THE VOID

SUGAR

Sugar stepped through the Dungeon exit when she felt a bout of vertigo. It came and went quickly but she did feel it... then before she was sitting in a white chair in a pitch-black room. She tried to look around the room, but the only light in the room was generated from the chair.

She had already thought she would die in this ‘game’, multiple times, so now that she didn’t have any control nothing affected her nearly as much as before. The Druid just sat patiently waiting for her death or whatever the Game threw at her now. She was tired of being scared.

“That’s the attitude you need to be great.” A sultry voice from all around her said startling her. She was about to get up from the chair when the next words froze her. “The chair is your anchor to the Void young one, if you get off and lose it, you will be stuck here forever, and as much as I want company, I must inform you that without a True Class, you can’t live in the Void.”

Sugar grabbed the chair and held it tight not wanting to literally be lost in the void. “Thank you, ma’am. What can I do you for?” Sugar realized that her team Ranger was right and even if it was the real world the game elements were also real, may as well embrace them, and get some quests while she was at it.

The entire Void around her seemed to approve of her question. “While your Class is a Tier 4 Spec that leads to a True Class, it shouldn’t have been awarded at Tier 1, it should have been available to you at Tier 2 at the earliest, but your Secondary personality just took the default Spec for you, don’t let that happen again, you may gimp your character foundation. I need you to take the True Class at Tier 3 so that I can offer you another quest.”

“Another quest?” Sugar asked when she got a prompt forced to her HUD and vision.

< YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED A QUEST >

{Quest Name: The Void I

Quest Type: True Class(Void Chain)

Quest Tier: Platinum

Description: A Class is not just a part of a player’s build, it is the most direct path to power in the GREAT GAME. As Classes get more powerful the Player also gains tremendous power that grows exponentially as they tier up. At each Tier up to Tier 5, classes get Class Spells which are magical powers that are branches of the Class. While Class Spells are created to work in conjunction with classes, a true class spell can out-level the class. That is just one of the many small benefits of earning a True Class, but the main benefit was the access to the Tier 5 Pool of -WILL-. The new pool will not only augment all of the player’s spells and other skills semi-passively, but it will give the player limited Idiosyncratic Manipulation, at the peak of this Manipulation a player should have full Kinetic control over any of their own belongings. True Classers can walk on the Sky-road.

Requirements: Gain a True Class.

Objective 1: Level up to Tier 5(Waived).

Objective 2: Clear race quest(Waived).

Objective 3: Meet the Stat Prerequisite Waived).

Objective 4: Choose a True Class(0/1)

Time limit: None.

Rewards: EXPERIENCE, True Class, 100 Skill points, 1000 free stats, The Void II.

Failure penalty: No Path Forward.}

_____________________________________________________________

“Okay, that’s easy enough. I will do that as soon as I have the EXP to do it. Sick, a True class sounds cool.” She said a little excited in the dark.

A Cheshire grin came from in front of her as a mouth the size of a house smiled, then spoke. “You should do that.” The same female voice said to her. “You should do it now young one.”

Sugar was confused, but didn’t want to show her ignorance, one of her flaws in her short life that she wanted to work on in this new world, but now wasn’t the time. Then she paused that line of thinking. ‘When will it ever be the right time.’ She smiled back at the door-sized rows of teeth. “What do you mean Ma’am?”

The smile grew bigger at the respect being shown to her. Sugar could see car-sized eyes that were black, blue, and silver mandalas where the irises would be if the Teeth and mouth were proportioned to a human face. The mandalas spun slowly as the being looked at Sugar in her white chair uncomfortably. “Level up and then specialize.” She said matter-of-factly after about thirty seconds of silence. The voice was a little less serious when it said the next part. “Make sure you choose the true path this time. It will be available with all of your achievements.” Then the smile and eyes disappear leaving Sugar to her thoughts.

She could still feel the presence there, but the pure darkness of the void made the place feel empty. ‘Okay.’ She let out a breath she hadn’t even known she was holding. Then she listened to the powerful voice, then leveled up, and looked at the new prompts.

Sugar looked at her Top Sheet before moving on to the specialization. She was happy with her mental stats growing but surprised by her physical stats. She really didn’t want to be one-shotted again, as she had almost been at the hands of Lizette, so she was ecstatic to have the extra physical attributes.

