Chapter 34 - A friendly duel

During their journey to Fordothrond City, Boe and Kamys spent most of their time sparring against each other to grasp the new power they possessed after their breakthroughs. Each of their clashes created shockwaves that would severely injure any ordinary rank 1 wizard. Dark elves were looking at these spars with utter disbelief on their faces, they were sure that ordinary rank 2 wizards had no chance to block even one attack from those two monsters.

At the second night, when everyone was already sleeping, Kamys and Boe sneaked out of the camp and found themselves a deserted area far away from their camp. For two previous days, they were just sparring without using any of their actual power, but both of them felt a burning desire to battle it out with their full might for once. They agreed to go all out and stop only if opponent’s life was in danger.

As two young men arrived at a secluded little field within the dark forest, they stopped moving and suddenly glanced back at the same time.

“As expected of my two big brothers, you knew I was behind you the whole time.” Brienne walked out of shadows with a dazzling smile on her face.

“The technique you used to hide in shadows is spectacular, but I’m the shadow attribute rank 2 wizard now so there was no reason for you to even try that.” Usually Boe was happy to see her, but right now he was only interested in the upcoming battle. And the last couple of days gave Boe an opportunity to become used to her being close to him, so he was no longer losing his composure because of her appearance.

“I won’t disturb you, you can fight to your hearts’ content.” Brienne didn’t back down even a bit as she slowly moved closer to Boe and Kamys by happily jumping from shadow of one tree to shadow of another one.

“Brienne, you should go back now or your guard will disturb us during the fight.” Boe tried to come up with anything to try to make Brienne leave him and Kamys alone to enjoy their fight.

“This time I warned them and they let me go after they heard that I would be with you, big brother Boe.” Brienne’s eyes were sparkling as she tried to look as honest as she could.

“Brother Boe, I don’t think we’ll be able to change miss Carib’s mind anyway, so let’s not waste our time on that and start our duel?” Seeing that both of them didn’t want to give up, Kamys had no choice but to intervene and stop this useless talk.

Boe looked at Kamys for a moment and then simply nodded.

“Miss Carib, please stay a few more dozen meters away from us as to ensure your safety.”

“Sure.” Brienne hurriedly agreed and jumped back a few times before stopping and sitting down on a huge boulder.

“Brother Boe, please go easy on me.” Kamys’ mouth was crooked in a kind and simple smile, but there was a scorching flame burning in his eyes. Right after he finished his sentence, Kamys’ eyes and hair changed in color, but this time they weren’t completely red like they used to be. After Kamys finished Dark Elf King’s Trials, strange specks of white light appeared in his pupils and a pure white strand of hair was mixed in with his crimson hairs. Previously, Kamys’ aura was fiery and majestic, but now it became a lot softer. But even though Boe felt that pressure coming out of Kamys weakened, he saw an immense power building up in Kamys’ body. And the image of the bird behind Kamys was now a lot more realistic and there was a strange sphere of white light in the area of bird’s heart.

“It’s the first time we fight each other using our real strength. Let’s have some fun.” Seeing Kamys’ transformation and confidence, Boe immediately activated his demonification form. An ominous aura exploded out of Boe’s body and air around him immediately started shaking. Boe’s eyes now looked like two pools of blood as he looked at Kamys with a cold look on his face.

“It’s even more terrifying than before…” Brienne felt a cold shiver run down her spine as she looked at Boe’s back from the distance.

Young men were standing in front of each other in a middle of the forest as a full moon shone down through the leaves of the surrounding trees, illuminating the upcoming battle of two opposites - one who blazed brighter and warmer than the sizzling sun, and the other, whose aura was colder and darker than the winter moon.

“Ottuukush Oigonuu” Kamys activated his “Awakening of the Phoenix” technique to boost his speed and create a burning shield around his body. He was planning to use his advantage of a physical training to fight Boe head-on.

Seeing Kamys chant the technique, Boe didn’t wait even a moment before launching his body in an arc to attack Kamys. Boe decided not to use any weapons or techniques for now, he wanted to depend only on his demonification form and thirteen moves of his battle teaching.

When he saw Boe coming at him with an incredible speed, Kamys smiled and took a fighting stance he learnt from his father. Just a couple of meters away from Kamys, Boe suddenly twisted his body at an unpredictable angle; he was now descending toward Kamys with a terrifying momentum. Seeing Boe flying at him at a such strange angle, Kamys braced himself and decided to meet his opponent with a kick of his own.

