Ch. 10 Trustworthy Allies

“Evil swine, prepare to join my minions.”

As if the army of devils wasn’t scary enough, the murderous ghosts returned as well. They circled the trio from every direction while the devils descended upon them from above.

“Mommy,” cried Momo while Seth surrounded himself with wind.

“This will be glorious,” he laughed in preparation for his next life.

“No thank you,” said Alastar while grabbing him by the wings. With his other hand he caught the squirrel, and then used his blink spell to escape the encirclement.

Unfortunately, the spell’s range was limited, so they only moved 10 meters above ground.

“Came to give me a kiss?” Unwittingly, Alastar teleported himself right in front of a devil that was now licking his lips while trying to embrace him.

‘F**k the hell no,’ the mage cursed before blinking 20 times until his mana ran out. “Seth, I need one of those chrystals,” he said while falling back towards the enemies.

“Why?”

“Because otherwise we’ll die, you wanker!” Alastar shook the careless pixie trying to vent his frustration. They were rapidly closing in on the ground while the devil army started flying towards them.

Fortunately, although Seth didn’t care much for dying, he was quite fond of this magical world. Plus, this quirky vassal of his was starting to grow on him.

“Fine,” he eventually agreed. “But only if you paint your beard white.”

“I’ll make it pink; just hand one over.”

“You’re Gandalf not Barbie,” the warrior complained while tapping Momo’s ring. ‘Now, if I can only find a dwarf and an elf,’ he smirked in satisfaction.

Thanks to the legendary grade mana stone, Alastar was soon bursting with power. He used blink 10 more times to regain his distance before flying like a rocket towards Guyfast.

“Don’t you want to fight them now that you’re juiced up?” Seth chuckled.

“Ha, of course I do,” the mage surprisingly agreed. ‘But, not here.’ Why would he sacrifice his mana stone when he could use people instead?

For all the devils’ big talk, they weren’t particularly fast. Alastar could probably out-fly them with his normal mana, let alone with a miniature power plant in his hand.

Just 20 minutes later, they reached the end of the mountain range. Up ahead, surrounded by thick, magically enchanted walls, was the city of Guyfast.

“Hey map guy,” Seth tapped him. “You’re not thinking about involving civilians, are you?”

“…Yes?”

“You’re fired!” Momo shouted.

“What he said,” added Seth. “We’re honorable knights, not monsters.”

‘Honorable my ass!’ Alastar grumbled. “Of course, Lord Seth,” was what he actually said. “How could I forget? In that case, how about we help the city’s garrison to fend off the attack?”

“Won’t that still put its people at risk?”

“With your Lordship's help, how could it? The people will see you as a hero, the knight that saved Guyfast. Wouldn't you agree?”

“Hm…” Seth was feeling a headache coming on. He was not used to this much thinking.

“Just say ‘yes,’ my lord, and I’ll take care of the rest.”

“He’s tricking you,” said Momo before Alastar covered his mouth. ‘Don’t trust him.’

In the meantime, their group had landed on the city walls. Some of the guards looked at them with awe, though most were preparing to engage the devils.

“Gandalf,” Seth said eventually.

“Yes?”

“I don’t care,” he decided after letting out a sigh.

“Huh?” for a moment, the mage was taken aback. “That’s great!” he added a second later while clapping his hands.

“I fight,” said Seth, and Alastar happily nodded. “You fix everything else.” This time, the mage’s smile was starting to wear off. “If one person dies, I’ll find another map guy.”

Alastar wanted to complain, but then Seth gazed at him with sparkling eyes full of trust.

“I know you can do it,” said the warrior before climbing on top of his steed.

“I can?” The mage was left in a daze.

Seth summoned his entire stash of rusty weapons and charged towards the naked horde.

“He can?” asked Momo while closing his eyes.

“Of course,” Seth shouted. “Otherwise, I’ll shove that chrystal up his ass!”

Back at the wall, Alastar heard everything. After gulping heavily, he started to move.