There were some changes that she hadn’t looked over yet. Both of her new titles and he new Skill from the Tome. Sugar smirked as she looked at the Titles.

< STEEL PAN MELODY >

{YOU HAVE EARNED A TITLE}

{TITLE NAME: Undead Bane(P)

TITLE TIER: Platinum(UPGRADABLE)

DESCRIPTION: Every beast and monster has a bane, it is what balances them. While beasts and monsters level up in unique ways, they all have a weakness that can be exploited once a player learns it. Because of the sheer amount of undead you and your party were responsible for killing, you have earned this Title.

TITLE EFFECT: Mark gain; Undead bane Mark

Rare Bonus: Stat gain; +3 to Physical stats per level times T(Where T is Tier of the Player)

Platinum Bonus: EXP gain; 40% bonus EXP per tier from killing Undead.}

_____________________________________________________________

Well, that explained where she got the extra physical stats from. That bonus alone had given her over 80 stats in the 9 levels. The stats being applied felt amazing, but not as amazing as it was in the Dungeon. Don’t get her wrong it still felt better than eating your favorite meal, and having amazing makeup coitus combined, but Sugar was focused on doing what the being around her had told her to do. Yeah, she was convinced she was in this beings realm or something because every piece of the darkness felt like her. What Sugar didn’t know, but became common knowledge over time, was that as a player tiered up they become more sensitive to Mana in the environment, but they also can use their tier 5 energy to manipulate the mana around them in unique ways, and that was what she was feeling.

Not knowing that information yet, she just continued doing what she could to advance the knowledge she did have. Her team Tool Tip still worked which was a blessing because she had no idea what the hell a Mark was.

_____________________________________________________________

< TOOL TIP >

{MARKS}

{Marks are a sign that a player is exceptional at something in the GREAT GAME. Marks come in all shapes and sizes, they usually give flat bonuses to the player based on the type of mark earned.}

_____________________________________________________________

{Mark Name: Undead bane II

Mark Type: Bane Mark

Effect 1: Do true damage to Undead creatures bypassing any defensive power. (100 Undead over two tiers above you killed) Undead the player Tier and below feel more pain from your attacks and have a chance to turn Undead which instantly vaporizes the Undead.

Effect 2: All damage against the Undead is Critical Damage. All damage against the Living Dead is greatly increased. (1000 Undead over two tiers above you killed.) Undead a Tier above the player and below feel more pain from your attacks and have a chance to turn Undead, which instantly vaporizes the Undead.

This narrative has been purloined without the author's approval. Report any appearances on Amazon.

Effect 3: LOCKED(Kill 10000 undead at least one tier above you. 3550/10000 killed)}

{For being the one of first to earn this mark you have been gifted 10 skill points.}

_____________________________________________________________

And that explained where she got some of her skill points from. Wait, no it doesn’t she didn’t even look at her skill points, she was thinking about the free stats section. She may as well look up the number.

_____________________________________________________________

{Skill points: 17.5}

{Would you like to enter the skill Store? Be advised Commoners on the Classer path should choose a Profession before accessing the skill Store.}

_____________________________________________________________

“Nope!” She had to stop herself from getting distracted. This game can overwhelm you with prompts if you let it. She would figure out a profession when she got a chance, now was not the time. She looked at the Hero title and was very pleased with it.

_____________________________________________________________

< STEEL PAN MELODY >

{CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE EARNED A TITLE}

{TITLE NAME: Hero

TITLE TIER: Platinum(UPGRADABLE)

DESCRIPTION: While fear might just be in the mind, heroes are not fearless, they face fear when they are needed. For protecting homeless people who truly couldn’t do anything for you, while putting your life on the line multiple times, even almost giving it up once, you have earned the title of Hero.

TITLE EFFECT: Stat gain; +1 to Intelligence, Charisma, and Luck times Tier (At Tier 3)

RARE BONUS: Void burn; The damage of the void-based attacks is more potent. All void-based powers add a corrosive destructive debuff.

PLATINUM BONUS: 40% Chance of getting new Quests and Events available to you. They appear on your map and mini-map. (When applicable).

