Ch. 34 Collateral Damage

Ch. 34 Collateral Damage

In the middle Blueberry Grove, one ancient dragon was losing at chess. His huge forehead was full a creases. Three piles of treasure were on the line. And, worst of all, the opponent that was wiping the floor with him was so drunk he could barely see the board.

“You done yet?” asked the rock monster before chugging another beer.

“I am clearly not,” huffed Bratley almost sending the board flying.

“Bro, I… ‘m gonna take a nap. Wake me up when… you lose.”

In a matter of seconds, the mythological creature 'Joe' fell asleep. The dragon considered cheating, but his opponent’s memory was legendary. Even after 1000 years, the bastard was still telling everyone of the time Bratley cheated at cards.

“What if…” thought the dragon while gently moving his giant claws to pick up a piece.

Suddenly, a large hoof stomped on the board crushing it to bits. It was a devil with more muscles and visible veins than a body builder. After a powerful flap of his wings, which sent the table's remains flying, the buff devil lifted his head.

“Bratley, I’ve come to…”

The intruder jumped out of the way a millisecond before a dragon breath tore through the earth. Bratley then turned his giant body smacking the devil with his tail.

“I’ve come to taaalk!” shouted Beelzebub while flying into space.

When Bratley came to his senses, he noticed Eligos and an army of trembling devils had surrounded him.

“Hey, Joe,” he pocked the rock monster. “Wake the hell up.”

“Huh? Why?” Joe rubbed his ruby eyes. “What happened? Wha…” The rock monster’s face turned marble white.

“We come in peace,” bowed Eligos.

“Pants!” growled Joe. The forest floor turned into spikes ready to skewer the entire army. “Now!”

On the undead army’s command vessel, the Nightwalker was getting more and more reports about the battle below.

“The fourth battalion commander has been defeated,” reported a skeleton. “The seventh battalion commander has risen from the ground and is joining the fray.”

“Is Nijaz still standing?” asked the Nightwalker.

“Yes, Sir. According to our images he’s the center of the battle.”

“Good,” nodded the general. “Then, it’s only a matter of time.”

Back on the ground, brains and bones were splattering everywhere. Except, they weren’t those of the enemy but those of innocent undead.

Since the three humans who brought about this disaster refused to stand still, the collateral damage was inevitable and plentiful. For some reason, the warrior would only run where scores of soldiers tried to duck for cover. The mage blinked in and out of their trenches, and while every hit from a commander would send the armored girl flying, her trajectory changed dramatically making her smash into troops like some kind of a homing missile.

“They’re near the zombie squad!” shouted the wraith. When the banshee screamed, the brains of all 10 zombies exploded.

“The other zombie squad!” shouted the wraith while slapping her own ghostly face. This fight was going nowhere. It was like playing catch while blindfolded in a room full of pottery.

“Level 212,” cheered Chloe after slicing a couple of heads on her way towards a magical tank.

“392,” smirked Seth while making his way towards the dulahan. The banshee was hard to approach and the ghoul was like a rabid dog. But, the dullahan’s skull cannon left him vulnerable with every attack.

“He’s going for commander Tortor!” shouted the wraith.

“So what?” Seth cackled. “Catch me if you can!”

As he approached the dullahan, Nijaz stepped in his way. Six long skeleton arms pierced out of his robe with three dark energy spheres appearing in each one.

“Payback,” muttered the lich.

Immediately, Alastar blinked behind him. As soon as the mage placed his hand on Nijaz, the two of them vanished.

“Your liver’s still on the line,” Seth shouted while lunging at the dullahan. The creature threw his head, and the warrior dodged. The wrath caught and threw it into Seth’s back.

“So, that’s where you were,” said the headless monster while grabbing hold of the warrior’s hair. He lifted Seth up like a mut by his scruff. Despite missing his head, the creature still dangled Seth at eye height.

"Aren't you cute killing off all our soldiers."

"I'm not smiling.” The warrior's lips went down. His eyes turned hollow. A storm of wind blades, fire, gravity, and electricity surrounded him and his enemy.

A moment later, the dullahan’s head contorted and screamed. Nijaz threw his energy spheres at the storm, but once they hit, both the commander and the warrior were gone.
