Chapter 22 - Brienne Karib

Chapter 22 - Brienne Karib

“So you know who we are, then you should understand what kind of offense you have made. According to laws of The Shadow Kingdom, you both shall be executed on a spot without a trial,” the young royal guard said with a look of disdain on his face. He had short blonde hairs, brown eyes and there were a lot of scars on his face. He looked to be around twenty five years old and already a rank 3 wizard, this kind of strength at his age would make him a worshipped genius in the Black Scorpio school.

“Gareth, it’s not their fault so just let them go.” The girl’s voice was overbearing and carried a very majestic power in it.

“With all due respect, your highness, The King himself created this law.” Gareth still insisted on his previous words, but spoke in a very restrained manner in front of the girl.

“You dare disobey my orders?” The girl’s tone became cold, an oppressive aura burst forth from her body and killing intent focused on Gareth.

“Do you want me to kill them?” Toxin Queen’s voice resounded in Boe’s head.

“Young miss, please tell your loyal dog to let me go or he’ll die before he’ll have a chance to do anything to me,” to everyone’s surprise, Boe suddenly looked at the girl and spoke in a very calm and confident voice.

“What did you say? Are you threatening me?” The old man was obviously enraged when he heard Boe’s words. He took out his sword from his back and his killing intent locked on Boe’s body. Shockingly, he was a rank 7 wizard. In any little country he would already be a king or at least a terrifying powerhouse and yet he was just a bodyguard of the little girl.

“Sir Jacob, put your sword down and let them both go.” The girl looked at Jacob with a warm smile on her face, and he couldn’t argue with her any longer. He put his sword back on his back, stood up and released Boe. When Gareth saw the scene, he immediately untied Kamys and walked away.

“Thanks for understanding, young miss,” Boe said with an indifferent look on his face, but his eyes were still focused on the girl.

“Boy, I’m quite interested in you. Your power back then was not something that the rank 1 wizard should be able to unleash. Who are you and what’s your background?” Boe didn’t expect that the girl would suddenly speak to him, and he was now flabbergasted.

“Your highness, I’m Kamys Theodore of the ancient Theodore clan.” Kamys stood up and kneeled on one knee while bowing his head.

“I figured that you’re from the Theodore clan when I saw your attack and aura. That’s the only reason I decided to spare your lives. Is he from your clan as well?”

“No, he is just a friend of mine from the school I’m attending at the moment.”

“School? So you’re the “Child of Fire” of a current generation. You, tell me your origins and your battle teaching’s name.” The girl was acting as if she was Boe’s master. She pointed her delicate finger at him and was looking at him with a commanding look on her beautiful little face. Boe has never met anyone so arrogant, strong and yet attractive before.

“Young miss, I’m not a citizen of this country. So even if you are a princess or a queen herself, I have no obligations to obey your will. My background is very humble so it has no meaning to speak about it. My battle teaching is a secret I must keep or I will let my master down.” Boe was calm, resolute and not even a little bit arrogant when he was saying these words. He wasn’t a person that could easily be bullied or humiliated.

“You’re from another country? Then you can be a spy from our enemies, should I just execute you right now?” The girl slightly smiled, but her voice was as cold as ice. Boe’s boldness sparked an interest inside of her, she was a princess of The Shadow Kingdom so Boe was the first person who dared to speak to her like that. She was used to people obeying and flattering her, so his attitude was a breath of a fresh air to her.

“I’m from a small Green Plains Kingdom, so I’m definitely not a spy. And you should really stop talking about my execution or I won’t be able to stop a calamity from happening here.” Boe didn’t know how the Toxin Queen would react if things would go out of hand, but he didn’t want the girl in front of him to get killed. He was sincerely interested in her after all.

“You’re saying this nonsense yet again. Why don’t you show me what will happen if you’ll get attacked then?” The girl smiled mischievously and nodded at Jacob. The old man immediately moved in Boe’s direction with an intention of harming him.

