Chapter 41 - A bitter battle

*BOOM*

A thunderous explosion rang out right before Dale could even reach the place where they heard the scream from. Dale saw an enormous cloud of dust appearing several meters ahead of him and a moment later, Kamys’ body flew out of the dust cloud.

*BOOM*

Kamys' was thrown few dozens meter away, smashing trees apart on his way until he heavily hammered into the ground. A trail of fresh blood was flowing out of his mouth; most of his clothes were already torn to pieces and only a simple-looking red robe was in perfect shape even after such a serious clash. If Kamys’ didn’t have this protective treasure he obtained from the dark elves’ treasury, he would definitely be in much worse state right now.

Seeing Kamys’ poor condition, Dale finally turned his head toward the source of Kamys’ injury. As dust started fading, a towering figure appeared with its fists clenched and its eyes were radiating astonishingly menacing killing intent. The humanoid creature had jade green scales all over its three-meters tall sturdy body, its black feline pupils divided its crimson eyes and its face resembled that of a lizard; Dale felt cold shiver run down his spine by just looking at the monster. Even though Dale didn’t feel any battle aura coming out of the monster, he was sure that just its physical body was enough to crush any one of their company under its feet.

“I got her.” A moment later, Brienne appeared next to Kamys with a little girl in her hands.

“Good. Protect her.” Without saying anything further, Kamys’ aura exploded and he immediately shot toward the lizard. The charging young man with an illusory bird behind his back looked just like a fiery phoenix as he flew past Dale at an incredible speed.

Dale didn’t have a chance to react as he felt a frightening cold aura suddenly pervaded the surrounding area next to the creature. Evidently, it was Boe activating his demonification form for the fight. After a moment of thoughts, Dale gritted his teeth and clenched his fists as his own aura broke out of his body. Since both Kamys and Boe were already going all out against the enemy, he couldn’t let those two fight the enemy alone.

“Kaigyruu Kalkan”

“Ottuukush Oigonuu”

“Ajal Kylych”

Three young men unleashed their techniques at the same time and even the air around the lizard slightly trembled. Boe’s “Shield of regret” was merciless defensive technique, which divided any damage taken between the user of the technique and anyone who attacked him evenly. Kamys’ “Awakening of the phoenix” boosted his speed and created a protective shield around his body. And finally, Dale’s “Death’s sword” manifested a sinister black-red sword in his hands.

*ROAR*

The lizard was evidently enraged by the fact that some little humans interrupted its meal. Its sharp gaze was now fixated on Kamys and his companions.

*SLASH*

But before the creature could decide who to attack first, Kamys had already charged at the enemy. His sword strike was perfectly executed and he poured all of his strength into that attack, but he still failed to catch the monster off-guard.

*BAM*

Another heavy blow landed onto Kamys’ body as he was sent flying into the distance yet again. Blood sprayed out of his mouth, but he still stood up right as he landed and without even a moment of hesitation, Kamys ran toward the lizard again. Everywhere he moved, the grass would burn and the smell of bonfire would fill the air. Even cold-blooded monster was slightly taken aback by Kamys’ ferociousness.

*CLANG*

Seeing that the creature was focusing its all attention on Kamys, Boe stealthily approached it and attacked it using his claws of Enthriil. But right as a sinister smile appeared on Boe’s face, he suddenly froze. The expected piercing sound and blood spurting out of the creature, in fact, didn’t happen. Instead, the sound as if his claws hit the iron plates resounded in Boe’s ears.

*ROAR* *BAM*

Enraged, the lizard immediately threw a punch toward Boe casting him off into the distance. Even though Boe managed to block the attack with his hands and he had his defensive technique activated, a tremendous pain still pierced through his body. He flew a dozen meters away before he heavily smashed into the tree. Boe’s aura dimmed and he coughed out a mouthful of fresh blood blood.

*ROAR*

The monster slightly trembled when it felt half of its own attack hurting itself. Its crimson eyes stared at Boe in shock. Lizard’s blood started boiling from the anger and hatred. One of the little humans snatched away its food and another one had actually injured it. The lizard had never in its life felt such a humiliation before. It suddenly lifted its head toward the sky and roared. To Boe’s shock, the scales all over the lizard’s body started glowing with barely noticeable verdant light. The ground beneath its feet trembled as the lizard swiftly jumped toward Boe.

