“Dead at last. You were a worthy opponent and given a few years, you might have beaten me. But you are a hundred years too early, kid.”
Damn, to think I’d suffer so much fighting this kid. I guess he’s that bastard’s descendant, that’s for sure. I need to go back to the demon territory and recover. Then, I’ll get my revenge against the Holyland and all of humanity.
Huh, the barrier is still intact? Isn’t it supposed to collapse immediately when its caster dies? Or was it not him who cast it?
“I get it now,” I say as blood drips off my body. Mephistoles feels a chill down his back. He turns around only to find that I am still alive.
My lost arm regenerated instantly. I then used it to pull out the rods.
What’s going on? He’s supposed to be dead. I stabbed his heart. Even if he didn’t die, he should have turned into a demonic human. And his injuries, how can they heal like that? It’s even faster than my regeneration.
A surge of energy bursts out of my body. The energy is enough to blow even the trees away.
What’s going on? Where the hell is he getting all of that energy from? Wait a minute, why is all the demonic energy being pulled towards him? Is he absorbing it? Impossible! No human can do that. He would immediately turn into a demonic human. And yet he isn’t?
“I finally understand now. Mana, magic, demonic energy, holy energy. It’s all one and the same thing.”
The kid has finally done it. A mystery that he’s been investigating for all these past few months. A mystery he spent sleepless nights trying to understand. What makes mana? Mana. What makes demonic energy? Demonic energy. This is the birth of a king. Go on, Allen. Show him your might.
All the energies of this world are connected. The reason why demonic energy is so hard to figure out is because it isn’t the energy of this world. But over time, this world accepted this foreign energy and made it a part of itself. I think that applies to my weird golden energy too. The reason it’s still a mystery to me is because this energy isn’t of this world.
Thanks to my golden energy, which I was reluctant to use, I was able to regenerate my arm and the fatal wounds I received were healed completely. I then used the demonic energy in the surroundings and converted it into mana and magic power to replenish all my lost energy.
Right now, I’ve broken through another level. The demonic energy is now not a problem. I can now release my full power without any interference from the demonic energy. In fact, this same poisonous energy is now helping me.
“What’s with this tremendous pressure of energy?” the Demon Lord wonders aloud. “The energy in his body keeps rising and rising. Are you telling me that this is his full power?
How? How is this possible?”
“Get ready Demon Lord. For now, I have awakened.”
The Demon Lord immediately releases his Domain but unlike before, it is no threat. With a simple wave of my hand, the Domain shatters.
What?! He broke my Domain. This cannot be allowed to happen.
I’ll just use Greed to absorb all that energy again.
He then charges at me but this time, I can see his movements very clearly. He swings his blade towards me but
I catch it.
“Are you stupid? Did you forget that Greed can absorb your energy like it’s—“
He cuts himself off, surprised, as I break his blade with my bare hand. Of course, I don’t give him any respite. I then punch him in the gut. He retaliates but he is no match for me now. His attacks are slow and predictable and the armour that was so tough to break through before is no stronger than wood. My attacks are inflicting severe damage, I can tell.
“Just what are you?” he huffed, out of breath. “JUST WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU?”
He comes rushing towards me and throws a punch. I dodge it easily and punch him straight in the face. He hurtles backwards, dazed.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
What’s going on? It seems I can’t regenerate anymore. My body somehow feels heavy. And this blood? Why isn’t it stopping? The punch he just threw right now felt like any ordinary punch but… why is my nose bleeding so much? I can’t! I can’t accept this!
There’s no way in hell I’m going to lose!
He then releases an intense amount of energy.
“Don’t get cocky human, you still haven’t—“
I punch him right through the solar plexus, and he coughs, choking on his own blood.
“You can’t win!” I tell him and then punch him in the chest, sending him crashing into the dirt. He stands up but I can see he struggled just to pull himself to his feet. He can’t even stand up straight. I guess it’s time I finish this fight.
I raise my hand just slightly towards him and the sky darkens, adding to the gloom brought about by the night sky and the demonic energy that is everywhere. It is further darkened by the dark clouds of roaring lightning. Lightning crackles from my arm to my entire body. The thunderous clouds start roaring as if excited. A large amount of energy in my body starts to burst out.
