CHAPTER XV: MINI-BOSS

LONG BEACH

PRIME

Colonel was launched through the portal at great speed tackling the ghoul that was just on top of Soto.

As he and the ghoul rolled off of Soto in a bundle of arms and legs, Soto got up and grabbed his bow. He rose to his feet just as the ghoul easily overpowered Colonel. Soto readied an arrow from his quiver knowing that he had to react quickly to save his friend's life. But he was still from the Bronx so he couldn’t just save his life without giving him some shit first.

“Welcome back sweetheart. Do you mind telling me where the fuck you have been?”

The scene surrounding the discombobulated Colonel could only be described as pandemonium.

Clyde looked at his time stamp to see how many minutes he had been missing.

‘What the hell? Three months? What the...’

His thoughts were cut off by pain, more pain than he had ever felt in his life. Clyde’s mind was racing trying to figure out what to do.

“Oh for fuck sake!” Sugar said, “Boys are hella dumb, do I have to do everything?”

[Get em’ mom] Kuma cheered.

“I’ll take anyone’s help right now!” Clyde pleaded as he tried and failed to fight off the powerful ghoul.

“Void Bolt!” Sugar yelled as a small ball of black energy hit the lesser Ghoul at the side of the head pushing it back enough for an arrow from Soto to slam into its eye and bounce off.

Much to everyone’s shock the Ghoul wasn’t dead. Or even injured a little.

“Fuck!” All of the teammates say in unison

Colonel shared the creatures Character Sheet from his Analyze.

“Shit a mini-boss! What is with DR, and level 29 sheesh.” Soto said almost academically.

“Can you get this damn thing off of me?” Colonel asked exasperated.

“What the fuck do you think I am doing?” Soto retorted.

“FOCUS SHOT!”

“VOID BOLT!”

A sound of breaking glass was heard by Colonel just as a blue film around the lesser ghoul shattered. The ghoul now had an arrow sticking out of its temple, black blood spraying from the wound.

As soon as the blue film had broken his Find weakness Skill kicked in with red arrows and target icons. Colonel’s right arm was free so he used it to hit the front side elbow of the ghoul's other hand holding him down. It buckled, and he was able to buck his hips throwing the Ghoul off of him while rolling away from the mini-boss. Not before the black blood landed on him though, some even getting in his mouth.

Colonel didn’t have to be a mathematician to see his death coming. He was less concerned for himself than he was for his teammates. The mini-boss had taken two more arrows, as well as another Void Bolt to the face. The damn thing was still unfazed glaring at Colonel as if he was the one that hurt it.

Then Kuma in Battle form latched onto her arm. At first, Colonel thought that Kuma was going to rip it off, but the constitution of the ghoul must be ridiculous, nothing compared to her strength.

With a flex of a rotted arm and a black bloody smile, the ghoul grabbed Kuma with its other hand, and before anyone could react she tore Battle Kuma in half. It happened so quickly that she didn’t even make a sound. She just dissolved into black light.

Sugar grabbed her head as the backlash of her pet being killed so violently hit her. She fell to her knees, blood trickling down her nose.

Soto looked on in horror, absolutely flabbergasted that the game would show such a disgusting scene.

And the Colonel... well the Colonel was seeing red. He just reacted.

< SKILL-SET LEVEL UP X9 >

The first punch broke the knuckles on his left hand, but he hardly felt it, the focused anger making him numb to the pain. His right hook hit the shoulder joint as the Ghoul adjusted to Colonel’s speed. But that was when the bonus effect from his skill-set came into effect.

The shoulder in question was torn free from the ghoul surprising it before the third punch hit it in the face knocking it back. Colonel kept the pressure up hitting the Ghoul six more times before it caught his left jab, with a lucky grab.

The ghoul smiled at Colonel as a cat would smile at a mouse caught in a mouse trap. That smile quickly turned to shock when Colonel twisted his body around so fast that his arm breaks in two places. He used the momentum to swing his leg around and heel-kick the ghoul with such force the bottom jaw of the now blood covered ghoul was ripped off.

