Ruri’s perspective.
Ah, it’s so warm. And this bed is so soft. Bed? Wait a minute, didn’t I die?
I open my eyes only to be stunned by what I am seeing. A room big enough for ten people to sleep in. Walls that are covered with a beautiful material with various colours. The celling has precious jewels and gems embedded in it and the chandelier dazzles at the centre of the room.
The fire in the fireplace blazes gently as it warms up the room. In all my life, I have never seen such a beautiful room.
“Oh, my lady. You are awake. You must be starving.”
“M-my lady. My name’s Ruri.”
“Lady Ruri. Before we go to have your meal, please follow me to take a bath.”
What the heck is going on? Wasn’t I dying? Oh, he saved me. What was his name again? Allen. No, big brother Al.
My cheeks turn red.
“Are you okay, lady Ruri?”
“Um, yeah. Can I ask you a question?”
“Yes. You can ask anything.”
“Why are you calling me my lady?”
“Well, the master specifically gave orders to treat you like we would the Pillars. He also said to make sure you’re comfortable.”
I don’t understand.
“Why? Why did he save me? I mean, I’m a beastman. Aren’t beastmen disgusting? Aren’t you disgusted by me?”
“*Chuckles* Not at all my lady. After all, I’m a demon.”
“What?!”
“You don’t have to worry about master Allen either. We also didn’t have a place to go. We were nothing more than wandering spirits. He then gave us a purpose. Something to live for.”
She’s a demon. But she looks human. Aren’t demons’ evil creatures that commit all kinds of evil things? Why would a human… why would he save such inhumane creatures? Why would he save a creature like me?
“You don’t have to worry, my lady. Since he has made you his little sister, no harm shall befall you. You are now safe, my lady. You are now free.”
Tears start flowing out of my eyes. It is the first time someone has said something like that to me. Even in my village, they always said that the weak don’t get to choose. That they would always be chosen for by the strong. That their fate was nothing.
I’ve lived my life with a heavy heart not knowing how my fate would turn out. Always feeling trapped. Always feeling scared. I-I’m so glad to be alive. I’m so happy.
“Now, my lady. Let’s get you cleaned up.”
“Yes. What should I call you by the way?”
“Call me Anne, my lady.”
“Anne! That’s a nice name.”
“Thank you. It was given to me by the master.”
“Big brother Al gave you that name?”
“Yes. All of us were given a name by master Allen. You see, when you become a wandering spirit, you lose all your memories even simple things like your name. Of course, there are some special situations where a spirit retains some memories but the only spirit I know of is master Ray.”
There are so many things I don’t know. I wonder where big brother Al is?
I take a bath. I am surprised by the huge bath. It feels good to just relax after so long. It seems you have to wash yourself outside the bath first before you get in so that you don’t get all the grim and dirt in the bath.

It feels weird having Anne bath me though.
After a relaxing bath, Anne takes out some clothes for me.
“The young master had these specially made for you after he brought you here.”
“Wow, they are so beautiful and smooth. What are these clothes made of?”
“They are made from the Demon Spider’s silk webs. Clothes made from the thick and tough threads of the Demon Spider provide excellent protection and are comfortable to wear.”
Demon Spider? Sigh, I shouldn’t ask. I somehow feel like I’ll be asking a lot of questions if I do.
“Will big brother Al be here for dinner?”
“Probably not. Maybe some of the Pillars will be there.”
“Pillars? Who are they?”
“Just think of them as the master’s loyal retainers or your other brothers and sisters.”
“Are they big brother Al’s siblings?”
“Not really. They are more like his creations but… just think of them as your other brothers okay.”
Creations? Argh, so much confusing information. I should just go eat. I’m starving.
“By the way Anne. Why do you keep your eyes closed? I think you would look more beautiful if you opened them.”
“It’s because of my demonic art ability.”
She then tells me about it and everything I need to know before going to the dining hall.
I follow Anne to the dinner hall. As she opens the doors of the dinner hall, a dozen or so maids are standing on the side line. A big table is at the centre and four people are sitting down.
“Oh, who do we have here? Come little foxy. Come sit next to your big sister, Uriel.”