“Eldest sister, please don’t kill him, it will only create more problems for me. If you can, just scare him off.” Boe looked at the girl, but spoke to the Toxin Queen with a pleading in his voice.

“You owe me one now,” Toxin Queen’s voice resounded in Boe’s head again.

Jacob was slowly walking toward Boe, but his mind was fully concentrated in case someone was actually here to secretly protect Boe.

When Jacob was two meters away from Boe, he suddenly felt an extreme pain in his right hand. When he looked at it, his hand was already slowly melting from a strange green fire. The pain was unbearable, but Jacob immediately cut off the part of his hand that was engulfed in green flames. He then jumped back from Boe and his face was filled with shock and fear.

“I warned you.” Boe glanced at Jacob with an indifferent look on his face and then turned his attention back to the girl.

“You attacked the royal guard! You will not live long enough to see tomorrow now!” Gareth yelled and took out his sword.

“Stop it. He didn’t attack, but only defended himself. Jacob should be grateful that he kept his life this time,” the girl glared at Gareth and he had no choice but to submit. “Young man and the elder who has just acted, please don’t take an offense. I, Brienne Karib, the princess of The Shadow Kingdom, ask to forgive me for my rash behavior.” Brienne bowed deeply and her attitude changed from the arrogant ruler into an obedient junior.

Kamys was stunned when he saw all that, the princess of the kingdom was bowing to Boe? There was someone protecting him from the shadows this whole time? Why did they even have to fight with Ligu assassins then? All these questions were rotating in Kamys’ head, but he didn’t dare to ask them right now.

Seeing Brienne’s reaction, Boe admired her even more. She wasn’t just gorgeous, powerful and talented. She had a very high intelligence, she managed to judge the situation in a mere seconds and then act according to the best plan to survive and maybe even create friendly relationships with Toxin Queen.

“That girl is actually not bad, you should make her your woman, little brother.” The Toxin Queen’s voice was unexpectedly very playful while saying this.

“Apologies accepted by me, and my eldest sister doesn’t really care about such a trifle matter. As long as you don’t attack me again, she won’t interfere with anything else.” Boe smiled at Brienne and noticed disappointment in her eyes.

“I still haven’t heard big brother’s name though?” A brilliant smile on Brienne’s face made Boe’s heart start beating faster and his mind stirred.

“Boe Nas.” He calmed himself down, but his voice was still a little shaky.

“So it’s big brother Boe, I will make sure I remember this name.” Her voice was as sweet and charming as song of sirens.

While Boe was intoxicated by Brienne, Kamys’ entire body was trembling. The legendary Dark Witch Brienne was actually acting this way in front of Boe… His respect toward Boe was just raised by another level.

“Alright, Jacob and Gareth, we shall leave now.” Brienne’s voice was overbearing and cold again as she turned around and started walking away.

“Young miss, I ask you and your loyal dogs to not leak the information about me or my eldest sister, or else she will definitely be angry.” Boe looked at Brienne’s back without blinking.

“Big brother Boe, I assure you that nothing that happened here will be known to anyone but us. By the way, please call me little Brie from now on.” Brienne winked at Boe and left, not giving him a chance to respond. Boe’s heart stopped beating when he saw Brienne’s enchanting wink and smile.

When they were already a few kilometers away from Boe and Kamys, Brienne stopped and looked at Jacob’s injury. Her face serious and voice cold, she said: “What was that power and at what rank is his eldest sister?”

“I haven’t ever seen anything like that power in my life. If I didn’t cut off my arm straight away, I’m sure I would die in just a few seconds. And I didn’t even see or feel where she attacked me from. This kind of strength should be at least equal to our king.” Jacob’s expression was very grim and his voice exhausted.

“Strength equal to my father? Whoever it was, we can’t afford to make her our enemy. It would be much better if we could befriend that Boe Nas and his sister. If he has someone of this level of power protecting him, then what is his background and what power is behind him? I’ll have to discuss this with my father and your arm needs to be healed by my father’s personal healer as well. Let’s go back to the royal city for now.”

