[Active Skill - Sword Dash: Must have a sword equipped to use this skill. Gives user a focus meter that they can use to select targets to dash towards and strike with their sword to deal extreme damage. Focus meter will refill itself over time.]
As I thought, it was this skill that allowed him to kill those guys with one hit.
"Do you want this, Amber?" I asked.
"Bleh… No thanks. I think you are more suitable for this, Tera," She rejected the idea immediately.
Not sure why she would say that but ok I guess? Partly because I took his red sword as well and this game apparently allows you to dual wield weapons as well.
Heck, I don't even know why I never tried this but I could be dual wielding assault rifles from the start if I wanted to.
I guess it would be annoying to reload two assault rifles but it's still pretty cool I guess.
We were moving closer to the edge of the stands and I could see several of the teams were also slowly making their way to their own sections of the stadium, bringing us down to the final few teams that were fighting for the champion spot.
From here, I could see that there were five 'sections' of the stadium excluding our own that were cleared out by individual teams.
Two of them were solo teams, one of them was a duo while the last two had a full party of four members.
For now, it looked like we were all content to stay where we were until the circle started to close again.
We did a final inspection of our equipment before going through the plan once again.
"Ok… So the circle is going to start closing soon and we're going to want to be one of the last groups to move. We also don't want to be the last either so when at least two teams have gone, all of us will jump out except for Lea. You will stay here for as long as you can while healing yourself with the health crate Ries has spawned here in case of damage from the circle."
Lea nodded, shifting herself closer to the crate I had mentioned while holding on to her sniper rifle.
I turned to Amber, "You would be running along the perimeter of the field and taking out any teams that chose to remain behind while they are distracted shooting at the others."
She grinned, "Leave it to me!"
I then turned to Ries, "As for the both of us, we'll make our way towards the end circle and I'll cover your back while you cover my front. If I see an opportunity, I will drop an airstrike which should hopefully wipe out a squad on its own."
Ries made a show of pulling out the battery pack on her minigun to slam in a new one before giving me a thumbs up, "I've got you covered!"
I hefted my rifle, "We'll have to see how everything goes from there but if there's anyone remaining in the last circle, I would be making use of the new skill I got to clean up anyone else that's left."
All of them gave me a firm nod.
Right then, the circle started closing and I got up into a crouch, "Ready to win this?"
"Nyahahaha! Ready to shoot down some idiots for sure!" Ries laughed.
I peeked over the waist high wall that separated us from the stadium, expecting to see the other teams either making a rush towards the final circle on the field or opting to stay put.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
What surprised me was that the team that had two people leapt out from the stands, one of them literally rocketing through the air to fly towards the field with his partner holding on to his waist.
He dropped back down on the field and, upon landing, caused a circle of light to appear beneath his feet.
A wall then constructed itself in front of them in a semicircular shape, protecting them from any incoming fire.
As though that wasn't enough, the wall even had two mounted machine guns which the both of them immediately manned and started firing at the stands.
I was forced to duck behind cover as the bullets flew above my head, narrowly missing me.
Well fuck, guess those guys managed to get their hands on a skill that allowed to spawn in a fighting position… They must have already planned for this ahead of time.
Well too bad for them because I have a counter for it!
I waited for the shots to move away from my position before quickly popping out to use the airstrike skill, marking their location as the intended target before ducking back down again.
The card on my waist disappeared soon after, indicating that it was successfully activated.
Muahahaha! I knew this skill would be useful! You thought you were safe behind your wall? That doesn't protect you from what's coming from above!
I heard a low whine from above which I assumed must be the sound of them simulating an aircraft flying overhead to drop the payload.
Sure enough, I saw a trail descending from the sky that was headed directly towards the stadium.
The trail got closer and closer and I could now see that it was a missile that was dropped and headed straight towards my targeted location.
Let's see you hide from this one! Muahahaha!
I was just about to yell for everyone to take cover when an explosion rocked the stadium.
Eh?
Wait… That explosion happened way too early… And the direction of the explosion came from above…
I looked up again, only to see smoke coming from the edge of the stadium's roof that hung over the stadium's seating area.
…
Did the missile really hit that roof and exploded instead of actually hitting where I want it to hit?!
Fuuuuck!! What kind of useless skill is this?!!
There's so much space!! How the hell did you hit that?!! Arrrghhh!!!
Now how are we supposed to--
There was another explosion and I peeked over the wall to see someone had actually jumped over the ledge to land on the field.
I thought he had a death wish especially since both of the machine guns immediately turned towards him and started firing.
The guy quickly activated a skill which projected a silhouette of a figure out from his body which blocked the bullets from reaching him.
He then slowly floated up into the air and the light solidified and colour formed around the silhouette, revealing it to be a power armour.
Fuck! You can have a skill that spawns a power armour?! That's so unfair!!
The two machine guns continued to fire at him but they might as well be firing peashooters as the bullets bounced off the armour without leaving a scratch.
The guy then slowly started to trudge towards them, moving at a speed that was even slower than Ries.
Damn… Ok, I guess the drawback of that armour was that it's incredibly slow despite the defence it granted its user.
As though emboldened by this, the other solo guy also jumped out, only to disappear from sight as soon as he touched the ground.
Another guy with active camouflage I see…
The last two teams with four people each also jumped out, both teams landing beside each other.
I thought they might start fighting each other first but they not only did not fight amongst themselves, I saw a few of them actually tossing weapons or healing items to each other.
God damn it! Those two teams were actually working together! They definitely separated themselves into two teams with the intention of beating every other team using sheer numbers!
As though to further confirm that, one member from the left team threw something on the ground while another member from the other team threw the same thing but further away from them.
That 'something' turned out to be smoke grenades as both of them exploded into clouds of smoke, completely hiding both teams from view.
And because they were in between us and the other teams, the smoke cloud ended up blocking our view of the other side of the field as well, completely preventing us from shooting at anything while we were in the stands.
"Go, go! We have to go now!" I yelled.
If they were planning on overrunning the defensive position and taking it for themselves, we cannot stay here and let them take it or they would be able to just hide in there and let the circle kill us!
After all, we don't know for sure if they had more smoke grenades that they could use to hide themselves.
Argghhh!! All my plans turned out to be completely useless!
But if you think this is enough to defeat me, I'll show you we can still win despite all that!
Let's go, girls!! We can still win this yet!!