Anne gave me the rundown about the important people here. She must be Uriel. Anne described her as a carefree person. She has an unreal brown skin that just glows. Her fiery red eyes just pull you in and that innocent smile is somewhat trustworthy. I should probably sit next to her
I sit down next to Uriel.
The maids start moving from behind and after a few minutes, each maid comes in carrying plates and trays of food. They set up all the food on the table. It is beautiful and the smell is to die for. I have never seen such a grand feast in my life.
“Don’t worry fox girl. Eat as much as you want.” Says Uriel as she looks at me with a big smile on her face.
Uriel seems nice but for some reason, I feel an intense stare directed at me.
“Sabrina, stop looking at the poor girl like that. You’re scaring her.” a male voice shoots out of the dining table.
“Oh Robert. Are you telling me I can’t just look at her? I mean look at the poor girl. She’s so beautiful and look at those ears. They just make you wanna rip them off her little head. I wonder if they would grow back?”
What?! What does she mean when she’s saying that? I mean, Anne did say I should be careful of Sabrina but WHAT THE HELL? She also said I should never go to her lab whatever the cost.
Sabrina’s purple eyes have an alluring feeling to them. They just pull you in. It’s kind of like being told about something being dangerous but you don’t listen because you are more curious about it.
“There you go again Sabrina, scaring the poor child. Don’t worry child, just eat.”
Thank the nine-tails Saki, that Robert is here. Anne told me about Sabrina and her fetish when it comes to anything related to a monster. Anne didn’t tell me much about Robert but he seems kind. He has a somewhat creepy smile but overall, he doesn’t seem too bad. He has a handsome fair face and his light blue hair reminds me of lightning for some reason.
“Keep your thoughts to yourself Sabrina. No one wants to hear what’s in your freakish mind.”
Oh, a kid? I didn’t notice him at all. He must be Isaac. Anne didn’t tell me much about him too. For some reason, I want to hug him. He looks super cute and adorable.
“Shut up you little twerp. I wasn’t talking to you. Or perhaps, do you want to visit my lab?”
“Like hell I would. How can you even call ‘that’ a lab? If you want to see a real lab, then come visit mine.”
“WHAT DID YOU SAY YOU LITTLE… How dare you criticise my lab. You’ll make my new test sub… (Clearing throat) I mean our new family member scared of me now.”
“Good. She should be scared of you. Just the thought of your lab gives me the hibbie jibbies.”
“Well, it’s better than your steel lab. I mean, why is a child playing with machines to begin with.”
“Take that back.”
“Oh, come on. Does the truth make you wanna cry?”
“ENOUGH YOU TWO!” a voice shouts from behind me.
Huh, they stopped just like that. Come to think about it, who was it?
When I turn my head, a maid is realising an intense aura focused on the two.
“Don’t be rude in front of the child. As master Allen ordered, we shall treat this girl as one of our own. That means you should throw away any thoughts about her Sabrina.”
“Yes Marianne.” Answers Sabrina with a gloomy look.
“And you too Isaac. Don’t get riled up about what Sabrina says to you. In other words, don’t be a baby.”
“Yes Marianne.” Answers Isaac with a gloomy look too.
Did they just get scolded?
“Now, Ruri, was it?”
I nod my head in agreement.
“Eat up and don’t worry about the others. You can relax as long as you are here child.”
So, this must be Marianne. Anne only described her in one word. Scary. She definitely is scary but in a caring way. She reminds me of my mom when she scolded me because I went out to the forest without anyone. My mom. I miss her.
And just like that, tears begin falling down my face.
I miss my family so much. I miss my friends and the people of the village. Even though I was an outcast, I still miss them.
“It’s okay child. You’ll be alright.” She says as she hugs me.
“(Smirk)You made her cry Sabrina. She’s probably crying because of all the things you said.”
“Shut up, twerp.”
Marianne glares at them both and they quickly shut up.
“I miss them. I miss them so much.” I say crying.
“I know. I know. But you’ll be alright. I promise you.”
After an intense tearful session, I ate the delicious food that was in front of me. I don’t remember eating food that good. I just hoped my family would have been here to enjoy this food.
