B2 | Chapter 31 - Ducks and Angels

Cassandra

Year 820 | Month 5 | Day 8

“By the way,” Dad comments after giving me the information about where the closest angel is. The capital of the Duchy of Viette. “What… is that?”

I glance at him before looking where he is pointing. At which point I find Thrix 2 being fed by some of the soldiers.

Oh. Right.

I forgot I dumped him on a random ship after reaching the lake and seeing Gluttony.

Although…

Thrix 2 looks rather happy right now while being fed by the soldiers, so it’s probably fine.

“That’s Thrix 2,” I answer as I turn back towards Dad, who is currently looking at Thrix 2 with a very bewildered expression on his face. “He’s a pet I found in the Dark Forest when I first got away from the New Earth Alliance.”

“A… pet?” Dad asks, still frowning at the duck-like creature. Then he just stares at Thrix 2 as the duck chows down on… uh…

I do a double-take at Thrix 2 when I realize just what he’s eating.

Are they feeding him… duck?

Uh…

Well, so long as he enjoys it, it’s probably fine?

“Yeah, don’t mind him,” I eventually state, deciding not to question anything involving the petrifying duck-goose monster thing. “Keep him fed and he’ll probably be happy until I get back.”

Dad stares at Thrix 2 for a few more seconds as he mutters, “Right…” Then he turns to me and nods, saying, “I wish you good tidings in your hunt.”

“Thanks,” I respond with a nod of my own head, having grown tired of any sort of the royal formalities I’ve learned over the years at this point.

Not that those royal formalities really matter much for me anymore since I’m being treated better than the kings by the Guardians.

He looks a little surprised for a second before smiling at me, implying he doesn’t really care about formalities anymore either.

Then I go ahead and jump off of the ship and begin heading in the direction of the capital of the duchy.

Something I noticed while talking with Octavia earlier is that for some reason it feels as if The Calling of Wrath has had its cooldown brought to an early end, allowing me to use the skill again.

Which is the only reason I’m confident enough to go attack an angel right now.

It’s also most likely because of the gluttony energy I absorbed not too long ago.

I run all the way around the lake before going through the duchy in the direction of the capital. And when I arrive at the capital itself, I find the capital itself surrounded by the forces of our kingdom, with a couple of our generals standing by. Since the capital is the last place standing for the New Earth Alliance.

With the exception of a couple islands off of the main continent. Islands that may have already been evacuated from what Dad said.

Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.

Which would be a pain. Since he said the New Earth Alliance was showing signs of appearing on Ardene.

And I really don’t want to ever go to Ardene.

It’s not a pleasant place.

Anyways, looking around the capital, I find hundreds of New Earth Alliance forces powering a large barrier around the capital. Blocking out our kingdom’s forces from pressing into the capital itself.

Meanwhile I sense a powerful presence at the center of the capital. Directly on top of the castle itself.

Then again, I don’t really need to sense it. Considering that I can see the angel just standing at the top of one of the castle’s towers from my place here.

And the angel is staring directly back at me in return.

Name: Grandelle

Species: Angel

Level: ??(30)

Hmm. This angel is at the same level as me.

Shouldn’t be too hard.

As long as the beast I transform into is powerful, that is.

The angel and I stare at each other from our respective places before he flaps his wings and flies straight out of a small hole that forms in the barrier, heading towards me. Only for the angel to slowly lower himself down to the ground a couple dozen meters in front of me on the open plain I’m standing on once he gets close enough.

And once again, we just stare at each other. Taking the other in.

The angel this time has the same white, angelic wings that the others I’ve seen have had, but this one has short golden hair and eyes. Making them the only angel I’ve seen with short hair.

That’s not the only strange thing about him though. Because this angel also looks less arrogant than the others.

I glance back at the barrier to find some sort of massive spell circle forming around the castle itself. One I don’t recognize beyond a slight familiarity with the affinity that I’ve seen before elsewhere.

Making me realize it’s spatial magic.

Which is enough to know that the spell is to teleport them somewhere.

But where?

To one of the islands?

Teleportation spells shouldn’t be able to take people too far away. So those islands are the only places I can see them teleporting to.

And in that case, this angel is probably…

“I see you’ve already realized,” the angel begins, bringing my gaze back to him again. “Yes, I am stalling you. But what can you do about it?”

I raise a brow at him before sighing and replying, “I’ll just need to deal with you before that spell finishes.”

“Let’s see if you can,” the angel, Grandelle, says with a completely serious look on his face.

Then I activate The Calling of Wrath.

Due to your use of the skill The Calling of Wrath’s first effect, the following changes have been made to your status:

All stats while transformed will be doubled.

All attacks will disturb the Wrath energy within whatever is hit, causing it to run rampant in their body, sending very minimal amounts of true damage to various parts of them.

The Temporary Skill ‘Call of Wrath’ has been given to you to use once. This skill will release all of the Wrath built up within your body at once in a single breath attack. However, the longer you have been in beast form, the weaker the breath attack will be.

These changes will last either till three hours have passed, or you use the Call of Wrath skill.

Note: Whether you use the skill or not, it will vanish once you revert back.
