Chapter 17: New generation

Chapter 17: New generation

As Allen enters the pocket dimensional training room with Ruri, the two teams prepare to challenge the dungeons. They wear their gears and prepare their potions. They are forbidden from bringing Stamina potions and Mana potions and are only allowed to carry healing potions. Even the healing potions they are allowed to carry are only low-level.

This is to put their training of all these years to the test without relying too much on potions. Conquering a dungeon takes a week to a month at most, depending on the person challenging it. Allen conquering it in few hours was just abnormal.

“Get ready to eat my dust, old man.” Says Light to his father.

“You little brat. You think you’ve grown up now. You haven’t even grown a beard yet and you think you can take on your old man?”

“Of course, I am. We’ll be winning this challenge and we’ll have all the rewards.”

The only thing Luke could do is sigh. After all, these two are on the brawn side of things and they are pretty competitive with each other. Having grown up in a family where his father was known as the strongest in the village, Light always wanted to be like him.

So, he trained himself to the bone but no matter how much he trained, he just couldn’t reach his father’s level. Until now that is. Being one of the first to be trained by Allen personally, Light has grown quite a lot. Even though he still can’t beat his father on a one-on-one fight, the power gap between them has definitely dwindled from what it was.

Gerald is wearing an armour that has a chest plate covering his chest. The chest plate however is dark instead of silver. That is because it has been made out of an armoured grizzly’s thick armour. The leather underneath is also made of an armoured grizzly’s thick black fur. He carries a greatsword that is also black in colour. The term ‘dark warrior’ fits him as he also wears a coat made of night wolf’s fur to prevent him from getting cold.

Light however was the opposite to his father. He is wearing an armour made of a white dire wolf’s fur. His blonde hair unlike his father’s jet-black hair, complemented his armour. It is laced with a thick golden material and the chest plate is also the same. The term ‘holy knight’ is what people who don’t know him would think. For the people who know him however, they would simply chuckle at that term considering Light’s personality and intelligence.

The Old and New team go their separate ways into the forest. The dungeons were located in the Orange zone of the forest. They manage to arrive at their respective locations and now it was set. Which team would come out on top? The Old or the New?

It’s been two days now since the two teams have started their missions. The New team has encountered some hobgoblins, dire wolves and death stingers.

They managed to defeat the hobgoblins with relative ease and so were the dire wolves. They struggled with the death stingers since they could fly and the toxins, they released could be deadly. They managed to win against them with the help of Luke’s wind magic. Using Gust to make their flight speed unstable, the attackers were able to take them down.

The third day.

“Man, when will we encounter some strong monsters?” asks Light bored.

“We should count ourselves lucky. It’d be a pain if we faced strong opponents.” Replies Luke.

“Oh, come on. Don’t tell me you’re scared?”

“Shut up.”

Luke isn’t scared. He just doesn’t want to be overconfident in his abilities. If a strong monster was to show up and due to overconfidence, he slips up. He would die or be injured severely. Considering the fact that Allen didn’t allow them to bring intermediate-grade healing potions or greater. Being fatally injured would mean you’d have to sit it out and not continue.

*Roar*

A roar stuns the team. From the shadows, a red grizzly emerged. A red grizzly is a ferocious bear known for its intense bloodlust. It is big. Bigger than a human adult. Its fur is red as if bathed in blood and its cold stare sends shivers down anyone who faces it.

“Finally. A challenge.” Says Light as he charges at it.

“WAIT! Idiot.”

As Light is charging towards the red grizzly, he imbues his sword with mana and jumps into the air. Using his momentum and strength, he stabs the red grizzly in the chest.

“Got you. You’re not so tough.” He says with a cheeky smile.

*Roar*

Light is shocked. Even though he stabbed it in the chest, the red grizzly isn’t going down. It swings its giant paw smashing Light in the face, hurtling him towards the wall.

He crashes against the wall as a thunderous sound shakes where he had slammed.

“Aww, what the hell was that?” asks the confused Light.

“HEY, IDIOT! I told you to wait. Do you know nothing about a Red Grizzly?” shouts the annoyed Luke.

“What about it?”

“You never read the ‘Monsters guide’ Allen gave us, did you?” Luke sighs as he covers his face with his hand. “The red grizzly isn’t like other monsters. Do you even know why its fur is red?”

“No.”

“Sigh, you truly are an idiot. The red grizzly’s fur is red because of its blood. The red grizzly is a peculiar monster. The cells in its body fight each other constantly and because of that, the sweat glands end up secreting blood instead of sweat. That’s why its fur is red.”

“So?”

“Do I have to explain everything to you? That means the red grizzly is constantly in pain. Its pain is so great that even if you stab it, it wouldn’t feel it and continue fighting. That’s where it gets its ferocity from.”

“Which means no matter how much we attack it; it won’t feel it.”

“Yeah. The red grizzly never stops no matter the wounds you inflict on it. That’s why you need to make sure to deal a deadly wound or just chop off its ugly head. Damn, more monsters are coming now.”

“I see. Then you guys can handle the small fries. Leave the red grizzly to me.”

“Don’t be careless like last time or I’ll kill you myself, idiot.”

“Don’t worry. I’ve got this.”

Light charges at it again while the others dealt with the incoming monsters.

“I’ll finish this in one move, grizzly.”

*Roar*

Light’s sword radiates with mana as he prepares his attack. The red grizzly charges at him too. Light attempts to take a stance and prepares an attack but since he was running at it, he couldn’t stop. Instead, he glided on the ground like he was surfing using the momentum he had built up.

“Hundred thrusts in one.”

He then thrusts his sword forward at the red grizzly. The attack is so fast and deadly that the red grizzly couldn’t react on time.

*Boom*

The red grizzly is pierced six times all over its body. All the vital points of the body including the head were blown off. As the dust of the battlefield clears, all the fifty guards stood tall in the grounds of their victory.

“So, that’s what you’ve been working on all this time.” Says Luke.

“Yeah. It’s a technique Allen has been teaching me. I can’t do a hundred thrust like him though. I can only manage to do twelve of them but it takes a toll on my body so I can’t use it infinitely.”

Condensing mana within the sword and using the mana of the environment as an aid to increase the destructiveness of the attack. I never knew swordsmen could also use mana from the environment in an attack? For him to be able to create 12 thrusts in one attack is commendable. It shows the results of his training. But to think six of those thrusts can damage a red grizzly like that? I fail to understand how Allen can create a hundred of such thrusts. Thinking about things that don’t make sense hurts my head. Thinks Luke.

“No fair you guys.” Says Kelvin upset.

“What’s up buddy?” asks Light in a cheery tone.

“How come you guys get all the spotlight? I want some too.”

Light smiles and grabs Kelvin’s shoulder.

“Okay, next time a powerful monster shows up, I will let you have it.”

“Really?” asks Kelvin with eyes filled with joy.

“Yeah.”

Kelvin jumps in happiness as he hugs his friend.

“Get a room. Anyways, the monster’s bodies should be disappearing any minute now. Get ready to collect the magic cores left after they disintegrate. We will also be resting here.” Says Luke.

In the shadows behind them, Uriel is watching them.

I guess I won’t be needed. They handled themselves quite nicely with only a few receiving minor injuries. It’s boring though. Why are these guys so slow? I hope a strong monster shows up so I can fight too.
