Chapter 21: down into the dungeon

021 - down into the dungeon

I snapped out of my thoughts on the 35th floor or so.

While I wiped my tears I looked around and, startled by my surroundings, tried to remember what I did on my way down.

I could vaguely remember that the adventurers that had followed me left one after another the deeper I got, and when I was fully alone, they started appearing.

They tried to atttack me, even jumped at me, but none could reach me. But that had remembered me of Rodrick, so I got a little mad and forced them into submission with some mind and soul magic.

After that I continued walking downwards, doing the same to every thing that attacked me and ignoring the rest.

And that brings us to my current position, surrounded by more than a hundred of grovelling kobolds.

Kobolds were the main monster populating this dungeon above the 45th floor. The were dog-like demihumans of questionable intelligence, but outside of dungeons one can sometimes spot packs of them intelligent enough to talk.

Below the 45th floor was the graveyard-area of the dungeon. Infested with undead this was the most dangerous area of the dungeon and the prelude to the boss of the dungeon, which was almost always a lich, a skeleton knight or something similar undead like that.

“I thank you very much that you freed us from the dungeons control, Mistress.”

“Hm?” I raised an eyebrow as one of the more scarred kobolds spoke to me. He talked something about being controlled. And he called me mistress….

“Without you we would have never been set free. We will never forget this. But even if our debt to you is already so big, we can only humbly request your assistance in freeing our families and friends, as we are unable to do so ourselves.”

Quite a sweet talker, wasn’t he? Well, I don’t have anything else to do anyway, so I would end up messing with the dungeon core anyways. If I could free them, why not.

“Sure, I’ll help you.”

“Thank you very much, Mistress. Is there any way we could provide assistance?”

I thought a bit, then replied with a noncommittal “Pray.” and walked further down into the dungeons dephs. They couldn’t do anything anyway, and like that they wouldn’t get in my way.

Nothing interesting happened until the 45th floor, I just continued turning the kobolds that came into my way.

But on the 45th floor, the whole scenery changed. Before there was a typical dungeon environment, with half-destroyed stone brick walls and ever burning torches, now the floor slowly changed to dead grass and the walls grew further and further away from each other. More and more graves started appearing on the way and soon I saw the first skeletons running towards me, trying to kill me.

They obviously dissolved the closer they came to me, because they had 100% death affinity and over 50% darkness affinity and I emitted holy mana, which was the combination of life and light mana.

Soon the skeleton masses with the occasional zombie pushed each other closer and closer to me, so I started to throw golden glowing mana waves into the unholy masses that surrounded me, which was very effective.

A few hours later I arrived at the 52nd floor, on which I found the boss door. It was an imposing structure, more than quadruple my size and decorated with skulls of many different races.

And the most outstanding feature: it was heavy. So heavy, in fact, that I couldn’t make it move at all.

Folding my arms and and tapping on the floor with my foot I thought of how I could open this thing without destroying it. I wouldn’t want to damage my home, even if would hopefully be just temporary.

The first thing that came to my mind was similar to how I moved to the town back then, by bending space. I would only have to make the space between the two doorwings big enough to enter, but before I tried that I wanted to do something else.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

I stepped closer to the door, and…. knocked as ladylike as I could.

The two *toc*s I had caused resonated with something inside the door, and it slowly opened.

Manners do help sometimes.

Inside I could see a forest, hundreds of dead trees around a imposing temple-like building that was made from deep black marble, with purple torches illuminating the area.

The first room inside was a throne room, with a big throne at the top of some flat stairs and two firebowls with purple fire at the sides. Suspiciously the room was empty, so I stepped further inside, through the door behind the throne.

Following the hallway I looked in every room. What I found were libraries, kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, and so on. The only kind of room that was missing was a bedroom.

The last door, the one opposite to the entrance, opened up to a staircase downwards. At the end of the stairs was a door like all the others in this temple, which I opened quickly. But instead of the hallway I had expected, I saw a bed so big that it filled out the same area of the whole level above.

Hundreds of pillows, all in different forms and colours, were spread on the soft mattress. Several curtains were fixed on the ceiling, separating the hall into different areas.

And in the midst of it all slept a purple woman. She didn’t just have long, purple hair or soft, purple skin, but her whole body, including the broad hips and long legs, were all made from one piece of unidentifiable purple material.

She was clothed in a stunning black dress, and her hair had several black pieces of cloth braided in.

“.....finally, a visitor. After such a long time!”

“...”

“Won’t you come closer? I hadn’t talked with someone for far too long. And maybe we could even do a bit more than just talking.”

“...”

She still hadn’t turned her head in my direction, but the voice would make any man instantly fall in love. Funny thing I wasn’t only not a man any more, but also a child.

“Silent one, are you? But why don’t you come closer? I promise I won’t hurt you. Hehehehehe…” her laughing was nice and didn’t carry any malice, and since I didn’t really fear her, I slipped off my shoes, which were dirty from all the grime in the upper levels, and slowly made my way towards her.

Then I got I nice idea, so I started running towards her. She obviously heard the change in my walking, and turned to look at me, but I arrived at her just when she had fully turned, and jumped at her, hugging the woman around the neck while calling her: “Onee-chan!”

“O- onee-chan?”

I just grinned at her and hugged her tighter.

“I don’t have a little sister.”

“No, you don’t”

“Then why did you call me that?”

“Why not?”

“...”

“...”

“...”

“Can you let go?”

“No.”

“Little brat, let go!”

I just grinned more. If I could make her a friend I wouldn’t have to catch her or destroy the bed while killing her, as she wasn’t hurt by my pure mana.

“You didn’t want it any other way.” She said, then ripped my arms off…..

“Ahrrg! S**t!”

“Oh, sorry. I didn’t want to do that! I’m so sorry!”

The woman obviously had no prior experience with weak or hurt people, as I could make out her desperate tries of pushing the arms back on me through the tears in my eyes, crushing my upper body in the process.

I made myself fall unconscious to escape the pain.

no Lae-chapter

I felt like there shouldn’t be one, so there isn’t

about the onee-chan: since in english there is no word for “bigger sister that I am rather close to”, but there is one in angelic, I simply used the japanese term onee-chan

@Slaggedfire: Yes, he does.

@SomeReader: Rokar believes ‘I’ died