“Your highness, do you want me to spy on them?” Gareth came forth and proposed to the princess.

“Idiot, they will know you’re spying on them, and it might make them hostile toward us. Jacob, when we’ll get back, make your men reevaluate Gareth. He is too rash and arrogant; I don’t want to see him as the royal guard anymore.” Brienne was displeased with Gareth’s behavior, but she didn’t even take a look at him as she ruined his career.

“You have a powerful protector?” Kamys slowly came closer to Boe and quietly asked.

“It was my eldest sister; she is my master’s disciple and he asked her to look over me. But she won’t be saving me anymore, I think I’ll have to pay a great price even for this time…” Boe didn’t know what to expect from the Toxin Queen since he now owed her a favor. What would she need from the little weak kid anyways?

“If your eldest sister is that powerful, then what is your master capable of?”

“I have no idea what kind of power does my master wield. I only know that he’s far more formidable than I can imagine. Kamys, please keep this all a secret for me, otherwise my master will be very displeased with me.” Boe could only awkwardly smile. He really didn’t know The Strongest’s real power. When he has just met his master, he thought that he was just a powerful demon hunter, but now he understood that even rank 9 wizards didn’t know anything about the fact that they lived in a “tiny world”. Was his master a rank 10 wizard or is there realms beyond rank 10? This matter was too far from Boe for now so he just threw it to the back of his head.

“I will take this secret to my grave, brother Boe. But your so-called “humble” background doesn’t seem to be as you’re describing it.” Kamys has finally smiled and his usual cheerful attitude came back.

“Before I met my master, I was just a silly village boy who was dreaming to become a rank 3 demon hunter.” Boe smiled in response and his eyes were filled with sadness.

“Demon hunter? Is that some kind of profession back in your country? Did your people actually hunt the demons?” When Kamys’ heard about demon hunters, he didn’t even notice Boe’s mood and showered him with questions.

“Don’t let your imagination run wild, in my home country we just called wizards like that and that’s it. I don’t think anyone of current or previous generations of my country even met any demon in their lifetime.” Wizards of the Green Plains Kingdom were called demon hunters just because the king himself defeated a demon army few hundred years ago.

“Ah, that’s a bummer. My clan has fought with demons all the time since we were chosen to guard south borders of our kingdom, so I hoped that you might be from a similar family.” Kamys was raised to hate demons because of his clan, so anyone who opposed demons were kindred spirits for him.

“So, about that Brienne Karib… Is she a princess of The Shadow Kingdom?” Boe was rather interested in her, but all he knew about her was her name.

“Don’t tell me you have fallen in love with the Dark Witch?!” Kamys’ voice almost cracked in a middle of his sentence.

“I wouldn’t call that love… But I’m interested in her.” Boe felt awkward, even though Kamys was his best and only friend, he has never discussed this kind of things with anyone before.

“She is a third daughter of the King Karib, Brienne Karib. People call her the Dark Witch because her talent in shadow attribute magic is just abnormal. She has a level 4 affinity toward it. I have a level 3 affinity toward fire attribute and yet I’m already called the “Child of Fire”, can you imagine what kind of existence she is?” Kamys’ voice was filled with fear and awe when he was talking about Brienne. Boe imagined how would Kamys react if he told that he has a level 4 affinity as well.

“So she’s a successor of the king?”

“No, successor has to be male, so it’s her older brother, but she’s definitely the favorite child and her future is limitless. If you have plans on wooing her then just drop it. All the talents of our kingdom are already pursuing her and even princes and talents from other kingdoms and empires are trying their best to get her. I even heard that current Crown Prince of The Elf Kingdom wants to marry her and thus create an alliance with our kingdom.” Kamys was smiling and shaking his head as if Boe had no chances.

“You don’t know me too well, I guess. If I want something or someone to be mine, I will eventually obtain it.” Boe’s voice was arrogant and yet resolute. He was the future Demon Emperor after all, how could a woman he wanted elude his grasp?
