Chapter 18: magic

magic

I woke up when Shelica lifted me of the horse-like animal we had been riding on.

My stirring caught her by surprise and she involuntarily let me go, dropping me on the floor.

“Ouch!”

“Oh, sorry, sorry, I didn’t wa-”

“It’s ok, I’m fine.” Other than my butt hurting. But since it seemed she couldn’t treat me like before, when she would have immediately asked if I was alright. Instead she seemed to be afraid of my actions, so I just ignored it.

The others then set up the tents, continuing their silent staring, or being deeply in thought, and prepared some food.

Niishan was the first one for the lookout tonight, so he stayed after the meal at the fire and started carving a piece of wood. He always made hearts or flowers, sometimes small weapons for children or statues of animals or monsters. This time his workpiece slowly started to look like a human with wings.

I just said to him: “I’ll be going a bit into the woods, trying to figure out my magic.” After he looked up and nodded, he continued working, so I assumed he meant I could.

A bit away I found a small clearing with a small pond at one end, and some stones nest to it. While sitting on a fitting stone, I already pondered about the experiments I would conduct.

First would probably be forming my excess mana into something no-destructive, so it could not blow up when I would first try manipulating mana. The most useful thing, and by far the most inconspicuous method I had thought of, was the forming of a mana crystal. Those were the crystallisation of raw mana usually only found far away from any intelligent races, and coud store quite large amounts of mana of the affinity they themselves had. To make that, I would need to compress all mana I had into one place, and hope I would have enough … me hoping for enough mana? pffff, that's the only thing I had to much of!

Starting with it I first felt the energy inside me, then wishing for it to gather in front of me while breaking the seal I had placed on myself.

The first part was easy, I even could perceive mana of all types, mainly earth, life and water, around me, which was what only very strong entities could do.

The other part was a little hard, because my seal was something without structure, but very much mana, but the build up pressure, combined with my will, broke through that.

Then I could see the mana flowing out. Gleaming streams of golden energy shone in the woods, as they made their way to the middle of the clearing, there combining again and warping the reality, making a see-through crystal growing into existence. The mass of mana then continued revolving around its creation, slowly feeding it with more and more energy and letting it grow until it reached the size of a table tennis ball, then I stopped my mana from exiting my body.

Stolen novel; please report.

After the rests of my mana slowly faded out of existence, I stood up from my stone and walked towards the floating crystal. I had envisioned it like a single wing, but the details I could see in my creation were astounding. Each single feather had its own strands modeled out, and on the base of the wing was an beautifully integrated hole to put it on a necklace.

Perfect.

Then I prepared the next thing, an Ard-Ritual. Drawing the required symbols in the grassy floor was good mana manipulation training, but filing everything with mana was difficult enough to make me need more than an hour of constant concentration. When everything was finished I put the crystal in the middle and placed several drops of my blood at specific locations within the built up spell. The rest was just a bit of mana manipulation.

This entire procedure was repeated several times when I realised that I needed a fitting material for the thin chain i would use as a necklace, and with every time needing to refill the magic symbols with magic I actually needed until the sun rose to finish everything.

The result was an entire chain with pendant made from one of the most expensive materials of this world, bound to me so that none other could ever even touch it and with and inscribed spell that actively absorbed my excess mana and used it before I would use my mana reserves to cast the spells I wanted.

I now was nearly undetectable as an anomaly, but only until the magic crystals reached their limit, but with their size together it would need eons on me staying still to reach that point.

When I was going back to the camp I looked back once to the clearing, with all plants grown a bit and giving of a glow, adding a mysterious hue to the area.

The others were astounded from what I had done, but still didn’t speak with me, so we continued our journey in silence, with me sitting in front of Lae, who had a envious expression while looking at my necklace.

I couldn’t stand it, so I took the easy way out and made myself sleep again.

there, a whole chapter written on one day, completely without blue boxes, but LONGER

BE HAPPY!!! XD

@GaYoung: I’m bad with chapter numeration, this is the third mistake……

@Slaggedfire: everything will be nice in the end? and your swear is worse than mine XP

@Alaster: for me to write more about social interaction, I should know what normal social interactions are, which I don’t, because I’m bad with talking and don’t bother listening in to the idiotic guys around me. BUT: I will try!

@canaan: it’s too specific, would be rather unlikely for ‘me’ to know
