Be careful who you trust with knowledge recently obtained
Discretion isn’t the least of the skills which you have trained
Remember that the System’s inner workings are unknown
Be careful not to make any of its problems your own
Hawk ignored the warnings of her helper as always
“We’re already working against it now anyways”
She’d come too far by now to leave a single stone unturned
And she would pay the price for any secrets she had learned
King Azure led her away from that glamourous room
To a cave entrance that opened with a heavy boom
They swam down through a complex maze of tunnels dark as night
Nothing but the magic spells they cast for any light
“By the way, how have all the humans been recently?
I’ll admit, a guest like you is very nice to see
Things have been so quiet for so long that I had feared
That maybe long ago the human race had disappeared”
“Far from it, we’ve done a little too well, to be fair
For centuries the surface hasn’t had a single scare
Our ancestors grew stronger than the portals monsters could
And started fighting each other, as many feared they would”
“That’s quite the tale, so are the humans all as strong as you?
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
Perhaps even this event is easy for you too?”
King Azure looked back with eyes that longed for a story
Perhaps even more keen than Hawk to seek a mystery

You’ve become excitable in old age, I must say
It’s been ages since adventure caught your eye this way
Maybe it is time that you retired and had some fun
Well, as soon as this portal apocalypse is done
“Fortunately, few have come to possess strength like mine
Otherwise the humans would be hard to keep in line
Across the globe, there may be several hundred like myself
The strongest that I know of is a very ancient elf”
King Azure smiled happily while they continued down
Laughing hard enough to nearly drop his heavy crown
“I forgot about the elves, so very odd a race
Since my father’s time they haven’t dared to show their face”
“Could you be referring to the ancient ocean war?
That drove the elves inland, those tales exist only in lore!”
Excited once again to hear of things she’d longed to know
More than her own magic, Hawk’s bright face began to glow
Unfortunately, they were interrupted soon after
Coming to a door that caused King Azure more laughter
Several guards were standing there to block the ancient gate
The king seemed unsurprised to find the guards lying in wait
“King Azure, you know that even you can’t go inside
The oracles were very clear on that last time you tried
Not enough time has passed since the holy relic spoke
It may be a bad omen that such a thing awoke”
King Azure held up his hands as if to surrender
But Hawk could recognize the actions of a pretender
Before the guards had noticed, he had cast a little spell
Hawk was quite impressed to see him cast the spell so well
“That’s a type of magic humans struggle to master
It was lost to use after an ancient disaster”
“I wish you wouldn’t call me ancient, it’s a humble trick
At most, when they wake up they may just feel a little sick”
Hawk and King Azure swam by the sleeping guards quickly
Then the king began to turn a door handle slowly
“I wish I had more knowledge of those new portals to share
But such an event isn’t something of which I’m aware”
He looked at Hawk with sorry eyes, but then he smiled again
“Luckily, I am of the most well acquainted men
The portal event seems to have stirred something from its sleep
Let’s see if there’s any secrets such a thing would keep”
Hawk had no idea of what the king was speaking
But her instincts told her it was something worth seeking
“Take me to this relic then, you say that it can talk?”
“Yes, although until today, we thought it just a rock”
The door opened, revealing a strange little room of stone
Where inside just a single pedestal stood alone
On it was a rock, not much unlike an uncut gem
But she knew right away, the rock had noticed both of them
Core Message
Two visitors at the same time, it’s my lucky day
I hope this time I say something, you don’t run away
That was very rude, to wake me up then close the door
Soon I may not even feel like talking anymore
