Chapter 656

CHAPTER 656

The prison guard took in Yael’s nervous look and snorted, guessing that the latter had to have made the wrong assumption. : text © owner.

“Don’t worry. You’re not dying any time soon. Some important man wants to meet you.”

In the middle of the night?

Yael was tense. Who visits a prisoner in the middle of the night? Who could it be?

As he mulled over that anxiously, the grogginess he felt earlier dissipated.

The sound of two men’s footsteps echoed in the corridor. The prison guard took out his key and unlocked the door to the secret visiting room.

The steel door creaked open, and Yael entered, his wrists and ankles still cuffed.

There was a large square table in the visiting room with two men sitting across from it.

Yael fixed his eyes on one of the men. The latter had dark eyes and was looking at him expressionlessly, exuding a domineering aura.

His face was one that Yael was extremely familiar with. He was the man he desperately wished to kill— Cedrick Jenson.

Alas, he had lost. He would not have the chance to fulfill his wish.

What surprised him most was that Cedrick had brought Charles along this time.

The Newton family was the Harris family’s business rival. Yet, it seemed that Cedrick was not planning to shy away from discussing family matters around Charles.

Yael was confused, but he still took a seat with a dark look.

Once the prison guard left the room and closed the door behind him, he promptly asked, “Why did you look for me at this time of the day? Did something happen to Dad?”

Cedrick brushed the watch on his left wrist and, without lifting his gaze, muttered, “Grandpa is doing fine. Just a few months ago, I sent Benny and Zendy to him so that he could take care of them, but now, I found out that there are issues with the milk powder Benny and Zendy had been consuming. I wonder if someone used Grandpa and changed the milk powder for something else.”

Yael nearly burst out laughing. “It looks like you’ve gained a handful of enemies, and some are out to get your children too. Your misery is their delight.”

Cedrick furrowed his brows and went straight to the point. “You were still working in an unimportant role in the subsidiary at that time, so I know it wasn’t you. But I’m suspicious of Xander’s involvement. Grandpa raised him since young, so he often visited his place.”

The smile on Yael’s face faded immediately.

Seemingly reading Cedrick’s mind, Yael quickly clarified, “There’s no way my son’s involved in this. He’s not as smart as you, and I told him to consult me first before he made any decision. He didn’t say anything about this. It definitely wasn’t him.”

Cedrick huffed in mockery, “So did he tell you that he was going to collude with Paul to hurt Grandpa?”

Yael nodded vigorously. “Yes, he did. I gave him my permission. Who knew he would be so incompetent and screw up the entire matter?”

Cedrick fell silent. He seemed to be contemplating something, but Yael could not tell if he believed in his words or not.

Yael had no choice but to continue, “Even if my son has the guts to go after you without my knowledge, Dad won’t let him get away with it. I heard that Dad thinks of the world of Benny and Zendy. Besides the nanny you sent over, only Logan and a few housekeepers that he’s close to are allowed into Benny and Zendy’s nursery. Cedrick, you should know that your grandfather is from the army. He’s a wary man, and he’s meticulous when it comes to the kids. There’s no way the Jensons did this,” Yael said without hesitation.

Charles maintained an onlooker attitude the entire time and did not participate in any discussion of the topic.

He did not know what happened in the Jenson residence at that time, after all.

Cedrick was equally silent for a long while.

Yael clenched his hands.

Xander was already out of the country. Before things went south for him, he had prepared a plan B for Xander. He could not say that Xander’s life overseas would be great, but Xander would not need to worry about getting food and basic necessities for his daily life.

However, if Cedrick was adamant about Xander’s involvement in this and applied for an international arrest warrant to drag him back to Chanaea, then life for him would be even worse from then on.

In his time in prison, Yael had made peace with many things.

“Cedrick, trust me this one time. I’ve already lost everything, and I’m not even a part of the Jenson family anymore. I know I can’t win against you, and it’s even more impossible for Xander to defeat you. I won’t lie to you. I’d suggest you look into the milk powder incident from a different angle instead of from the Jenson family. Don’t even bother suspecting Dad. There’s no way he would ever hurt his own great-grandchildren. You’ll be hurting your relationship with him if you do so.”

Cedrick did not answer to that, but a self-deprecating smile grew on his lips.

Saying nothing else to Yael, he stood up and left the visiting room through another door.

Charles followed him silently.

“Cedrick! Mr. Cedrick! There’s no way Xander is involved in this! He’s of no threat to you anymore, so please let him go! You promised not to hold him accountable anymore! You said you would let him live his life out there! If you go back on your words and get him back here, I’ll haunt you for the rest of your life! Answer me, Cedrick!”

Yael tried to run after Cedrick, but he was stopped by the prison guard who came inside and brought him back.

Yael had no idea what went on in Cedrick’s mind and how much Cedrick believed in him. His voice was cut off as the steel door closed.

In the tunnel, Charles asked, “Mr. Jenson, do you believe him?”

“If you were me, would you?” Cedrick returned the question.

Charles leisurely clasped his hands and replied, “If something like this happened to the Newton family, the one I’d be visiting in prison would be Craig. But he’s rather sly, so I won’t believe him.”

The corners of Cedrick’s lips curled up. “That’s right.”

Charles did not quite understand what he meant and wondered if that meant that he did not believe Yael either.

“But, at the end of the day, I’m not that familiar with Yael, let alone what he has done to have you send him to prison and remove his name from the Jenson family tree. He looked sincere earlier, so perhaps

he was speaking the truth.” After a moment of rumination, Charles narrowed his eyes and suggested, “Maybe you might want to start with Old Mr. Jenson’s villa. Bring those housekeepers to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for an interrogation. We’ll find out something eventually.”

“I’ll keep that in mind, but I’ll have to put this plan aside first until Nico has results from his investigation.”

Yael was right about one thing—Cedrick was no longer as close as he used to be with Valentino.

When he had removed his grandfather’s spies and old subordinates in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, he had made their relationship tense.

If he were to openly suspect that his grandfather had poisoned his children, he would essentially burn the bridge between the two of them.

Unless he could not find anything elsewhere, Cedrick would not suspect his grandfather.

As dark thoughts swirled in his head, Cedrick walked forward steadily and soon left the prison.

Just as the two of them were on their way back to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Cedrick’s phone rang.

It was from Nico.

The second the call connected, Nico said, “Cedrick, I’ve got all the information you need, and I’ve gone through them. There’s something strange about them…”
