Chapter 25: The Capital

025 - The Capital and preparation for school

Nearly a year later, with many derivations from our planned way, we finally arrived at the capital city of the demon lands, where the school I would attend stood.

The town itself didn’t differentiate much from the others, same slums on the outskirts and parted into trade, fun and living districts in the middle while the centre was occupied by the royal palace and the school.

After finding me a decent inn, we parted quickly, and with many tears spilled, leaving behind the promise to meet again someday. When we completed the quest at the guild hall we even registered each other as ‘friends’ and as such were allowed to know each others position and current mission.

Over that year I had learned to control my magic quite nicely, and wasn’t about to excessively use magic any more, even if I wished I could use my mana better. The memories in the halo didn’t help much with that, but I had discovered a ‘map’ function, that allowed me to save the roads I had walked and surroundings and maps I had seen as a big picture I could revisit any time.

By helping with so many quests I also had gained a guild level, becoming a E-Rank in escort, adventurer and headhunter, even if I did nothing myself.

Lae and the others had insisted that I would accept the missions with them, and actually planned to let me try myself, but they had doted on me so much by that point that it had become impossible for them to let me fight.

The day afterwards I searched the town for an examination office, where people were tested if they would get a scholarship or were even accepted as student.

The school itself had been built to find the most promising individuals after all, and so everyone could enter if they had enough talent...or money.

Testing was a available during the whole year to reduce waiting times, and so I could start after only an hour waiting time.

The first test was simple: general knowledge.

As I had read so many books, and even had the knowledge from the halo if I would think about accessing it, I could easily ace this test.

The next one was either a physical or a magic test, depending on your own choice. I obviously picked the magic one.

Like a cliche I was led into a small chamber with a ‘magic identification crystal’, that would make everybody able to view the ‘magic’-part of my status, and a supervisor that would write down the result and obviously earn tons of money to sell the information he got about somebody’s rivals kids.

As if trying to fit the image, my supervisor was a slightly fat old man clad in expensive robes and staring at me with a greedy smile.

Already thinking about who to sell my beauty to? - Disgusting.

Not wanting to be in this man’s presence any more I quickly moved towards the crystal and touching it with one finger, loosing my already barely existing control over magic and blowing that thing up, scattering the fragments away from me, burying them into the opposing wall and injuring the severely frightened old man.

Serves you right, for looking at me like that!

Leaving the mess for somebody else to clean, I left this test and was told to come again tomorrow to hear the results of my test.

Then i remembered that I could have entered as Ria’s slave, but after breaking that collar, this course of action would have been idiotic, only leading towards me being captured again.

Okay, blowing up that testing ball with pure magic, which was said to be impossible could also lead towards my demise, but who cares!

The next day, after some nice but unnececary breakfast I walked directly back to the examination office, where I walked into an open ‘results’ room where somebody would tell me the results of my test and either possible scholarship or price to enter…… not.

This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

When I entered the room the young lady who should have told me my results only took a short look on my face, then quickly bowed to me and asked me to come with her. The branch manager wanted to talk to me.

This led to me entering a luxurious room, where a handsome, slightly buff guy with slightly greying hair offered me a a seat opposite to him in a comfortable chair.

While handing me some tea, he already asked me: “How did you break that magic identification ball? Could you please tell me, little girl?”

“I pushed my magic into it.” was my simple answer, which made him stare ar me hard.

“And what happened then?” He curiously asked, not believing my answer.

“It shattered away from me.”

“....”

“Hey, I’m sorry that I broke something you have to take care of, but next time please tell me that those things are so fragile.” I defended myself against unasked questions, amusing myself by calling the almost unbreakable identifiers fragile.

“Haaaa……”He sat down and softened his look, taking himself some coffee.

“You didn’t lie, that is at least something. But that you really are that strong? I can’t believe it.”

Noticing his doubt I looked up towards him while leaning forward, artificially tearing up a bit:”Am I in trouble?”

I was proud of myself to be able to use my charms at this age already, as he was dazed and unconsciously spoke out “Cute.”

Then, shaking himself free and blushing a bit, he replied: “No, no. I was just curious. Hmmmmm….. What do you say about a full scholarship? You will get everything you need, wouldn’t that be great?” He offered, maybe thinking me poor because of my bland travelling clothing.

“Sure, thanks, Mister!” I cheerfully replied. Women are dangerous……

Being led outside I was given a special card for people with full scholarship, usable in the whole town, except red-light district and for certain goods, to buy myself spare clothing and other necessities. I was also told to visit a special clothing shop that worked exclusively for the school, to provide myself with the school uniform. While it was alowed to not wear it, it was recommended to just use accecoars for individualisation. The rest would be provided by the school.

Immediately after being escorted out by the branch manager, which was very embarrassing for me, I walked in the direction of the uniform shop, which was in the more noble district near to the school.

Of course I had to pass a gate for that, where the guards glared at me for trying to walk into ‘their’ area with such cheap clothing, but just flashing the scholarship card was enough to make them treat me with respect befitting a king.

Again, something far too embarrassing when it happens openly on the street, under the gazes of so many people.

So I fled into the noble district’s back alleys, just wanting away from the stares.

-----

I am aware that the travelling could and probably should have lasted longer, but it is not a neccessary part of the story and would only be a filler, which I don’t want in my story

or i am just too lazy to think of minor side stories while I could advance the main story line

@Albreo: I had thought of exactly that one annoying sword while writing

and again: THE REQUEST FOR A NEW FICTION DESCRIPTION IS STILL OPEN

and too: I WILL BE GLAD ABOUT ANY RATINGS, REVIEWS AND COMMENTS

I dont want to get stuck at a three star rating for ever

EDIT: I now have changed the story description. Please tell me what you think about it.