“Brother Boe.” Seeing the unexpected scene, Kamys felt that the lizard before him was definitely much stronger than the one they met earlier. They barely managed to defeat the previous such creature with Brienne’s help and now they had to fight against even stronger foe. And right at that thought, Kamys’ gaze landed on Dale’s body. “Do something!”

After he saw infuriated lizard flying toward Boe, Dale felt his whole body shivering. It was the first time when he met such a scary enemy. Throughout his whole life, Dale always only worried for his own life and right now he was evidently in danger.

“If we’ll die here, you will be left alone in this world full of monsters.” Brienne saw hesitation in Dale’s eyes and she quickly understood what he was thinking at the moment.

After hearing Brienne’s remarks, Dale clenched the sinister looking sword in his hands and without uttering a sound charged to intercept the lizard in its way toward Boe. He wasn’t stupid after all, so he knew that he would have even harder time in here without his companions. And he could always run away if situation would become grim.

*BAM*

The monster met Dale’s sword with its bare hands. Dale’s attack didn’t even scratch the lizard, but it was enough to stop the monster from approaching Boe for a moment and let Boe recover some of his power back. Just as Dale was preparing to step back from the creature, it suddenly jolted its entire body toward the former. Dale’s face momentarily went pale as the lizard’s fist swang toward him.

*SLASH*

Just as Dale prepared to use everything he got to defend, a fiery silhouette appeared next to the lizard. Kamys gathered all his battle aura and injected it into his sword. The pitch black sword was now engulfed in bright red battle aura. Using his years of physical training, Kamys easily approached the lizard from an unexpected angle and thrusted his sword into the monster’s body.

Green blood sprayed out of the lizard’s back and its movement came to a halt. Even though the cut wasn’t too deep, it had successfully created an opening between the monster’s scales. Dale heaved a sigh of relief as he swiftly drew away from the enemy.

*ROAR*

The mighty roar of the lizard was now filled with boundless hatred and tinge of pain. The already maddened eyes of the creature were now radiating a thick killing intent. The monster turned around and in a blink of an eye was already approaching Kamys.

*BAM*

A heavy punch landed onto Kamys’ chest as he was sent flying yet again. Among the three young men, he was the best trained physically and he was the only one who possessed a high ranked protective treasure, so he was always in front of the battle.

*SLASH* *SLASH*

Boe used the chance created by Kamys’ sacrifice and threw his dual short swords right at the newly formed wound on lizard’s back. Even though the lizard had a great instincts and superb reaction, it couldn’t detect soundless thin swords, so they easily penetrated into the body of the monster. The lizard’s scales might be extremely tough, but since Kamys’ had already created a space between them with his previous attack, there was nothing that could stop Boe’s swords from entering deep into the lizard’s body.

*HOWL*

A strange soul-piercing howl resounded amidst the battleground. It was filled with agony and was much louder than all the previous roars. But the three young men had no time to think about that as all of them swiftly launched their attacks toward their foe.

“Boe!” All of a sudden, Brienne scream resounded in ears of young men and Boe instantly turned his head toward her. As he saw what was happening, Boe’s face became extremely grim and killing intent exploded out of his body. To Dale and Kamys’ shock, Boe turned around and left them fight against the lizard by themselves. Just as Kamys’ wanted to shout something to Boe, he saw that Brienne and the girl were now surrounded by five humanoid lizards. Even though these lizards were a lot smaller than the monster they were fighting, Kamys saw that Brienne couldn’t fight all of them at the same time as protecting the child.

Boe was running toward Brienne, while she was using all her strength to defend the girl behind her from the monsters. Kamys halted for a brief moment as he got distracted by the sudden appearance of the smaller lizards, and because of that, all attacks of the enraged monster rained onto Dale, who happened to be the closest one to the lizard at the moment. In just a moment, the battlefield turned upside down and everything was now in chaos.

