Chapter 19 - Ambush

Chapter 19 - Ambush

‘I finally managed to combine all moves of my battle teaching. I now have a bunch of movements for dodging in fights and a few attacking moves. So now I need to practice these moves in my demonification form and direct my battle aura into them. I can definitely defeat a regular rank 2 wizard in the demonification form, but if I meet an experienced wizard then I’ll have to go all out and reveal all my trump cards. I really hope that Dooran’s measures are going to be enough for my safety…’ Boe already knew that Dooran was going to send one of his subordinates to protect him from shadows. That person should be enough to deal with two powerful rank 2 wizards. By Dooran’s estimations, Ligu should only send out one powerful rank 2 assassin to eliminate Boe, anything more than that would already be an overkill. But for some reason Boe felt that Dooran has underestimated the danger and he would have to fight with his own hands this time.

On the next morning, Boe came to the main hall of the school to meet up with Kamys and the rest.

“Brother Boe, you’re late, we’ve all been waiting for a long time already.” Kamys greeted him and shook his hands with a brilliant smile on his face.

“I came on time,” Boe coldly answered and glanced over all present people. There were two adults and three young men Boe didn’t know, but he knew one teacher very well. It was Rid Hag, professor from companions nurturing classes. Rid Hag was one of the professors, who didn’t want to accept Boe into the school and later made him leave the school for his first mission. Boe had a sensation that Rid would bring troubles on this trip, but he couldn’t do anything about it.

Both other teachers smiled at Boe when they saw him, they were definitely here specifically to protect Boe from harm. Boe nodded in response and noticed a cold killing intent coming from Rid Hag for a moment.

A young man with short black hairs, black eyes and tight black clothes was looking at Boe with a strange glimmer in his eyes. He looked similar to Han Ligu, but his aura was colder and more frightening, as if he killed many people and gone through a lot of life-or-death situations. It was Ligu family’s current generation’s strongest genius Shi Ligu. For him, Boe was already a walking dead man, so he didn’t even look at Boe for a second time.

“So you’re the one who defeated Loseac and crippled Han, eh? We should fight when we’ll have a chance, I want to see your mysterious power and test you out myself!” A big muscular youth walked to Boe, his eyes were burning with fighting spirit. He had brown eyes, red hairs and a lot of freckles on his face. His clothes were old and simple, there were even a few patches on them. But the most distinguishing feature of this person was a big tattoo of a ferocious bear on his right hand.

“Ivan Popov? I’ve heard of your power before and I wouldn’t mind testing myself out against you and your bear,” Boe answered with a sinister and bloodthirsty look in his eyes. Ivan shivered slightly from Boe’s gaze, but it didn’t scare him, it made his fighting spirit flare up even more.

“Richard Carter,” The last young man checked out Boe from head to toe, simply said his name and then turned around unimpressed. His facial features were very sharp, his eyes grey, hairs black, but one strand of hair in a middle was white. Aura of this person wasn’t domineering or frightening, but it was as sharp as a sword. If a regular person just looked at him, his mind would hurt and he could even collapse at the spot. He was dressed in a neat grey classic suit, which made him look like a dignified noble.

“Boe, I already befriended Ivan and Richard. Two of them are great guys, but Richard is as quiet and indifferent as you are and that’s really frustrating to have two such people in our gang.” Kamys started his sentence in a very cheerful tone, but ended it in a very depressed manner.

A journey from the Black Scorpio school to the Dark Elf Kingdom usually takes almost a week, but there were more than two weeks before the competition starts, so Boe and company were not in a hurry. Every day, before the night fell, they stopped in a nearby city or village and spent the night in hotels. This peace and tranquility lasted for four days. On the fifth day, on the road from one village to another, they had to walk through a big forest.

“Let’s stop here and have a meal,” Rid Hag suddenly proposed and stopped moving.

“We shouldn’t stop in the middle of the forest. We shall be able to leave this place in two hours, let’s make a stop after that.”

“That’s just an ordinary forest, there are no dangerous beasts or bandits here,” Rid Hag said aggressively, he was obviously not going to give up on this idea.

*BOOM*

Before the other two teachers had a chance to say anything else, a huge explosion blasted near them and they were both sent flying few meters away.

“Students, stay close to us!” One of two teachers screamed while standing up. But when he looked at his students, he saw them all fighting with people in black. He then felt a killing intent targeted on his back and quickly took out a sword from his back and clashed with a black dressed person.

Rid Hag was lying unconscious while everyone else was fighting, he was the closest to the explosion so he received the most damage.

‘They are not wizards, but body training masters. Since when has Ligu family started using mercenaries to kill people?’ Teachers expected an attack from wizard assassins, but were attacked by a bunch of random mercenaries. At first they thought they could easily defeat the enemy, but then they felt that their opponents weren’t trying to win the fight, but were just stalling for time. They then both started looking for Boe, but he was already gone from the battlefield.

While teachers, Shi, Ivan and Richard were fighting their enemies to a deadlock, Boe had serious problems with his opponent. Because of enemy’s unstoppable onslaught, Boe had to retreat from his position all the time. He was already three hundred meters away from teachers and could barely see them. He didn’t want to use his demonification form yet and an enemy didn’t let him chant even a single technique, so he didn’t have any other option than to keep backing up.

Both teachers tried to break free from the fight and find Boe, but their opponents didn’t give them a single chance. They could only hope that their ally in the shadows was enough to keep Boe safe.

Few minutes later, Boe was already very far from everyone and he was ready to call for help from his protector in shadows. But suddenly, a silhouette emerged from behind the tree and smashed Boe’s opponent’s head.

