CHAPTER SIXTY THREE
The Oceans hold their fair share of mysteries after all
~
Hawk flew quickly over the great sea to the empire
Somewhere she had not been since deciding to retire
She wondered if the emperor would still remember her
And if she’d be welcomed or treated as an invader
Even far above the open ocean as she flew
The number of new portals opening up quickly grew
Every now and then she passed through the odd monster swarm
But the work that it took to kill them barely kept her warm
She was surprised that in the ocean when she strained her eyes
There several portals underwater of great size
Normally, sea monsters were quite uncommon to see
She’d have to make sure to give warning to the king’s navy
She wanted badly to discuss the pages she had read
As her guardian deity did, but like Oak said
They couldn’t always count on the System looking away
So gods and mortals both would have to watch the things they say

I’ll try to restore a balance to your status screen
But you should be careful now if you know what I mean

What I’ve done upsets the balance of the world you’re in
Who knows if some other problems will shortly begin
“I’m starting to believe you gods are weaker than you seem
Aren’t you supposed to possess the strength of which we dream?
It almost sounds like you are simply playing fate by ear
Are the roles of gods and goddesses no longer clear?
Achievement: Keen Observation
It’s no wonder you soon earned the title All Seeing
Though your words are hurtful, I find myself agreeing
Though us guardians don’t claim omnipotence these days
Normally we do foresee your fates in many ways
“Why be so conservative with what you then reveal?
Couldn’t you have done more to prevent this whole ordeal?”
Hawk hid her delight at her god’s new found will to talk
Most gods were just about as talkative as a rock
Achievement: A Question of Order
For thousands of years we have aided mortals in their lives
Rewarding every child who tries and every knight that strives
But if we did more than bolster the strength you mortals earn
The System has been clear that the resulting world would burn
“So you’re allowed to grant rewards but not detailed advice
And mortals, for the most part, are left to their own device
Where did you gods come from by the way, if you don’t mind
I’d appreciate more knowledge, if you’d be so kind”
Achievement: Taboo
Unfortunately that is where this conversation ends
You need not know about where I’m from, or my godly friends
I may be known as the God of Wisdom, this is true
But I had to find my own answers, the same as you
Hawk was unsurprised but disappointed all the same
But the truth of the world was a fearsome beast to tame
In the end, the mystery of it did sound like fun
Though she did have one more question before she was done
“There is just one final thing I want to hear from you
Some say Twig is related to all this, is it true?
Did he do something to set these events in motion
Have you spoken to his god about the commotion?”
Achievement: Heavenly Mysteries
If I knew the answers, I would never speak of it
But no gods I know have found that god, I must admit
It’s uncertain if he’s in the realm of gods or not
As for Twig, it’s hard to understand the young boy’s lot
The flying mage just sighed at the God of Wisdom’s reply
Then noticed something interesting while flying through the sky
Deep beneath the ocean’s surface there were flashing lights
Which reminded her of the spells used by magic knights
She dove beneath the surface to inspect the flashing’s source
Casting a new breathing spell as a matter of course
And when she saw the source of all the strange magical light
She couldn’t help but laugh for it was such a great delight
An army was engaged in war with terrible portal monsters
Creatures that she’d heard about that hunted the waters
Rare enough that only vague descriptions could be found
No knowledge survived in any books the whole world round
But here before her now was almost too good to be true
There were things she’d heard of there and unknown monsters too
But even more exciting was that the monsters now fought
A race of warriors long extinct, or so she had thought