Even though he already used his Shadow step technique to boost his speed, Boe needed some time to reach Brienne, so he could do nothing more than just watch her fight against five enemies by herself while he ran as fast as he could.

While Brienne was not so experienced in life-or-death battles, she was a renowned genius of an entire continent, so she put up a great fight against her enemies. A slender figure of a frail looking young maiden was gracefully moving according to some mysterious technique as she deployed attack after attack. Even before Boe reached her, Brienne had already managed to injure one of the lizards, but she was evidently having a hard time keeping that kind of rhythm up.

*SLASH*

When Boe was only a few meters away from her, Brienne’s body was penetrated by talons of one of the lizards. Scarlet blood poured out of the newly formed wounds on Brienne’s thigh as she silently groaned. The injuries weren’t looking too serious, but it was still enough to decrease her speed drastically.

“DIE.” A cold voice resounded next to Brienne and even she felt chills on her back after she heard it. An incomparably spine-chilling killing intent broke out from Boe’s body as he rushed past Brienne and attacked the lizard which injured Brienne just now. The claws of Enthriil easily penetrated the small lizard’s body and green blood covered Boe’s hand. Just as other lizards wanted to step in and save their brother from Boe’s hands, Boe swung his second hand and decapitated the lizard. Without even a moment of hesitation, Boe flung the lizard’s headless corpse away and charged straight toward his next victim.

Boe’s savage attack made Brienne’s heart skip a beat, but she quickly calmed herself and hastened back to the girl. But just as she took a step forward, she suddenly felt a sudden sharp pain in her leg and her body started falling onto the ground. Evidently, the injuries she got earlier weren’t as light as she thought they would be.

At that exact moment, Kamys was heavily breathing as he stood on top of the dead body of the big lizard and Dale was vomiting blood a few meters away from it. Two of them fought a bitter battle against the big monster. Even though they won, that victory came at a great cost. As the saying goes, a cornered dog will leap over a wall. The heavily injured lizard knew that it would die if it didn’t kill all the humans in front of it, so it summoned all of its own offsprings and exert every drop of its power to struggle for the life. But in the end, all of it was still not enough to ensure its survival. Kamys’ last powerful attack had successfully penetrated monster’s chest and pierced its heart. But just a moment before that, the creature used up its all remaining strength and attacked Dale. Even though Dale had somehow managed to avoid it hitting any of his vital organs, that attack still landed on his stomach.

Boe was like a god of death as he clashed against the small lizards. After he decapitated the first one, he easily killed a second lizard by thrusting his claws into its chest. He was already fully covered in sticky green blood when he slashed the third monster into pieces and just as his claws were slicing off the right hand of the fourth lizard, he heard a sound that he would never forget in his entire life.

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” Brienne’s scream resounded throughout the whole battlefield.

Boe’s face paled as his mind cleared up and he remembered that the fifth lizard disappeared from his sight. Without hesitating for even a moment, he used up all he had to charge toward Brienne. Both Dale and Kamys looked at Brienne from afar and they saw that she was lying on the ground and a small lizard was ruthlessly sending attack after attack while standing on Brienne’s body. Cold shiver ran down their spines as they looked at that horrifying scene. And just as Kamys started moving toward Brienne, he suddenly felt appallingly baleful aura exploding from the Boe’s direction. When that aura appeared, the whole world seemed to be sunk in complete silence.

A sinister power suddenly swallowed the lizard up and as a result it couldn’t move a single muscle. Brienne was lying on the ground with numerous scars and bruises all over her body and the lizard’s paralyzed body was still standing right above her.

Amidst the silence, fast paced quite steps suddenly started resounding throughout the battlefield. The lizard couldn’t turn its head toward the sound, but it felt that something terrifying was quickly moving toward it.

*BAM*

A powerful kick landed onto the monster’s body as its body was blown up into countless pieces; blood and guts rained down onto the ground right next to Brienne’s body as a vomit-inducing smell filled the air. Brienne’s mind was already in mist as she was losing consciousness when she saw the so familiar cold looking face getting closer to her. A moment later, her mind fell into the darkness.
