Chapter 45 - Rao

Chapter 45 - Rao

Boe jumped up from his previous position and distanced himself from the ocean. The dark and cold aura started emanating from Boe’s body and his eyes gradually turned blood red. Hearing Boe’s sudden movements, Kamys, Dale and Brienne opened their eyes abruptly and looked at him in surprise.

“Get ready to fight.” Boe already activated his ‘Shield of regret’ and used ‘Amplification’ technique to strengthen himself. His three companions still didn’t understand what was happening, but that didn’t stop them from preparing themselves for a battle as their powerful auras erupted out of their bodies at the same time. All four young wizards were ready to fight as they searched for the enemy, but there was no movement around them at all.

“Looking for me?” An alluring voice was suddenly heard by all member of the company as they turned toward the source of the sound. A three meters tall woman stood just a few centimeters away from Boe. The woman was almost completely naked; only her private parts and face were covered by strange azure colored leaves. Her huge vertical azure pupils were focused on Boe as she stretched her graceful hand toward him. At the same time as the hand moved, a bizarre energy wave spread throughout the area. As the energy slowly spread throughout the entire area, Boe tried to evade it but just a few moments later he realized that it couldn’t be avoided no matter how he struggled. Boe’s next move was to concentrate his battle aura outside of his body in attempt to create shield that would stop the energy wave from entering his body. The pitch black translucent battle aura quickly covered Boe’s entire body as he kept retreating as far from the giant woman as he could. Right when Boe thought that he successfully defended against the energy wave, the gentle looking azure wave untraceably reached Boe’s battle aura cloak and, to his shock, it simply penetrated through the shadow attribute battle aura as if it didn’t exist at all. The moment the giant woman’s attack reached Boe and his companions, they all felt like an endless amount of chains slowly crawled into their bodies and shackled everything within their reach. The bloodstream congealed within an instant. All their organs stopped functioning and the entire nervous system became paralyzed. Even their battle aura suddenly froze.

The giant woman chuckled as her palm finally landed on Boe’s forehead. After a brief moment of silence, the woman’s eyebrows furrowed and she murmured, “Poor child... Who would do such an atrocious thing to an innocent child like you?”

Before Boe could even realize what was happening, woman suddenly released a thin thread of azure colored battle aura out of her finger and inserted it right between Boe’s eyes.

“A puny mortal dares to attack me?!” A furious roar thundered from within Boe’s body when the woman tried probing Mastema’s soul with a shred of her battle aura.

*cough-cough*

The giant woman staggered a few steps back and coughed out fresh blood out of her mouth. To her shock, just a natural pressure from Mastema’s existence was enough to obliterate the woman’s control over Boe’s body and even slightly injure her. The woman’s whole body was visibly shaking as she focused her all in attempts to calm the storm inside of her created by a mere sentence from Mastema. She was sure that she could easily suppress the aftershock of Mastema’s attack, but a moment later she understood that it wasn’t just a mental attack she received earlier; there were countless specks of pitch black battle aura relentlessly attacking her body from within. Only after a full minute of struggling did the woman finally got rid of the last remnants of Mastema’s attack and there was now apparent fear on the woman’s body as she looked at Boe.

While the giant was busy, the company of four young wizards felt that they were freed from the strange freezing magic of their opponent, so they swiftly retreated as far as they could from the giant and gathered together in case they had to fight.

‘He possesses the soul of the powerful demon cultivator who practiced the shadow element inside of him…’ The giant woman’s face was filled with shock and fear as she wiped off blood from the corners of her mouth. “I’m Rao, the first inspector and the guardian of the upper crown.”

Boe, Brienne, Dale and Kamys were all quite surprised when they saw the sudden change of attitude from the giant woman who, evidently, could easily kill all of them if she wished to.

“Don’t be afraid. I mean no harm to any of you, I was just curious when I felt unusual energy undulations from within his body.” Rao pointed at Boe as she softly spoke and slowly moved closer to them. “May I inquire what the young master of the Haultice clan doing in such a lowly world?” Rao’s voice was noticeably gentler as she stared at Boe and asked.