_____________________________________________________________

She smiled at the second Title bigger than the first. Even though the stats seemed like less it wasn’t. She would be getting less for the third tier, but much more for the fourth, and so on. She also had a chance to add debuffs to her enemies, but only in void-based powers. She currently only had one of those, if she didn’t count Kuma...and of course, now she was worried about Kuma. The small panic that had started to rise slowly went away as she felt a pulse of love coming from the inside of her. It was Kuma reassuring her.

“Okay,” He huffed, I am ready to specialize.” A prompt met her vision at those words.

_____________________________________________________________

LEVEL: 19 EXP to next specialization 0/40000-200000

{Would you like to Specialize?

YES/NO TOUCH ONE}

_____________________________________________________________

There was something that bothered her a little the Mage+ Spec had a number in front of it all of a sudden. She looked at her Spec and to her surprise the tool tip prompted her with some very useful information.

_____________________________________________________________

< TOOL TIP >

{Your Class has been maxed out at this Tier, while you have met the prerequisite to advance to the next Class Tier, doing so will increase the cost of leveling your first specialization, and must be leveled before the player can level the second specialization. The benefits of leveling specializations are upgraded Spells at the very least. The other benefits must be discovered and changed per spec, race, class, and caste.}

_____________________________________________________________

“Oh, I almost missed out on some benefits there.” She moved some of her Free EXP to her spec. The number changed.

(0/200)

She smiled. “Good, it’s cheap.”

“The cheaper the spec, the cheaper it is to level up, but the stat gain and spells are not as potent.” The voice helpfully added.

“I am guessing there is a balance there like we need a certain amount of stats to advance a tier?” Sugar probed the voice.

“Correct.” Was the only answer she got.

She thought about asking the question in another way, but she saw the futility in asking the Void a question when she knew no answer was forthcoming. Instead, she looked at how the level up to the spec affected her spells.

_____________________________________________________________

< MAGE SPELLS UPDATED >

{Lesser Fire Bolt (Active) A piece of concentrated fire the size of a golf ball.

Cast Time: Instant, Cost: 11-13 mana. Damage 34-40 + I (where I is intelligence). Range: 24 meters. Cool down: 5 seconds. Requirements: Chant and hand gesture

Cast Time: instant. Cost:29-39 Mana. Damage:68-78 + I where I is intelligence. Range: 90 meters. Cool down: 3 seconds. Requirements: Chant}

_____________________________________________________________

Already she loved leveling up her specialization. It added a little more damage to all of her attacks and even made her heal much better. Even taking into account the level-ups from class levels the increases from the Mage+ Spec were awesome for the price.

She leveled again and frowned.

(0/400)

“Does it double every level?” She thought out loud and got an answer for some reason.

“Yes specialization EXP cost doubles per level, it is why most don’t choose the higher Specs cause the leveling cost alone would be astronomical.” The voice stated.

She looked at updated spells to see the difference between the levels.

_____________________________________________________________

< MAGE SPELLS UPDATED >

{Lesser Fire Bolt (Active) A piece of concentrated fire the size of a golf ball.

Cast Time: Instant, Cost: 11-14 mana. Damage 35-42 + I. Range: 30 meters. Cool down: 5 seconds. Requirements: Chant and hand gesture

Lesser Ice Shard (Active): A dagger-sized piece of ice.

Cast Time: 2 seconds Cost:15-17 mana. Damage: 34-41 + I and 12% chance of slow. Range: 30 meters. Cool down: N/A. Requirements: Chant and hand gesture

Cast Time: instant. Cost:29-39 Mana. Damage:68-78 + I. Range: 100 meters. Cool down: 3 seconds. Requirements: Chant}

_____________________________________________________________

So the change was a little more subtle just a flat increase in range on all of them and a minuscule increase on her damage on a few. She now understood a little what the prompt about the leveling meant. The upgraded spells were the minimum, but the updates were minimal as well, but still added up over time. She was going to finish this.

Sugar just ripped off the bandaid and spent the 132,000 EXP to Max out the Spec she got two very welcomed prompts her spells really did update quite a lot, was the first.

_____________________________________________________________

< MAGE SPELLS UPDATED >

{Minor Fire Bolt (Active) A piece of concentrated fire up to the size of a tennis ball.

Cast Time: Instant, Cost: 11-30 mana. Damage 35-100 + I. Range: 80 meters. Cool down: 5 seconds. Requirements: chant and hand gesture.

