CHAPTER 408
He heaved a long sigh and put on a look of agony. "Rosetta, I've kept a secret from him. Now that he's sixteen, he can legally work and make money for himself. It's time to tell him that secret."
Rosetta asked him what the secret was, but he didn't tell her. He said he could only tell Lucian about it.
Rosetta was a gentle lady. Since he didn't want to tell her, she didn't pry. If he wanted to return to Dusktown, then they would go back to Dusktown.
When she got reunited with Lucian, Rosetta cried her heart out. She loved the boy, but the woman was weak. She was just one lady who couldn't even fend for herself, much less a child.
It was because Rosetta's love was real that Lucian accepted him and her back in his family and fell for his lies.
Lucian gave his mother a lot of money after they were reunited. Rosetta had no idea how to manage money, so she would give it to Josiah every time Lucian gave her the cash. Josiah would pay some of the interest and capital back with the money. He had always been working hard to clear his debt, or his family would never be free.
But the interest rate was monstrous, and the amount of debt he owed was almost insurmountable. Lucian was just a sixteen-year-old boy. He couldn't give Rosetta too much money, nor could he ask her to demand more money from Lucian, or the boy might see through him.
All he could do was wait until the day he came of age and took over the company. He had to wait until the day came when he killed Raphael for 'vengeance'.
Once Raphael was dead, his company would become Lucian's. The boy loved his mother deeply, so he would give her all the money he could. As long as Lucian could take over, he would try his luck and see if he could get Rosetta and Bobby a part of the shares.
It was a long process, but he had no choice except to wait it out. Fortunately, Lucian would give Rosetta money frequently, and he could pay off the interest and a part of the principal every time. The loan sharks thought he was reliable, so they never disrupted his normal life or harassed him.
Eventually, Lucian finally took over the family and company, while Raphael died from overflowing fury, much to Josiah's delight. So what if he's born to money? Only the one who laughs last wins.
They used to be a group of four. Lucian's father died, and his wife married Josiah after that. Howard was stricken by grief after the tragedy, so he left and never came back. Nobody could get in touch with him, nor did they have any idea if he was alive. And when Raphael died, he officially became the winner in this little game of life, despite how lowly his background was.
He thought he was a genius. Josiah might start out poor, but he won everything in the end. However, fate threw in another twist of events. Just when he was about to convince Lucian to give a part of the shares to Rosetta and Bobby, Lucian suddenly found the missing Howard and found out the truth about that fateful day.
Lucian was no fool. In fact, he was smart, and smart people were always arrogant. He never could accept it when everyone called him the slave of the Owens and Caitlin, so Josiah's lies got through to him easily.
But just when he thought he could finally reap his rewards and make life better for his wife and son, Lucian woke up from this dream of lies. Josiah knew how cruel he could be, and Raphael was a prime
example.
Raphael took care of him for more than a decade and saw him as his own, but he still killed that man in the end. This guy is a heartless demon. Now that he knows the truth, he'll make sure our lives become a living hell, just as he said. I have no doubt about it. Content is property © .
The only way to make his family's life better was to kill Lucian. Only after he was dead could his family leave poverty behind and get rich.
He lived a life of poverty, and because of that, he lived his days in schemes and conspiracies. In the end, his schemes paid off, and he had a son with the woman he loved. His son was his whole world, and Josiah wouldn't let the boy live a life of poverty.
For his son, Josiah could do anything, even if it would cost him his life. So, he tried to kill Lucian. Bobby can live the best life if this b*stard dies.
But now Lucian had left a will. If he were to die, everything he had would go to Caitlin, not his wife and son. They would get nothing.
He cut off my only way out. What should my wife and kid do?
If I can't pay my debt, those bloodsuckers are going to come after me and my family. We'll have to live our lives in hiding.
No… No! I've lived my life in poverty. I was forced to bow down to everyone and everything just to survive. I won't let my son repeat this pathetic life.
"Do you want revenge, Luke?" He ignored the pain in his wrist and looked at Lucian. "You say I killed your father, but you have no proof, and you can't avenge him without proof. But if you promise me you'll take care of your mother and your brother after I die, I'll take my own life. Deal?"
"What are you talking about, Josiah? That's nonsense!" Rosetta was still bawling. "Bobby needs his father, Josiah. Luke's just duped by those monsters. I'll make sure he sees the light, don't worry. He'll listen to me."
Josiah slowly shook his head and held her hand with his good hand. "Don't you see? He's as evil as it gets. He'll kill anyone whom he hates, and he never goes back on that promise."
"No… No, he won't! He's my son! He's a loving boy. He won't harm us…" Rosetta gave Lucian a tearful look. "We're a family, Luke. You won't abandon us, will you?"
Lucian stared at her, his gaze filled with cold mockery. "You're still saying that at this point? Don't you think it's a little bit too late? Were you blind? He tried to kill me!"
