera.”

I giggled, “Yes, yes. I’ll make sure to come back home for dinner, mommy~”

“Oh just for that… We are so doing it tonight!”

I raised an eyebrow at her, “Has there been a night where we’ve not done it?”

“Ehehehe~ I just can’t help it when I see you looking so sexy~”

I doubt I even did anything remotely ‘sexy’ every night as she claims but ok…

I reassured her that I would be fine for the tenth time before I finally managed to separate myself from her.

Checking the map that the guild gave me, I found my way to the warehouse easily enough.

I was expecting it to be located in some kind of abandoned warehouse again but surprisingly, this one was located in a rather well maintained district.

There were other warehouses here as well and a number of freight carrying trucks were still running along the roads.

The warehouse I’m looking for was also quite easy to find considering the fact that it was the only one with armed guards standing at the entrance.

Hmm… The building itself had no windows and from the map I received of the building, there were only two entrances, one being the front door and one being the back door. I was not counting the loading bays as entrances since they were right beside the front entrance and they were all shut anyway.

Walking around the building, I found two people watching the main entrance while one guy was watching the back door.

I guess it was obvious which side I should be entering from… But how should I approach this?

Oh, I know! Let me just stash my weapons somewhere…

First thing I did was to go to the guy guarding the back door, the thug furrowing his brows when he saw me.

He quickly raised his palm to stop me, “Hold it right there, woman. What the fuck are you trying to do?”

I acted confused, “What am I doing? Isn’t this the entrance to the party? Your boss invited me to have a party with him there.”

“A party? What the fuck are you on about? Do you even know where you are now?”

I looked around and shrugged, “Well… I guess not the hottest spot in the station but I’m not picky as long as there’s music and booze.”

His eyes narrowed, “Hold up… Wait a minute… You’re a prostitute?”

I huffed at him, “My, seems like someone decided to leave their tact at home today. What? Did I get the wrong place or something?”

His eyes changed and now he was leering at me, “Huh… Bastard seems to be enjoying himself despite making the rest of us work like idiots… Hey, how much?”

I wagged my finger at him, “Uh-uh, I’m on the clock here. I can’t make any detours.”

“Tch… Fucking hell… Whatever, hope Joe slips and falls on his head. Bloody fucker just sitting his ass in the manager’s office thinking he’s the actual manager of this place… Go in then.”

I smiled at him as he reached for the door handle.

The moment his hand touched it, I went behind him and held my hand over his mouth before pulling out my knife and stabbing it into his back.

He tried to scream but I held strong, pulling out the knife to stab him a few more times and only stopping when his body went limp.

I then pulled away from him before manoeuvring the corpse to lean against the door.

To any passers-by, it would look like the guy was having a nap while leaning against the door. To the people inside, this door is now blocked and no one’s getting out from this entrance.

I went back to retrieve my weapons that I had hid behind some crates before making my way to the front door.

I made sure to look as casual as possible while walking up towards the front entrance and the two men immediately pointed their weapons at me when they saw me.

“Stop right there! Who the fuck are you?!”

I raised my hand in surrender, “Woah, what the fuck? I get called over by Joe to help you guys with that locked box and this is the reception I get?”

Now both of them looked confused.

“Wait… Joe called you here?”

I huffed at him, “Yeah. Said you fuckers would sooner blow the box up and break whatever that’s inside. So I’m here to hack it open for you guys.”

The thug on the right frowned and levelled his gun at me, “Oh yeah? Where’s your tools?! How are you going to hack it open?!”

I pointed at my wrist, “This is all I need.”

Their gaze shifted to the Codex on my wrist and it was quite obvious they did not believe me.

I rolled my eyes, “Fine, call Joe or whatever. Ask him. He’s the one who said, and I quote, ‘the guys here are all just incompetent trash who can’t even open a goddamn box’.”

Both men blinked before turning furious at the exact same time.

“What the fuck?! Who the fuck does he think he is?!”

“He really thinks he’s the boss now huh?!”

I shrugged, “I dunno what’s going on with you guys, but he told me to go see him in the manager’s office as soon as I arrived. Certainly wasn’t expecting to be met with guns pointing at my face though.”

The thug on the left stomped his foot on the ground, not even pointing his gun at me anymore, “Argh!! That motherfucker! I swear I’ll get him back today! Fuck this shit, I don’t care anymore! I’m going to go find him right now!”

He then stormed into the warehouse, ignoring me entirely.

The last guy looked at his friend leave before turning to me, a conflicted look on his face.

“Maybe we should just go see Joe?” I suggested.

He let out a curse under his breath and turned around to storm into the warehouse as well.

Wow, alright, that went better than I thought it would.

If they had tried to call him from here, I would have needed to shoot my way in. Seems like I don’t need to do that and I’ll be taken right to their boss instead. That would save me the trouble of searching through the warehouse.

We went through the door and the place was relatively empty inside.

I could already see the military crate that I was here for sitting in the centre of the room with various tools sitting around it and a pair of guys currently hammering away on the crate.

One guy was watching them from the side and another three sat at a table playing cards nearby.

There was a floor above supported by some rafters that had only one room and one set of stairs going up to a gangway that connected to said room. The first guy that stormed in was currently storming up the stairs and wasn’t even hiding his displeasure at all as he thumped his way up the stairs.

Assuming Joe was the only one upstairs, that brings the total number of hostiles here to ten. Nine if we weren’t counting the dead guy outside.

Right… I need a plan now… I can walk freely in here because they think I’m supposed to be here… I have the advantage of surprise right now.

First, let’s see the level of threat…

The two guys at the box only have the hammers with them and the guy watching them is completely unarmed.

The three guys sitting at the table have their guns resting against the wall nearby but were also otherwise unarmed.

That means the two most dangerous people to me are the guy in front of me and the one who is currently ascending to the second floor.

I guess I should also count Joe as well in case he has a weapon up there too.

The thugs at the table and the one watching the crate noticed me enter but aside from a short glance, they paid me no attention.

I continued following the second guy up the stairs and the first guy had just thrown open the door before storming inside to shout something at the person inside.

Two of the people downstairs looked up but then quickly lost interest and went back to doing what they were doing.

Alright… Now I have the place properly scouted out, I guess it’s time to work.