[DUCK!] Soto said through team speak.

Decades of training and repetition cannot be overridden by anger. Colonel ducked as an arrow slammed into the back of the throat of the Ghoul’s mangled mouth.

BOOM!

The explosion threw both the ghoul and Colonel back from each other.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Soto yelled.

Colonel didn’t even have to guess what Soto meant, not getting a kill notice made it obvious that the fight was far from over.

[It's regenerating Colonel get out of there] Soto said in a panic.

The Narrator started “But they both knew he wasn’t going to do no such thing. Clyde had barely a few seconds to live. But he was going to kill this Lesser ghoul if it was the last thing he did in this life.

“He got to his feet and sprinted at the ghoul whose body was stitching itself back together. It turned dirty milky white eyes on the Legacy and scowled its discontent. It was ready for him, but the Colonel didn’t care, he knew one day he would either die on the battlefield or be an immortal or both. Old age wasn’t for people like him. People who put others ahead of themselves. A person who fights for those who can’t, or worse won’t fight for themselves. No, Clyde wasn’t afraid to die, he was afraid of living a life without purpose, and as he ran at this walking nightmare of a mini-boss. He could only think to himself.”

‘I have lived a good life, I have done many great things. I have loved, lost, and loved again, now, it is up to you Soto. Goodbye Miriam, Goodbye Domenica. Daddy loves you both...’

“But death was not his destiny today, because he made a new friend, and she was angry, really fucking angry.”

“VOID BOLT!”

“VOID BOLT!”

“VOID BOLT!”

“VOID BOLT!”

Four black bolts of energy slam into the ghoul’s semi-repaired skin burning it. The ghoul turned, and looked at the tear streak face of the Druid in shock.

That was enough, Colonel plowed into the surprised Lesser ghoul mini boss picking her up and jumping into a fire pit both of them catching on fire. No matter how strong and powerful you are, physics is still undefeated.

Colonel rolled out of the flames putting himself out.

“YES!” Clydel yelled through a hoarse dry mouth. The sweet feeling of experience and stats being allocated, not to mention not dying was an awesome feeling. He took a double take. He didn’t remember having that much EXP before he left, but he had been gone three months.

The area was clear short of the homeless people who were all hiding as far away from them while still around their fires. He looked towards Soto and saw him flop to the ground exhausted from the intense fight. He looked at Sugar as she passed out.

_____________________________________________________________

< ALERT >

{Sugar is suffering from a severe Mana headache. She has fainted from the pain.}

Soto chuckled. “That chick is hardcore man.” He couldn’t help himself, he was just so tired, the whole thing was just funny to him. Colonel smiled as well. “Another one down Sergeant Major, another one down.”

“Hell yeah, sir.” Soto said with a big grin, “And I just leveled to nine in both my classes, damn, that felt good. Really good. Next, I can specialize.”

Clyde agreed, he was on death’s door, but now he felt amazing his arm and hand were still really sore, but at least it was recovering as he reset the bones. The pain was a bit much, but with the level up he felt like he was on painkillers, weak ones though.

Clyde’s HUD was lit up like a Christmas tree, which also distracted from the pain. He had no idea where to start. But he had to clear it up before it got distracting in the middle of a fight.

Clyde loved the Skill-Set before, and it even leveled up quickly. He guessed that it was because he was fighting a monster twenty times his level. The Skill quest was timely as well. The game was clearly reading his intentions which he didn’t know how, but was pretty happy with the results.

Clyde looked at his updated Skill-Set.

Clyde's eyes widen at both novice effects, they were unbelievable. He shared it with Soto whose eyes also flew open.

“Bro that is ridiculous.” Soto started with a smile then he started to frown. “You probably got a ton of prompts to go through, but first can you tell me what the fuck is this? Officers leave them for five minutes, and they take us into multiversal war now.” He shook his head ruefully.

Clyde looked at prompt and he almost cried, he had thought it was a dream.