Minor Ice Shard (Active): A short sword-sized piece of ice.

Cast Time: 2 seconds Cost:15-35 mana. Damage: 34-94 + I and 20% chance of slow. Range: 30 meters. Cool down: N/A. Requirements: chant and hand gesture

Lesser Void Regeneration (Active): Accelerate the regeneration of other creatures using the power of the Void.

Minor Void Bolt: A tennis ball-sized bolt of concentrated dark and death mana. Targets hit by bolts have their health regen Minorly slowed.

Cast Time: instant. Cost:29-50 Mana. Damage:68-175 + I. Range: 180 meters. Cool down: 3 seconds. Requirements: chant}

_____________________________________________________________

The range of damage gave her more options even within the same Spells and the actual range of all of them were massive improvements. The Regeneration alone was transformed from touching a person to anyone within an area around her. She was pretty sure it wasn’t going to be simple to use, but she would learn it, so she could heal her teammates.

The second prompt was the bonus a player got for maxing out their Spec.

_____________________________________________________________

< SPECIALIZATION MAXED >

{For reaching level 10 in your Spec +10 skill points & +10 to all attributes expect magic.}

_____________________________________________________________

The stats were awesome, but she was even more ecstatic about the skill points. She hadn’t been to the skill store yet but she planned to look at the options as soon as she had a chance to sit down. As much as she believed the game was real, she was still a Gamer so she was still excited about progression.

_____________________________________________________________

{Skill points: 27.5}

{Would you like to enter the skill Store? Be advised Commoners on the Classer path should choose a Profession before accessing the skill Store.}

_____________________________________________________________

She took a deep breath and ignored the prompt. She was not about to be distracted. There was a new prompt that popped up that she hadn’t seen before. It was a Quest prompt but it had a capital R behind it. She mentally clicked it.

< YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED A QUEST >

Sugar smiled at the quest, then it changed in front of her very eyes, she had never seen a prompt do that.

_____________________________________________________________

She didn’t know if she completed it because it was waived from her True Class quest, or if she had completed it before she leveled, a lot of the objectives seem to be the kind you would have done by the time you get to this level. Little did Sugar know most humans struggle to get Titles and try to avoid creatures above their tier. So until major events, most humans in early Period worlds were stuck at 19 if they wanted a perfect spec. She got a familiar prompt.

_____________________________________________________________

{Skill points: 40.5}

{Would you like to enter the skill Store? Be advised Commoners on the Classer path should choose a Profession before accessing the skill Store.}

_____________________________________________________________

“No! Would you stop that jeez?” She was over the skill store, and she hadn’t even been there yet. She looked at her new race prompt.

_____________________________________________________________

< RACE EVOLVED >

{Enhanced Gaian Human: Humans are the most abundant sapient younger race in the multiverse. They are some of the easiest beings to make in the Goldilocks zone of any solar system. An enhanced human leans in on all of the strengths of humans and tries to mitigate the weaknesses. Enhance humans get more out of their stats and attacks while doubling the longevity for every Tier upgrade. (retrograded)}

{+10 to all stats but magic and +.11 to magic, Evolved Mark.}

_____________________________________________________________

She was a little taken aback at the shared amount of stats, especially the magic stat which hurt a lot but came and went very quickly. She smiled at her new mark. It was a Vitruvian man that glowed gold on her olive skin. “Two in one day got to love it.”

_____________________________________________________________

{Mark Name: Evolved Mark

Mark Type: Evolution

Effect 1: Enhanced based on Periods or Eras the multiplier on Pools is based on tier. For example, if you have 1000 MP at Tier 4 in the Common Period once the period changes to Uncommon Base Humans see no change while Enhanced Human’s MP will go up to 2000, at the same time, when the same person is in the Epic Period their pool would go up to 4000, but once that player rises to Tier 5 there pool will all rise to 5000.

{For being the one of first 10 to earn this mark you have been gifted 101.5 skill points.}

_____________________________________________________________

“Stop.” She tried before she got the pop-up, but the system prompts didn’t care.

_____________________________________________________________

{Skill points: 142}

{Would you like to enter the skill Store? Be advised Commoners on the Classer path should choose a Profession before accessing the skill Store.}

_____________________________________________________________

She looked at her new Specialization Table with glee, rubbing her hands together.