“Haultice clan?” Dale was the first one to react to Rao’s words. He always suspected that there was some kind of mysterious powerful background behind Boe, but it was the first time he heard of the so-called ‘Haultice clan’.

While Dale was pondering over the matters of ‘Boe’s clan’, Boe himself felt shiver run down his spine. Even though it was the first time he heard of Haultice clan, he clearly understood that The Toxin Queen’s worries turned out to be true. And even though he already knew that the master of this fortress was someone from higher worlds, Boe still felt pressure on him tremendously increase. “Boe Nas greets elder Rao.” Boe slightly bowed and immediately retracted all battle aura back into his body. He knew that he had no chance of surviving in front of someone from higher worlds, so he chose to be as polite as he could. “In response to elder’s question, I’m a mere citizen of this lowly world and definitely have no relation to the Haultice clan you mentioned.”

Rao’s face displayed apparent surprise when she heard Boe’s response but a moment later she swept her gaze over Boe’s companions with a brilliant smile on her huge face. Then, before anyone could react, Rao waved her arm.

*thud* *thud* *thud*

Brienne, Kamys and Dale suddenly lost their consciousness and fell onto the ground.

“They can’t hear us now. So, my little friend, can you speak truthfully now?” Rao’s enormous azure eyes were now fully concentrated on Boe’s body as if she was trying to see through him.

Despite Rao’s sudden actions, Boe remained unusually calm. He glanced at his companions and when he saw that all of them were just sleeping, Boe turned toward the giant woman in front of him and calmly said, “Elder Rao, all I said before is truth.”

Rao was attentively watching over every Boe’s movement and even his heartbeat and breathing were inspected by her, so she was sure that he didn’t lie to her just now. “How can it be?” Rao didn’t even try to hide her shock as she started pondering over Boe’s words. “What do you know about the soul within you?”

“His name is Mastema and he is of the demon race,” Boe answered after a few moments of silence.

“Is that really all you know?” Rao narrowed her eyes as she shot a cold glance at Boe.

Under the pressure from Rao’s gaze, Boe could only clench his teeth and nod.

“Boe, isn’t it?” Rao suddenly retracted her eyes off Boe’s body and she started leisurely walking around him. “Even though I’m not yet immortal, I’m a cultivator of high rank from the Kremb race. My race has two unique characteristics granted since birth. The first one is incredibly long lifespan and the second one is ability to see through all lies.” When Rao finished saying these words, she gently smiled and bent down so her face was just a few centimeters away from Boe’s. “With that being said, I won’t force you to tell anything else to me. I only hope that you harbor no ill intentions in coming into this place and will be able to pass through all tests. If you will, then I beg you to turn the wish of my master into reality.”

“Wish of your master?” Hearing Rao’s words Boe understood that she was some kind of guardian of this place and served Enthriil.

“As long as you will be able to pass all tests and reach the last room, you’ll find out everything you need to know.” Rao’s attentive gaze was still slowly inspecting Boe as if she tried to find something out about him.

“I can’t promise you that I will accomplish it, but if it’s within my capabilities, I will do my best,” Boe politely answered.

“I saw your earlier performance and out of four people who entered this time, you have the highest chances of succeeding.” Rao softly chuckled and before Boe could ask anything else, she suddenly transformed into the squirrel that injured Dale in the first test. “I’m the first guardian and inspector of first three tests.” The squirrel suddenly leapt up a few meters away from Boe and when it landed it transformed yet again.

“All four candidates passed the test of will.” The familiar thunderous voice suddenly resounded in Boe’s mind.

“Which means that you managed to pass my area, so rewards are awaiting you in the room.” The ill looking pale girl that stabbed Kamys in previous test sinisterly smiled. A moment later, the world around Boe started fading into nothingness and his mind started falling into slumber but right before he lost the last remnant of his consciousness, he heard Rao’s voice, “And if you’re really have no relation to Haultice clan then I advise you to never cross your path with any member of it or the existence of that soul within you will bring endless troubles upon you.”
