Chapter 29: Like Spears of Heaven

Chapter 29: Like Spears of Heaven

Diplomacy went... terribly. Luckily, no one had planned for a diplomatic end to the conflict. With the unique parties involved, such a result would be an aberration anyway. The Order of Melthazar isn't planning on falling behind in what is clearly going to end up becoming a new stage in the conflict, one with more united fronts than the War of Lysan Secession. As such, the Order has been researching new facilities that appeared. Vergus may be an old scholar, but he has extensively researched this planet. His services were drafted by the Order when they found him close to a destroyed city.

"By the gods, look at these things! They are similar to some of the munitions The Lost use, but much larger!" Vergus is in awe at the large collection of metallic tree trunks.

"Focus on the task scholar." One of the paladins escorting him is clearly more interested in what these things can do for the Order.

Krantz walks through the facility, his hand going over the large missiles. A gift from the people of Earth's past. Nearly perfectly preserved considering the conditions these things must have been under. Chaos magic was still flowing freely through the place, but The Lost... the people of Earth are some of the most prepared experts when it comes to chaos magic, as the planet was apparently bathed in it before the Central Governor reared its ugly head.

The facility is a veritable treasure trove of history, but considering the information release by BARZA they might not need to look here for history. It revealed that our history roughly lined up with 1960s earth, with an anomaly happening sometime in that year. Krantz doesn't know what 1960s earth looked like, but he can leave the details up to eggheads. What matters to Krantz, are the missiles adorned in little red flags, their symbols strike color unto the white hulls of the weapons. The Lost don't have many missiles this big, and the ones that they do are launched by ships. These are clearly... for a much larger purpose.

----------------------------------------

But the magicless weapons must be empowered with magic, the weapons of The Lost generate large amounts of light, thus light magic should be the most optimal way to go about it. Many commonly believe that The Scourge are power hungry wizards looking to gather power in a crude manner, but the most effective weapon in the arsenal of The Scourge is a kernel of truth hidden in a lie. The collection of powerful artifacts would be more appropriate, and they should have a few light-artifacts which could fit the bill. Not to mention, the [Seraphim] would likely survive if the weapons were empowered with light magic.

----------------------------------------

What doesn't escape the elves keen senses, is that there are clearly some... missing. Used by the supposed former inhabitants, what could drive a planet to such an act of self-destruction? Pash'tarva has more than often been called insane murderers, but the usage of these weapons on one's own home planet is the real insane prospect. Luckily for the elves, this isn't their planet. Not yet at least. These weapons would surely render the planet inhabitable, but they are a nice back-up. Transporting powerful weapons cross-planet is a monitored affair, and taken very seriously by all planets for precisely this reason. Even [The Veil] aids in the monitoring, and a good thing too. This planet has too many rampaging monstrosities as is. A union of necromancers? Planetary fanatics? A veritable insane angel? This planet is both a blessing and a curse.

As the portal closes, the [Splinter of [Space]] investigates its surroundings better. It was put in charge of the operation, and this facility is the only one far enough away from the other major powers. The... alliance with the servant of [Time] is a shaky one, and not one left to chance. Their gestalt determined that while relations with the original natives aren't as bad as they could be, the servant of [Time] is the exception to this. It was deemed similar to the great hunter, which had previously nearly annihilated their species. The great hunter is unlikely to find success if it were to make contact with [The Veil], as the only ones who have actually explored space, the servants of it know its dangers better than this planet does. There are truly dark things hiding between the stars, always lurking for unaware prey.

----------------------------------------

As such, BARZA determines that this facility, alongside its great stock, is to be brought back online and ready for use. In its own record, these silos were demilitarized extensively in 2070, but somehow time had a funny way of dealing with this issue. Despite having clearly gone unattended for centuries, these facilities from the twentieth century only have a layer of dust on them. BARZA makes eager calculations of what it can do with this facility, and registers one of the drones sent in mutating from rampant chaos mana.

The mutating drone begins to shift its metallic plating, and flesh grows in between the wires. BARZA registers the transformation as eagerly as an AI can, and once the process completes, a massive mutant lies on the floor. When The Lost refer to things as mutants, they are more right than they could have ever believed to be. Mana is a strange energy, which deserves a classification all on its own. A force driven by concepts, and not just concepts made by standard humans. Animals, mutants, plants even AI, and most likely golems by extension are affected by this. A power that shapes the world with enough practice. The being that used to be one of the bulkier combat models was changed by chaos magic, a power which BARZA theorizes is actually the conceptual made of the concept. An almagation of multiple idea's, crudely shaping the target. One could even say that chaos magic is the true will of mana in this manner.

"" With a single command, the other drones approach the massive mesh between metal, dinosaur and man. The creature would have made a fearsome organic, but its flesh serves a greater purpose.

As BARZA runs another diagnostic of the situation, it can't help but feel as if it's missing something.
