Chapter 4: Drudge

Author’s Notes

I'd like to know what you guys think about the AEXP system I've put in to far since I'm thinking to expand it further than it already is. I already have some additions planned into the story but I'm curious to hear what you guys think.

I'd also like to encourage you guys to point out any mistakes I make to help me improve my writing.

Thank you for reading my story.

I decided to try and leave the room again with a little more caution than last time. Moving through the halls I find myself drifting through the still air down the path I previously followed that skeleton. As I'm uneasy about leaving floating about I decide to stay high enough that I'm practically eye level with the shade torches as I pass as an extra precaution. Just as I reach the hall were the skeletons slaughtered the merrow, looking down the corridor I find some merrow walking toward my location but they seem to be chatting away. I almost panicked are fled at the sight of them. Thankfully I almost instinctively jumped into the nearest shade torch.

As they got closer to me I recognised the merrows as the 4 that fought the skeletons, there was even still the 1 that was massacred trailing in the back. Two  were wearing some kind of gauntlets with one was holding a strange spear and the last what looks like a large bone fragment.Remembering what shade said about not being able to kill in the dungeon I managed to calm myself before my mind started to wander chaotically.Once they got half way towards the end of the hall and the torch I was hiding in, skeletons came round the corner and started fighting them.

Watching the fight made me question why they would come back if they experience death fighting the skeletons. As the fight progressed it dawned on me that the merrow have improved in a short time, they’re still as strong as before but the way they fight has improved and none of them charged in at the other’s expense like last time. They must be using  this as a training ground of some sort.

When the first 6 skeletons were nearly beat 3 more came round the corner and joined the fight as back up. I noticed that the reinforcements had better weapons one had an iron sword while 2 had proper spears.Soon the fight came to an end with the skeletons finding  themselves as piles of broken bones or bone fragments, oddly enough each seemed to be dispersed into neat piles with their previous weapons at the sides. I watched waiting till the merrows left the area but as I was watching them I noticed that he merrow were arguing about something in a language I've never heard before. The one with the gauntlets that stayed silent through their bickering suddenly got up and gathered all of the weapons a total of 7. 1 iron sword, 2 spears and 4 copper swords. They suddenly went quiet and lowered their heads, the merrow holding the weapons past the iron sword and a copper sword too the merrow holding the bone fragment weapon. Then it moved and passed a spear and copper sword to the one with the bone spear. Lastly it handed the last spear to the merrow that was previously killed, while keeping two copper swords for itself.

The merrow that have the bone weapons suddenly drop them and start swinging their new weapons, testing them. After a few minutes the seem to smile except the one with an air of authority and then leave going down further into the tunnel before taking an offshoot tunnel right next to where I was hiding.

After watching them leave I sank in the air until I was right next to the skeleton bones. But before I started to eat them I decided to observe the weapons that those merrow dropped.

WhaleBone Spear

This is a weapon made from a large whale bone. Commonly used by the merrow that haven’t been recognised as adults as well as is a symbol of their rights in the clan. If a higher ranking member removes this weapon from them or gives them a new weapon, the young merrow will be then to undergo their ritual for passing to adulthood.

AEXP: 300-350

WhaleBone Blade

This is a weapon made from a large whale bone fragment. Commonly used by the merrow that haven’t been recognised as adults as well as is a symbol of their rights in the clan. If a higher ranking member removes this weapon from them or gives them a new weapon, the young merrow will be then to undergo their ritual for passing to adulthood.

AEXP: 250-300

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

I didn’t expect to get lore about the merrow when I scanned their weapons. Well it might be useful to know later but for now these are just sweet AEXP.

Oh yea before I forgot, I figured out why I use so much mana to eat earlier, it was because I was using all of my skills strength at once. Entropic mist mist breaks down matter into an energy from I can eat and if I use it at full power it's fast, but if I only have it at the bare minimum it only uses a few mana per minute and only take a few seconds longer. I only found that out thanks the the shade glass I had in that first room. Anyway enough explaining back to my AEXP.

Eating the weapons got me 312 and 270 AEXP but that's not all. When I started to eat the bones I could taste them, and they were delicious, it was like eating a fine tuna steak with a prawn sauce coating the whole thing. It was delightful and I savored every second I had eating it. As soon as it was done I turned to the tasteless skeletons by which I mean literally since the skeleton I had earlier was almost like eating air.

As I moved on from my first taste of proper flavor since reincarnation a couple of hour ago, I drifted over to the skeletons and started eating them away earning myself 1350 AEXP but as I was finishing the last of the skeletons a new window popped up in front of me.

Skill Exchange Possible Random chance to buy a skill has been unlocked in [Exp Conversion(variant)]skill. Skill available for trade, this trade is only available while this window is still open. Window can only be closed by accepting or declining AEXP trade.

Would you like to trade?

Trade: 3000 AEXP for Skill Advance of the Drudge?

Current AEXP: 3233Yes/No

I didn’t even think and trade all that AEXP for this new skill almost as soon as I registered what this was. I was excited to find out that my skill had hidden abilities or at least that ability. I didn’t even register what the skill was until I brought up the skill to see only to have mixed feelings.

Advance of the Drudge Beginner 1

This skill Causes the user to lose 50% of earned EXP.This skill gives the use 10% resistance to physical, magical and mental damage and effects.

A Drudge is an individual that works hard and suffered for gain but unlike those that gain big, a Drudge will have a constant gain from all there hard work and due to their hard work they can fight longer and harder if they can last long enough.

It's a heavy loss with losing my EXP potential like then but the more I think about it, even a small amount of resistance can make a huge difference especially since this skill gives me so much different resistances. I wanted to know what it meant by the 3 types of resistances they were and when I checked the I was glad that I traded for this skill. Physical was pretty obvious, while magical and mental were exactly what I hoped for mental essentially gave me resistance to illusions, mind control and other mind bending effects.

Magical on the other hand was better than I hoped. It essentially made me stronger against all forms of magic from light to dark and all inbetween, I was also pleasantly surprised to see Holy and demonic separated from light and dark.

When I left the hall, a refreshing sight was found in the corridor I was floating down. There was a skeleton walking about in full military attire. As I was drifting past. The skeleton lifted its hand and saluted me. Since I was a little more than just curious at this skeleton I decided to observe it.

Tim(Skeleton Staff Sergeant) level 24 This skeleton was created by a beginning necromancer  while he was being nostalgic. He sent Tim to fight alongside his stronger creations, only to never see him again while he still worked for the necromancer through his second in command. During this time Tim became his current rank as a Staff Sergeant and even became a higher level than his creator before coming to this world by accident. Tim is almost unbeatable at strategy.

I left with a feeling I've met him before, I just can’t place it. Nevermind I'll just roam the dungeon trying to get stronger.