*BOOM*

An explosion of energy created shockwaves that destroyed all surrounding trees within a radius of twenty meters and a crater appeared beneath the place of an impact. Scarlet flames were burning on the ground, but they were quickly extinguished by the cold black energy of a shadow attribute.

Kamys was standing just a meter away from the place he was initially at, but Boe was actually sent flying off into the distance. When two young men exchanged their first blows, Boe miserably lost. Boe’s leg was slightly trembling, but his face was as calm as always. He was prepared for such an outcome because he knew beforehand that Kamys’ main advantage was in the well-trained powerful body.

But to Kamys, that first exchange was actually a surprise. Kamys was trained by his father from his childhood and he also activated the secret technique of his clan, but Boe had actually fought without using any techniques.

A few moments later, energy undulations disappeared and Boe’s leg was no longer trembling. Kamys took an offensive stance and was prepared to attack now. Regeneration abilities of two rank 2 wizards were astonishing and all these minor injuries were nothing but tiny scratches to them.

As soon as Boe noticed Kamys’ attitude change, he knew that it was time to get serious. Boe’s eyes flashed with a chill light as he moved toward Kamys. The illusion he experienced before taught him that he had to fight against his enemies without holding anything back.

Kamys was moving quicker than Boe and each of his movements was polished to the extreme, he didn’t make any superfluous movements. And Boe’s movements were all according to his battle teaching, which was one of the highest ranked magical arts in the entire world, so even though Boe was slower, he had an advantage of technique.

*BAM* *BAM* *BAM* *BAM* *BAM*

In just a few seconds, Boe and Kamys exchanged more than ten blows before they both retreated a few steps back from each other. After this small encounter, it was obvious who held an upper hand. Kamys’ “Awakening of the Phoenix” exhausted itself after it defended him from six Boe’s attacks, but he himself was not injured at all. On the other hand, Boe’s fists were already bloodstained and there were quite a few visible injuries all over his body.

Boe looked at his body and his fighting spirit burned even stronger. He lost to Kamys even when he used his mysterious thirteen moves of the battle teaching! Boe now had only one thing he could use to win this battle, so he calmly closed his eyes.

‘Mastema!’ Boe shouted in his mind. He was planning to use his final trump card right now. He wanted to experience what kind of strength he would gain from using Mastema’s power.

Brienne was standing on the boulder, calmly watching the battle unfold. Her eyes were sparkling from seeing Boe’s strange movements. In her opinion, the technique Boe trained in was an extremely high level one for sure. She tried to analyze and repeat those movements, but for some reason they seemed impossible to copy. Even though she saw that Kamys’ movements were stronger and his combat experience was far richer, she had already saw all of that before when she visited Theodore clan with her father.

She was now interested in what kind of ability would Boe use after that two continuous losses in previous exchanges.

Suddenly, the world around them became darker and temperature of their surroundings rapidly decreased. A look of disbelief appeared on Brienne’s face when she saw Boe’s aura becoming even colder and more sinister with each passing second. She previously saw his strange aura on the stage of trials, but it was dozen times weaker than what she was feeling right now. She was called a “Dark Witch” because of her talent in the shadow attribute and she always considered herself to be a powerful shadow wizard. But now she saw the shadow attribute battle aura gathered around Boe as if he was a dark king of this world and even the nature had to submit to him.

Boe’s eyes snapped open as he stared at Kamys with his blood red eyes. Kamys felt a cold sweat on his back just from a single gaze of Boe. Even though Kamys was looking at his friend in front of him, he couldn’t shake off the feeling that it wasn’t Boe standing before him, but some kind of an ancient demon. Boe’s body was the same as usual, but there was a strange black mist around him. Kamys concentrated on that mist and noticed that it was shaped in form of a strange silhouette with five curved horns on its head.

“Since you decided to fight with your full strength, I shall accompany you, brother Boe.” Seeing Boe’s terrifying aura, Kamys understood that in his current condition he had no hope of winning the battle, so he decided to try out the new technique, which appeared in his mind after he left the illusion of the trial of the leader.

“SCREEE”

A high-pitched voice of a bird resounded from within Kamys as his aura soared up to the skies all of a sudden. The sound of that screech was exactly the same as the voice of the snow-white bird from Kamys’ illusion at the trial of the leader. Inside of the bird’s image behind Kamys, a white sphere of light suddenly erupted. Bird’s body grew and its color slowly changed from scarlet red to bright crimson. Flames around Kamys’ body also kindled with the crimson shades and his hairs now became as white as snow. But the strangest thing was the change to Kamys’ eyes, they had already transformed from his regular brown to lava-like red after he called upon the power of his bloodline and now inside of each of his eyes were a silhouette of a little snow-white bird. The birds in Kamys’ eyes were moving non-stop inside of his pupils as if they were taking baths in lakes of lava.

