Chapter 11:starting my journey

starting my journey

Standing in front of the gates, I took the single road that led away from here.

Walking along I realized it was the first time in this life I was out alone. I could do what I want. I even could run away!

….but why should I do that?

I only would have to work to get some money for food.

….do I still need food?

Apparently not, since from the time I woke up yesterday I had not eaten a single thing.

I decided to eat anyway, it would ease my load I would have to carry. Maybe I would keep some with me though. You never know, reincarnated people would always find nearly starving people on the roadside who would turn out to be annoying and strong.

I decided to eat whenever I wanted and not care about that.

How did that work anyway? Not eating for so long?

It surely is caused by magic…….

I should try out how to do magic a bit more, but I’m very sure I should wait until I’m further away from the mansion.

Pondering on like that I walked down the road.

I found out I didn’t even need to sleep.

I should do it though, it would be very suspicious if a small girl…. walked alone in the dark.

Setting up a camp was a hassle though. Especially setting up a fire. Since I shouldn’t use magic so near the mansion, and nobody though about taking something else to light up a fire with, the only other option would have been to rub sticks against each other.

When night came I just sat down at a tree and wrapped myself in a cloak I found in my bag. It had a convenient hood I could hide my hair under, I should remember that option.

Thinking about hair, I noticed I still had that halo hovering above me.

Thinking about how convenient it would be to make that one disappear too, it did. I still felt it though, so I was pretty happy about that.

Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.

One thing less I had to worry about.

Anyway, trying to sleep was actually very easy. Like with the halo, just a bit harder, I had to wish for me to do so.

The next morning I was stiff and hurt all over.

Me being a living flashlight probably attracted a lot of mosquitoes, so I had swellings on every exposed part of skin. Never wanting to feel like that again, I made the decision to either hide myself fully at night, or rather, if nobody was around, to just keep going.

They disappeared within hours, which made me think about the other wounds I had received when I was stabbed by the guards and hit by ‘master’.

Since I couldn’t find a trace of them I assumed I had good regenerative powers or healed myself unconsciously. Regardless, I was happy I would not have to deal with that.

A few days later I came to the first city. It had unimpressive, but still around 7m high stone walls with some watchtowers and only one gate, as it was a bit off the road with a single broad way going from a point where several highways and smaller streets met.

Closing in on the town and coming across several people I wondered why they were all staring at me. Was there something on my face or…...wait. I glow, right? And my hair shouldn’t make me any less inconspicuous.

How troublesome, but there’s nothing I can really do.

I could probably colour my hair brown with some smelly stuff, but there’s no way I would use such things on my beautiful, in the sun glittering hair!

Thinking about that, I came to the gatehouse, which had a small line of carriages, travellers and mercenaries waiting to get in. Standing in line I got uncomfortable with all the strangers staring at me.

I was lucky that there were two separate lines for carriages and people on foot, so because sole travellers were finished up quickly, it soon was my turn.

Looking at the old guard that had a perverted grin on his face, I could only hope he wouldn’t cause too much trouble….
