They landed in the capital with a resounding bang
The shock of their landing was such that nearby bells all rang
No castle guards were brave enough to stop them at the door
Warned by old guards who had seen the couple before
They came before the king who looked at them with greedy eyes
A look which came to neither of the pair as a surprise
“Tell us what you want your royal pain in our asses
Is the empire back or maybe monsters in masses?”

To anyone who dares appraise the status of this mage
Be careful that you don’t attract her interest or her rage
She’s proven time and time again that she won’t be outclassed
Disregard whatever levels you may have amassed
Such words from any other woman in the king’s throne room
Would have led their speaker to their short and timely doom
But Hawk unleashed an aura that spoke to her awesome strength
And few desired the meeting to extend to a great length

Willing to do anything to keep stability
Unsettled by the fact that there’s a fate that gods can’t see
“I’ve summoned you because there is a peace we must preserve
And peace in this great kingdom is the purpose which you serve
You may have been in hiding, but you best make no mistake
You were raised to such great heights for this great kingdom’s sake”

Those who haven’t heard of Oak have heard of what he’s done
With his arcane arrows he could blacken out the sun
Just be thankful he’s polite enough to give warning
But be cautioned, he has had a quite stressful morning
The air was tense as Oak began to radiate contempt
A pressure from which not even the great king was exempt
“We know you’ve heard the gods are nervous of what is to come
If you want advice then we’ll be glad to give you some
But we are not obliged to be your personal heroes
This is just a freelance job, and we’ll see how it goes
Mightn’t it be prudent that you tell us what you know?
If you’ve nothing you can offer, we may as well go”
Oak and Hawk began to turn their backs upon the king
The king was so enraged that both his ears began to ring
“Stop you fools, I know the power balance of this land
I hesitated calling you, but you must understand
Things are not like in the past when monsters made us strong
Now it seems the world has been at peace for far too long
The empire and the southern tribes are in a restless state
Our kingdom could erode if all we do is sit and wait”
Hawk turned round and laughed with a tone sinister and cold
“Isn’t that the finest fairy tale that you have told
You would have us go and conquer foreign lands for you
But having done that once, it isn’t some that we’ll do”
“I assure you, this is not about launching a war
This world’s threats are not the only problem anymore
Lend us both your wisdom in determining the cause
Help us once again to unravel natural laws”
Oak’s face suddenly brightened when he heard what he said
“You’re saying that the library is where we’ll fight instead?
Why didn’t you say so, we’ll get to it right away!
Take us to the ancient tomes, we mustn’t waste the day!”
Achievement: Scary Scholar
Oak, I’m glad you settled for the royal library
The empire isn’t ready for a mage so scholarly
To think you likely planned this situation from your start
Were you born with reading glasses in place of your heart?
The king hunched over in his chair relieved the deal was made
He knew that the monsters before him could not be paid
They had helped secure his power before they vanished
But he had no choice to leave them alone as they wished
“Tell me one thing before you get lost in some old book
Do you know about the boy who caught the System’s look?”
The king and everyone immediately felt a chill
And Hawk’s expression look like it had the power to kill
“Best you don’t go chasing rumours of the System child
You know it is dangerous when such rumours run wild
We’ll see what we find that could explain the gods’ worries
But we cannot protect you from that child’s mother with ease”
Oak and Hawk were led to the library right away
The throne room and its occupants then found the strength to say
“Did you say that there’s a village full of folks like that?”
“Heroes like those should be serving our king in combat!”
“Hush you fools, they’re far away for good reasons and such
That village is full of people who break the things they touch”
“Yes, I’ve heard that they alone protect the west frontier
Taking care of more than half the portals that appear”
“All of them were simply too strong for us to control
You young folks might not know, but they could eat this kingdom whole”
“Indeed, best leave them to their own devices while there’s peace
Though I fear we’ll need them if the portals do increase”
The king was just about to speak while straightening his back
When suddenly he heard the bell that signalled an attack
A guard ran in to report, on his face was shock and fright
“I must report, the sky suddenly turned as black as night!”
