Chapter 31:

Chapter 31:

Garrin and Barion arrive at the Baron’s mansion. Everything is charred as the only visible thing there being the ruins of the mansion. The Law Enforcement soldiers are still investigating the cause of the fire and the deaths of everyone who lived in the mansion.

“What’s the report?” asks Garrin.

The second in command of the Law Enforcement gives the report to Garrin.

“It seems that the entire building was razed by fire as evident. However, the assailant used an accelerant to accelerate the speed of the fire and thus burning everything down within a single night. Most of the bodies have turned to ash but we managed to find a few bodies that weren’t completely burned.”

They are shown the bodies that aren’t completely burned. All the bodies are mutilated, with half of them missing a limb or a head. Even though that is the case, all those bodies have one thing in common. And that is the giant scars all over them. Claw like scars ripped through their torso, back and even limbs.

“We believe some sort of monster was responsible.”

“Monster?” Garrin opens his eyes wide in shock.

“Yes. Judging from how these bodies are, no human being could kill people like this.”

Garrin narrows his eyes. If what the second in command is saying the truth, then that would mean the destruction of the Baron mansion had nothing to do with the Bandit Society. And Garrin wouldn’t have that. Because they are involved somehow. He could feel it deep down in his bones.

Then again, if it was the Bandit Society, Dread to be specific, then he wouldn’t mutilate bodies like this. The bodies he mutilated were either blown to smithereens by his punches or ripped from their sockets. These bodies however, where maimed by claws of some sort. Not only that, some of the still standing walls have claw marks all over them.

“We believe it’s a sentient monster.”

“And what makes you think that?”

“Because a witness came up. He told the lieutenant about everything he saw. He even said that the monster hasn’t left the city yet and is in hiding. He also revealed where he last saw the monster and the lieutenant took some men to investigate.”

Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings.

“And where is the witness now? I want to investigate him myself.”

“I’m sorry commander but he disappeared right after. We didn’t manage to find him. Of course, we notified the others to be on high alert and report if they discover him.”

Garrin remains quiet and strokes his chin.

Hmm, something isn’t right about this whole thing. How convenient is it that when we were investigating this incident, a witness shows up out of nowhere and tells us about what attacked here and where he believes it still is. Something isn’t right at all.

“We should chase after the lieutenant then just in case this ‘monster’ truly is still in the city.” The one who speaks is Barion.

Garrin opens his eyes wide realising that fact and starts running to the location of the supposed monster.

In the deepest part of Waham.

In an abandoned warehouse that has a painting of a demon. Two figures stand facing one another. One is the lieutenant of the Law Enforcement division. He has his sword in both his hands drawn. He is covered in blood and wounds all over his body.

One particular wound, on his abdomen is wide open, showing his intestines. He has lost a lot of blood. Even just breathing is getting harder. The other figure didn’t waste any time. With its dark claws, it disappears for a second or two only to appear next to the lieutenant, ripping his body into bits and pieces of flesh.

The scent of iron cloud the warehouse as countless bodies of the Law Enforcement division lie dead on the ground. It was a complete massacre.

A distance from the demon were Mike and the others who are under the demon’s control.

“M-master.” Mike stutters as he calls to his master.

“Shut up.” Shouts the demon.

He is frustrated. A ton of questions envelop his mind.

How did they know about this place? Did one of these idiots tell them? As he thinks that, he glares at them causing all of them to jolt from shock. No, I doubt that. Then how? Damn it. And just when I was planning on leaving. Now, there’s no doubt that more are coming and they’ll figure out that a demon was here. Which means my cover is blown. Damn it. After so much time and planning. I can’t fail Lord Shadow.

“Listen here you human filth. Use the underground passageway and go to the rendezvous outside the city. Starting from now on, that will be your new home. Don’t draw attention to yourselves and wait for me to return.”

They could do nothing but agree. As the demon is about to leave, he remembers something.

Yes, that’s right. How can I forget. One of the members of the Bandit Society was here yesterday. Zeke, if I’m not mistaken. Hmm, what did the information on him say again? Yes, he’s the brains of this Bandit Society. Could this be his doing? If so, when did he find out about me and why did he leave me alone until now.

These humans. I supposed they aren’t to be underestimated even if they are nothing but ants.

The demon disappears from the warehouse.