Just a few seconds ago, everything around them was dark and cold because of Boe’s aura, but after Kamys’ transformation it all changed. Invisible ripples were appearing everywhere as the shadow attribute battle aura fought against the fire battle aura. A hundred-meter radius around Boe and Kamys became the battlefield of eerie black chilling energy against the fiery bright crimson flames. Right in a middle between the two young men, two opposite battle auras clashed against each other, creating countless tiny explosions. Each of these explosions would tear apart a body of a mortal, but here it was nothing more than a collision of two auras.

Seeing Kamys’ sudden transformation, Boe’s eyes were blazing from desire to battle. He immediately charged at Kamys without even thinking for a second.

Kamys activated “Awakening of the Phoenix” technique and prepared himself to clash with Boe. Fiery crimson flames were burning around Kamys as everything under his feet momentarily burned into nothingness.

*BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM*

Boe’s each attack created waves of thick black energy, which penetrated Kamys’ defenses and made him tremble all the time. As a response, burning heat from Kamys’ attacks scorched Boe’s clothes and even a few burns appeared throughout Boe’s body.

Watching all of this unfolded, Brienne’s jaw dropped. She was the most talented daughter of her mighty father and during her entire life, she had never met anyone who could be her match at the same age as her. But right now, after witnessing the duel between these two friends, she felt that she would at most be equal to them and there was even a possibility that she might lose. Thinking that both of them had just became rank 2 wizards, while she was already not too far away from breaking through to rank 3, she felt like she was far too inferior. She even had to use her defensive technique to create a shield around her body to protect herself from the energy undulations of the fight.

After more than five minutes of constant battle, Kamys jumped back a little and Boe did the same in response. The area of their battle became a desolate land with no signs of life whatsoever. Some trees were burned down by bright crimson flames, other withered because of cold shadow attribute and the rest were just disintegrated by the power of explosions from Boe and Kamys’ battle.

Kamys’ body was uncontrollably shivering because Boe’s shadow attribute battle aura had already penetrated every part of his body. Kamys felt like he was a regular mortal standing in a middle of the snow field at night with no clothes on his body. Even his flames couldn’t get rid of this coldness in a short amount of time.

But Boe wasn’t in a much better situation either. Most of his clothes were already burned down into nothingness and there were a few serious burns all over his body. Even though all this damage would be healed over time, right now Boe’s body was in a very bad condition.

Boe and Kamys looked each other in the eyes and both understood that the next attack would be the deciding one. Kamys once again used his “Awakening of the Phoenix” and a fiery crimson burning shield appeared around him. Boe didn’t waste any time as he quickly ran toward Kamys.

Boe’s all remaining power was concentrated in his right fist as he was prepared to use his full might to defeat his friend. Kamys, on the other hand, concentrated half of his power on the shield and another half on his right leg.

Just a meter away from Kamys, Boe suddenly changed trajectory of his movement and attacked Kamys from the lower position. Even though Kamys was surprised by Boe’s sudden change in tactics, he was an experienced fighter, so he quickly reacted and transferred all of his power into the shield.

A fist covered in eerie black battle aura penetrated the bright crimson shield and Boe’s attack landed on Kamys’ body.

Right before his shield was broken, Kamys gathered all his remaining battle aura and crossed his arms on his chest.

*BOOM*

Kamys was sent flying back a few dozen meters before he was smashed into a huge rock.

*cough-cough*

Kamys coughed out a few droplets of blood before he raised his eyes to look at Boe.

“As expected, you won.” There was a regular brilliant smile on Kamys’ face even though he was experiencing a tremendous pain at the moment.

Boe barely was standing straight in the same location where he landed a hit on Kamys’ body. The sinister aura had already vanished and Boe was back to his usual cold self.

“Kamys, you’re far stronger than me. I won only because you were holding yourself down and I went all out. You didn’t even try to actually attack me the entire time, you were always wasting most of your strength on defenses.” Boe was looking Kamys straight in the eyes as he was saying all of this.

“Brother Boe, don’t say all these things to comfort me.” Kamys tried to stand up, but he had no strength left in his body.

Boe slowly walked up to Kamys and helped him to get up.

“That was awesome! You two are incredible!” Brienne’s overjoyed voice woke two friend up from their thoughts about the battle. She was already walking toward them with a bright smile on her face and obvious excitement was emanating from her.

“Next time, I will make you fight seriously,” Boe whispered without even looking at Kamys.
