To go from Guyfast to Blueberry Grove, one had to pass the Devil’s Mountain Range. Fortunately for Seth’s companions, the pixie had developed a phobia against fighting devils. For once in this lifetime, he decided to follow the road.
Since Chloe couldn’t fly and refused to be carried by the middle aged, bearded mage with a bald spot, they had to borrow a carriage instead. The plan was to take the southern road and pass by the Devil’s Mountains without a fuss. But...
“If all goes well, we’ll reach Blueberry Grove in about a month,” said Alastar while scribbling something inside his book.
“Why so fast?” asked Seth.
“Because you’ve already killed every living creature on the way there!” In fact, since their previous journey had started from the northern area, there were still plenty of defenseless forests and cities for Seth to “save.” But, of course, the pixie didn’t need to know that.
“Good thing the devils and ghosts are staying put,” added the mage. “It looks like luck is on our side.”
Suddenly, the atmosphere turned silent. It wasn’t just due to everyone’s worries or due to Momo’s evil grin. Every bit of sound in their surroundings had been effectively snuffed out.
“You dare approach our lands, pixie?” a creepy voice called out to them.
“Nope,” said Seth sounding slightly panicked. “We are very much going around it.”
“Not good enough,” the voice returned. “Until our master returns, we cannot allow passage to anyone.”
“Huh?” Seth raised an eyebrow while hundreds upon hundreds of ghosts rained down on them from the mountains. “It’s just you guys?” he asked with a chuckle.
“What's that supposed to mean?”
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
“There are no naked devils hiding behind the trees?”
“Naked?” asked Chloe in an excited tone.
“Seth, if we fight them, the devils might return,” said Alastar.
“But, they haven’t returned yet!” After pulling out the epic rank sword given to him by the Queen, Seth began his onslaught. With no other choice, Alastar had to get involved as well.
Chloe and Momo watched from the carriage, one of them dreaming about being kidnapped while the other was getting annoyed.
‘This is too easy,’ grumbled the squirrel. ‘Where’s the bad luck?’
Suddenly, Seth’s brand new weapon disappeared in a puff of smoke. A second later, Alastar began taping his robe searching for his book.
“Ghosts, what did you do!?” the mage growled as if they had stolen his baby.
“This our chance!” yelled one of them before melting into stew. Alastar had released a wave of rotting energy which tore through the forest, melted the phantasms’ souls, and even left a giant hole into the base of the nearby mountain.
“Where is my book!?” shouted the mage while a murderous aura trickled outside his body.
Fortunately, just as the ghosts were about to retreat, their savior had arrived in the form of a large, naked devil.
“What is the meaning of this?” asked Eligos while waving his trident. “I barely manage to return, and you’re already attacking my subjects? Prepare to die!”
The devil took on an attack stance and armed his weapon. Except, it was gone. Like Seth’s sword and Alastar’s book, the trident had disappeared as well.
“My baby!” cried the devil. “Who is responsible for this!?”
“Ook,” Seth flew back towards the carriage. “I think it's time we make a heroic retreat.”
“Not without my book!” growled Alastar.
“What if more those perverts show up?”
“F**k’em!” The mage couldn’t care less. All of his life’s work, all the notes he had gathered across his countless adventures…
“Moses, take the horses’ reins and get Chloe out of here,” ordered Seth.
“She’s already gone,” the squirrel shrugged.
“Huh?” Everyone’s eyes then turned towards the carriage.
“The blue bracelet on her arm lit up a few times, and everything went poof including herself… and the horses.”
Only now did Alastar notice their carriage was empty. Their supplies, pillows, and even their water bucket had disappeared as if they were never there.
“Why didn’t you stop her!?” shouted Seth.
“I was… asleep?” the squirrel put on a meek expression only for his master to slap him between the ears. ‘So, he buys Yuki’s bulls**t and not mine?’ Momo grumbled but sucked it up.
His plan was working. Every time his passive bad luck skill activated, it would grow by a level. It was only level 2 at the moment meaning the current mess was just the beginning.
