CHAPTER 466
She just won't stop flirting with me. That was what ran through Lucas' mind when they were on their way back to the firm. Even after they made their return, he still couldn't tell her he didn't like her. He would be lying to himself. He knew he had feelings for her.
Falling for her was easy. Leigh was a woman with charisma. She had the X factor that stopped him from tearing his eyes away from her. There was no way he could tell her he didn't like her, but at the same time, he couldn't give her any promises.
Let's just go with the flow. Once the novelty wears off, she'll go for someone else even without me telling her to.
Even after they returned, Leigh still wanted him to go with her. "Wanna take a stroll in the yard? The weather's nice for a walk."
"Fine." She's not drunk. Should be okay to walk with her.
Once they arrived at the backyard, Leigh looked at the main house. "The light isn't on. I see Maddie and Sebastian are back at Hart Manor."
"Yeah." Lucas said, "Uncle Patrick and Uncle Paul are back. She and the kids have to see them."
Leigh looked at him. "Why didn't you go?"
"Me?" Lucas scratched his nose. "Uncle Paul has an adopted son called Alexander Cheshire. He's annoying, and we're rivals. I don't wanna see him."
"Alexander, huh?" Leigh said. "The name of a king. Good name."
"So what? He's an *rse." Lucas hissed, "That guy is the single, most annoying guy I've ever met."
"Why do you look so agitated?" She stared at him with interest. "Did he do anything to you?"
"As if." He scoffed. "I just don't like him. He's never nice to me, but he's nice to everyone else."
Leigh laughed. "That's on you. If he's nice to everyone but you, then that's on you. You gotta reflect on yourself."
"I thought we were friends. Why are you taking his side?"
"I'm on your side, of course. I was kidding." She tilted her head to the side. "What happened between you two? He's a guest, but why won't you even see him?"
"Nothing," Lucas said. "We just don't vibe well. I just don't like his face. No particular reason."
"Oh, I'm getting really curious now." Leigh said, "I have got to see this man. It's not every day I see you get so agitated."
"Don't waste your time." He waved his hand dismissively. "But if you do meet him, be careful. That guy's a sly old fox. Blink, and he's gonna scam you out of everything you have."
"Really?" Leigh said, "I see your uncle is a poor judge of character. Why did he take him in then?"
Lucas scratched his nose. "He's nice to his friends. He's also Uncle Paul's tactician, which proves that he's capable, but he's annoying."
That just makes me more curious. I must meet this guy. "What about your other uncle?" she asked. "Does he have an adopted son too?"
"Yeah," Lucas answered. "His name is Zion Hart. A gentleman and a lot better than that *sshole, Alexander."
"Whoa." She sighed. "You sound really miffed. Good thing Alexander's a guy, or I'd have thought he was your ex who cheated on you."
"Do not tell him that, or he will kill you."
"Why?" she asked.
"Because you called him a woman," he said. "He's going to trip you up, and nobody's going to believe you even if you told them." Lucas gnashed his teeth angrily. "That sly old fox."
Leigh sat down at a nearby table and rested her cheeks on her hands. "And now you look like a girl who got dumped by her cheating boyfriend."
"Stop. I don't like how you describe things." She just said Alexander's my ex, and now I'm an abandoned girl? Goddamn, this is a dramatic fall in status.
"Hey, it's just a description, nothing else. You're handsome and talented, not an abandoned woman." Leigh said, "But I have a question."
An inscrutable Lucas said, "You always have questions when we're together."
"Because we're friends, and we talk about everything." A grin curled her lips. "Why's Zion a Hart, but Alexander is a Cheshire? Is Cheshire his middle name?"
"No. That's his last name. Zion is an orphan, so he takes Uncle Patrick's surname, but Alexander is Uncle Paul's friend's son. Uncle Paul's friend died early, his wife remarried, and Alexander had no one to take care of him, so my uncle took him in. He didn't want to let go of his last name."
"Hey, why do rich people like to adopt kids anyway?" Leigh asked, "Does Mario have any adopted kids?"
"No," Lucas answered. "Not every rich family adopts kids. My uncles aren't married, and they have no kids of their own. Uncle Patrick ran into Zion by chance, so he took him in. Alexander's father was Uncle Paul's best friend. He had no one to take care of him, so Uncle Paul took him in."
"So why aren't your uncles married?" Leigh asked. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
"You sure have a lot of questions."
She grinned. "Hey, just killing some time."
I thought she just gossips because of the alcohol. Turns out she just loves gossip. It has nothing to do with her being drunk at all. He said, "You know what? This job is perfect for you." The firm is a place where gossips come to meet. It's perfect for a gossip girl like her.
"I know." A big smile curled her lips. "Why do you think I work for Maddie willingly? Not like she can marry me."