*BANG*

Boe’s opponent simply crumbled to dust in front of him. Right when Boe wanted to give his thanks to an elder, who saved his life, he heard a very familiar voice.

“Brother Boe, no need to thank me for saving your life.” Kamys was standing on a pile of dust with a brilliant smile and arrogance all over his face. He was very pleased with himself. When he was attacked by an enemy, he panicked at first but then got serious and used his years of physical training to easily defeat his opponent. He then found out that their attackers weren’t even humans, but wooden puppets. After noticing that Boe has vanished from the battlefield, he got worried and decided to find Boe to help him out.

“You.. you shouldn’t be here.” Boe understood from the beginning, that this ambush was targeted at him. Explosion and attackers were just to separate Boe from teachers, the real enemy would only appear after his protector showed himself. But Kamys ruined Boe’s plan and now he was in danger too.

“Quick, leave this place. I’ll explain everything to you la-” Before Boe could finish his sentence, three people appeared from shadows and started walking in Kamys’ direction. They were all dressed in tight black clothes and wore strange white masks.

“It seems like you expected us to come. Where is your protector? Or is he going to show himself only after we’ll attack you?” All three men were rank 2 wizards and they were definitely not some common weak ones at that.

“Leave this place, run toward the school and don’t look back. I won’t be able to win or stall them for too long,” a green-haired middle-aged man in green clothes appeared in front of Boe and instructed him right away. He was one of Dooran’s strongest rank 2 wizards, but he could only win against two rank 2 wizards. If he wanted to survive this fight, he could only slightly delay three wizards and give a chance to Boe and Kamys to run away. While Boe was an important talent to Dooran, this wizard was already a high skilled rank 2 wizard, so there was no meaning in losing him to save Boe.

Boe and Kamys didn’t even need a second to think before they turned around and ran off into the distance.

“We shouldn’t run in a straight line, let’s move to the left and hide in that mountain.” Boe knew that his ally wouldn’t be able to hold their enemies for too long, so he decided to not follow his instruction and hide instead.

Kamys followed Boe and they reached a mountain in a few minutes. They then started climbing the mountain and searching for a cave.

“Don’t you feel like we’re heroes from legends? Running away from jealous enemies while we’re young and weak and then we’ll get back at them when we’ll bloom into powerful warriors? We will definitely encounter some rare chance in these mountains and get some kind of an ancient inheritance!” While Boe had a very serious expression on his face, Kamys was smiling from excitement and fantasizing.

“Concentrate on escaping, hero,” Boe reprimanded Kamys for his jokes and kept running up the mountain.

“You’re no fun, brother Boe.” Kamys looked at Boe, who was running a little behind him and his expression suddenly become grave. When Boe noticed this, he turned around and saw three silhouettes catching up to them.

“They’re faster than us, we have to fight. Kamys, can you take attention of two of them for a few seconds? I have a special item that can kill one of them and then we’ll fight them one-on-one.”

“I can keep two of them busy for a couple of seconds, are you sure you’ll be able to kill the last one?” Kamys became serious and he couldn’t believe that Boe could kill a rank 2 wizard using some item.

Boe calmly nodded and a small grey ball appeared in his hands out of nowhere. It was “Medusa’s glance”, a treasure from Thomas’ treasury, which could turn an enemy into a stone statue for a short period of time. When Boe picked this treasure, he was going to use it on Tsude, but then he understood that Tsude was far too powerful for that and kept the treasure in case he would need it.

“What is it?” When Kamys saw runes on a little grey ball, he understood that it was some mysterious treasure with magical powers, but he had no idea what it could be.

“That’s a life-saving treasure my master gave me. They’re already close to us, get ready.” Boe and Kamys turned around and were now facing their enemies. Boe moved a bit further than Kamys and prepared to use the Medusa’s glance at any moment.

Kamys’ eyes suddenly changed from the usual brown color into crimson red, his red hair became fiery and his entire aura changed. A terrifying fire burned deep inside of Kamys’ eyes and his whole body was shrouded with little specks of fire. He now looked like an igneous elemental that came from the undermost depths of volcano.

Boe was shocked when he saw Kamys change like that, but he quickly calmed himself down. It seems like he was not the only one with a big secret in the school.

“So you gave up on running and decided to die faster? That’s a wise decision.” A person in front had a very hoarse voice, he was obviously an old man and was commanding the other two.

“Why don’t you try and kill me, old man?” Boe tried to pull that old man to himself, it would be great to eliminate the strongest person first and then fight with weaker enemies one-on-one. But the old man didn’t take a bait, he only waved his hand and one of his subordinates moved in Boe’s direction. When Boe saw that, he glanced at Kamys for the last time and then ran further to the top of the mountain.

“I thought you were going to fight me, but you decided to leave your friend against two enemies while you would run away alone, eh?” The one who chased Boe had an unpleasant female voice.

“I just needed you to be away from your comrades.” Boe unexpectedly turned around and activated the Medusa’s glance by inserting his battle aura inside of it.

“What is that toy? Did you really thi-” The female assassin started laughing, but before she could finish her sentence, she suddenly stopped moving. She didn’t literally transform into the stone statue, but her whole body froze. The runes on the Medusa’s glance faded and Boe put it back in his ring.

Boe didn’t wait for even a second as he took out his Dark Elf King’s bow, condensed a shadow arrow and shot it through the assassin’s head. Arrow pierced her head smoothly and went out of it on the other side. A blood poured out of both holes in her head and her body fell onto the ground. Boe relaxed a bit after he saw the scene and started running back to Kamys.