The crackling of lightning on my body starts to change ever so slightly. From a dark blue to a light blue and finally to a flash of pure white lightning. My snow-white hair is glowing as if it is a lantern in the darkness. My ocean blue eyes glow even brighter, changing to a bright white.
As lightning crackles in the clouds, a thunderbolt shoots down towards me. The lightning from the clouds is now charging my attack. The crackling lightning from my body is now charged with more power. My white hair stands up as if it is solid steel.
How? Just how is this possible? To wield such power, just like that! How many years have I spent trying to reach that level this human has reached? I don’t accept this. I can’t accept it. Because I am the one destined to bring humanity’s destruction and bring glory to the demon clain.
As Mephistoles’ thoughts are running rampant, a flash of a memory from his past appears in his mind. This was two hundred years ago before the demons waged war against humans. In a small room in the demon realm, Mephistoles is with an unknown woman wearing a dark cloak.
“Tell me, Lady Margarete, will I be victorious in this upcoming war?”
Margarete remained quiet for a few seconds, and then answered, “You know my ‘revelations’ don’t work like that. I can only see what the world wants me to see.”
“Then tell me what you see.”
“I see a future where the demon clan prospers, where happiness is written on the face of every demon. That is all I can see.”
Mephistoles then smiled joyously.
“Then tell me once more, am I the one leading the demon clan? Am I the one who brings the demon clan glory?”
Margerete didn’t answer. She remained quiet for thirty seconds. Sweat started rolling down Mephistoles’ forehead.
“Yes,” she answered. “You are the one who brings the demon clan glory.”
BACK TO PRESENT
Yes, yes! I am the one who shall bring the demon clan its glory. So I can’t die here.
“I refuse to die here,” shouts Mephistoles in anger. “I refuse to be killed by an insignificant human like you.” I look at him and I only mutter two words:
“LIGHTNING ARROW.”
The entire area is suddenly enshrouded in pure whiteness. This is followed by an earth-shattering lightning bolt realised from my hand, which turns the Demon Lord to ashes instantly. The lightning bolt is so powerful that it incinerates the forest itself. I then change the trajectory of the lightning bolt up into the sky.
As the lightning bolt travels through the sky, shining over the darkness of the night, all I can think is that it is just too beautiful. After all, that is my most powerful lightning magic attack.
“That took a lot out of me,” I say, huffing incessantly.
I then stand in the ruins of the forest. I pick up something sparkling from the ground. It is the Demon Lord’s demonic core. I wonder if it will be possible to absorb it and replenish some of the lost golden energy that I spent since they are both somewhat foreign energies.
Ray sighs in relief. The kid won. He actually won. For a moment there, I thought he was done for. It’s weird too. Even though I knew that if the kid died, I would have died too. I was actually worried about him.
The servant-master contract only makes me unable to go against his orders and that I should be loyal. There isn’t any part about me having to like the kid, but for that split second… I was scared for the kid. I’m glad he was able to figure out one of the major mysteries he’s been searching for. After fighting Anti, he spent a lot of time investigating demonic energy but to no avail.
I noticed one thing about the kid as I’ve lived in his body, and it is that is he’ll do everything in his power to find the truth about anything he’s interested in. I guess that came from him being a scientist. From his memories, it seems a scientist is a person who seeks out the truth about the world. And now that he is in this world, he is determined to find out the truth about this world.
ON THE WAY HOME
Man, I’m beat. Every muscle in my body aches. That battle was taxing both physically and mentally. I should find a way to fix this exhaustion problem.
I then stop for a minute to catch my breath.
Kid, you can take a break. Let me get you home.
Hehe, you’re not planning to take over my body, are you?
It’s not like I could even if I wanted. Sigh, you’ve done the impossible here today. I just want you to know that you are not alone. I’m here also, your partner. So, the tiredness you’re feeling right now, let me feel it for you.
You’ve changed Ray. I remember the first time you and I started working together. You were so pissed about having to do my bidding. You would always curse at me, saying how you would take over my body one day.
HEY! I haven’t changed at all. I’m just bidding my time for when it’s needed the most. Anyways, just rest okay.
Did you just blush right now?
SHUT THE HELL UP!
(Chuckles) Okay, partner, I leave the rest to you.
I then hand my body to him to control.
“Aaaah WHAT THE HELL! To think you were suffering so much kid? Sigh, rest now, your partner has you covered.”
