Then, one day, instead of trying to awkwardly and unsuccessfully start a normal conversation, I just asked: “Can you stop being like that?”

Shelica on the horse (I will call them that for now) next to Laes and mine scratched her cheek: “Well….It’s very hard for us to deal with…. with you. You are so.. special.”

“And you are a slave.” Rodrick threw in.

“Does that matter?” Lae defended me. “Everybody is a being.”

“No, not slaves. But do what you want. Not that my opinion matters anyway.” Rodrick really didn’t want to mess with Lae.

“Ahh, just ignore him. What I really want to know is how you became like that.” Shelica questioned me with a curious gaze.

“I… brought somebody back from the dead. When I was eight.”

“What? How?” Shelica leaned over in surprise. “Did you even have access to mana at that age?” She questioned further.

And so I started telling them about me. About my, admittedly not very long, life. And the group became a bit more lively again.

I started sleeping with Shelica again and we had quite some girl’s talk. Uhrg…. girls talk…..me…..

Onyl Rodrick was not happy with the current setup. Very unhappy. And so he interrupted our fun a few days later.

“Your chattering is annoying. And I can’t even believe you can talk with something so dirty and lowly as a slave. Why can’t you just shut up?”

“Why are you so fixated on the slave thing?” Shelica again took the role of the questionaire(?). “It’s not that important, is it?”

“It is. Slaves are just things to be used. Walking tools. Nothing to befriend.”

“What if I say I am no slave?”

“Pah, no point in lying if I saw your status.”

“I am not lying!” I turned to Lae. “You believe me, right?”

“No, not really. I mean, we all saw your curse, so…”

“Shelica?”

“I can’t really say i believe you with that, no.”

Nobody provided any support. Niishan would not have answered. That leaves only one way: “That means I have to show you.”

They looked at me curiously, not knowing what I would do.

Until I lifted my hands to my slave collar.

It was general knowledge that if a slave mark was removed forcefully, the slave would die, thus Laerissa immediately tried to stop me, but I was a bit faster.

A sound similar to breaking glass was heared, and the remains of the piece of cloth that covered my neck slowly dissipated into white particles.

“Do you believe me now?”

Lae hugged me from behind, whispering “Yes.” into my ears.

Shelica looked at me with mouth wide open, not knowing what to say.

Niishan looked up, which was a rare thing.

And Rodrick fell off his horse.

“....monster.”

He started slowly crawling away backwards.

“Monster!”

He stood up and started running.

“MONSTER!”

And then he readied his bow.

I was lucky my brain and eyes had improved in my magic experiments, as without them I wouldn’t have been able to stop his arrows in mid-air.

And Rodrick continued shooting. For several minutes he continued attacking. Then, when there were no more arrows, he just stood there, panting heavily.

I jumped off of the horse and openly talked to the group with a sad voice, dissapointed that nobody did anything while Rodrick was shooting: “Why didn’t you stop him? Nobody tried to protect me? Am I that monsterous? Not worth protecting? IS HE RIGHT IN HIS ACTIONS? AM I A MONSTER?”

I looked Lae and Shelica on the eyes, but they couldn’t face me and lowered their heads.

“So it’s like that. Then, if you change your opinions, I will be waiting where monsters like me gather: the dungeon.”

“Goodbye. It has been fun.”

And I was gone.

---

I made my way directly into the dungeon, not hiding my tears.

I had become strangely attached to the group over the last couple days.

Even enough to warrant tears, which had always been a rarity to see on my face.

Steeling my heart I cleared my way through the masses in fron of the entrance away with my magic and ignored the people trying to stop me from entering.

They would come after me, if I was their friend.

If not, then I wouldn’t want to have anything to do with them anyways.

--- POV Rokar ---

I was looking through some documents when the ring dissolved.

That ring.

Good, now I wouldn’t have to assassinate this good-for-nothing slave that stole the attention of Risa.

Without that thing she was much more malleable, more useful for my plans.
