Chapter 36: Shadow Strike

Machia Veil Timeline

Nate lost his grip and became winded when the stranger hit him. He got his right cheek, but he rolled on his back to avoid another hit. Running away from the man. He kept his distance. Nate guessed he was fighting with an Arch, and he let out a guttural roar. All those weeks in Club 7. This was his chance to release all the fury he had inside. But the Arch pulled out a knife and Nate balked. Standing back. The Arch moved the knife in a back-and-forth motion. Nate grabbed a large branch and swung it with all his might until the Arch lost his knife. Nate then barrelled towards him again.

“Stop! Stop!” Kenya screamed.

Nate and the Arch grappled with each other. The Arch still trying to get away.

“What do you want?” Nate bellowed.

The men hurled down the hill. The Arch pulled out a gun. Nate was fast and jerked the gun out of his reach. Kenya’s hands shook as she grabbed it, shrieking in fear that it would fire. She pressed the mag release and the bullet mag fell out. She hit the Arch with it. But he didn’t pass out. He became more violent. She threw the gun over the cliff and sprinted back to tackle him.

“Get the rope!” said Nate, who had pinned him on the ground.

Kenya returned with the rope they used to tie the mares to the trees.

“I wish we could just…” she struggled. “Knock him out!”

“Help me,” said Nate, rolling him to the edge of the cliff.

The man muffled a grunt.

They perched him on the edge. Close enough to sense the drop, but not so close that he would plummet.

“We’re right behind you. If you so much as move, we’ll kick!” said Nate.

Nate and Kenya jumped on the horses and galloped up a hill. On the hill was a camper van and a hang glide.

They exchanged glances.

“Oh my,” she whispered.

“We have to,” said Nate.

He dismounted the horse and helped Kenya off.

“The horses!” said Kenya.

Nate secured Kenya onto the hang glide with the straps. She made small jumps. Then he put his own on. They picked up speed and went soaring off the cliff.

“Woo-hoo!” they screamed.

Nate did a double take as a woman emerged from the campervan. “Ellis?”
