Veil One
September 1st – Veil One Archway
When morning arrived, Nate and Kenya woke up in a meadow.
An imposing stone archway stood before them.
They walked through it. The archway figured intricate geometrical shapes and star designs, as if speaking a celestial language. Once through, the colours of the city were soft white, pastel colours and light blues. In front of them were luminous buildings that stood tall when observed, yet vanished like waves on a shoreline. Nate did a double take. What? They reappeared every time he looked. He remained still for an extended time, not wishing to interrupt the surreal moment.
“It’s like the particle-wave theory!”

“The what?” Kenya asked.
“I can’t get my head around explaining it now, but I will,” said Nate, transfixed by an ornate, white building. It shimmered in the sunlight, with its mosaic tiles sparkling in the breeze.
Kenya shook her head. “I’ve seen all this before, but it’s still amazing!”
They walked further into the city. Decorated doorways abounded with more intricate geometrical carvings and an enchanting aura. Art nouveau architecture was a common theme, with nature and civilization coexisting in harmony. There was an aroma of fresh linen and musty tree bark. If Kenya hadn’t called him to continue into the city, Nate would have stopped for hours. On their walk, more buildings appeared and vanished as though windswept.
They stopped where a group of Veil Ones encircled a site. All genders wore liquid-like fabric that draped to the floor. Others had clothes with starfish shapes or gentle ripples on them. Nate gawked at the fabrics, overwhelmed by an urge to feel the texture. It was dreamlike. How does it move like that?
“What are they doing?” asked Nate, enraptured.
“They are manifesting a new home. Anything’s possible here,” said Kenya.
The voices of the people mingled together in a harmonious hum.
