CHAPTER SIXTY ONE
The chaos of the world according to a small village
~
A village full of heroes stronger than the average knight
Tired of politics and war but ready for a fight
Long had it been home to weary travellers and such
Those who didn’t care for royal commissions too much
It was only luck that Hawk and Oak were found at last
And when they were, the letter for them had been sent out fast
But if the king knew how many of his heroes lived there
He would likely fall off of his gold-encrusted chair

A loyal servant of the king with confused by what he sees
A village in a forest that has more monsters than trees
In his life of service he’s met many a hero
But now the world seems bigger than it did a week ago
“Roy, you were apprenticed only recently, weren’t you?
Have you ever met a royal sorcerer or two?”
Neil was sitting on a wooden chair and half asleep
The children’s pace was getting harder for the man to keep
“Yes, but as you’re likely thinking, they were not like this

Power like these villagers have would be hard to miss
Every name in every status box is quite well known
You could take the empire on with this village alone!”

Roy is well intentioned but his resolve is still weak
He has yet to decide on a worthy path to seek
But he’ll never want for the support of gods like me
One day his ambitions will unlock his destiny
“Indeed, this village seems to be the place where they retire
Some of them we thought were dead or ran to the empire”
Neil massaged his head while trying to block out the noise
Finally left alone by those monstrous girls and boys
“We must tell the king that all these heroes now hide here
If they served him, the capital need not ever fear”
Roy still had two toddlers clinging to his neck and feet
But even the young man’s stamina would soon deplete
“When we have the chance we’ll get back as soon as we can
But for now, it’s difficult to make that sort of plan
As much as it is worth our lives to bring this knowledge back
If we leave too soon, we might not survive this attack”
The children kept on playing together without a care
Happy to ride out the monster battle, safe in there
One boy stood in silence though, before the wooden door
Deep in thought with both feet planted firmly on the floor

A boy whose path has many pitfalls yet to overcome
One who never finds a challenge troublesome
Bide your time until you can prepare to do your part
Before risking your life you must train your mind and heart
The other children left Pebble alone while they all played
He was angry at the little progress he had made
But his class required he take the front lines to grow strong
So he’d need to prepare, or he wouldn’t last for long
Tempted though he was to race into the battlefield
He knew he’d only find injuries that could not be healed
At least he found some purpose in defending that one door
Listening as his parents did their part in the war
