Chapter 33 Last request

Chapter 33 Last request

“The only person I’d save would be you, because you are an interesting person and in my opinion such people are worth saving. But you are fine with your death old man, so there is nothing keeping me here.”(Me)

While we were talking, I could hear the attack. Buildings getting crushed, earthquakes occurring, screams of people and roars of beasts. There were other people at the inn before, but the second they heard the town was attacked they escaped. The only strange thing was that the inn wasn’t destroyed yet.

“Before you leave, I would like you to do me a favour.”(Owner)

“Why should I?”(Me)

“Gah. You know, being cold to others will surely come back at you someday.”(Owner)

“And after being nice to people they will betray you. Thanks for your concern, but I prefer my own methods. I don’t need your lectures, I already experienced enough to know how I want to live.”(Me)

“You already experienced a lot. I see. And that at such a young age. Would you at least listen to this old man’s last request as long as this protection barrier still works?”(Owner)

So it was a barrier, I knew it.

I took a few guesses as to why the inn didn’t fall yet before, but it seemed I was right.

“I will listen to you and decide afterwards if I lend you a hand.”(Me)

“Thank you. You will not regret…”(Owner)

The barrier was shattered and half of the inn was destroyed in 1 attack. We were surrounded by hungry looking beasts. I didn’t care about our situation, but the old man got hit by a rock when the inn was destroyed and was on his last breaths.

“Guh. Take Sarah with you please...”(Owner)

Totally losing his coolness he had while talking before he begged me. He was already on the verge of death and could barely talk.

(Inhale) “Sarah, my last command is that you live freely and follow this young man.”(Owner)

The situation surely was strange. The old man telling me his last wish, he commanding the white haired girl in front of all those beasts to live freely. It was funny, but somehow I took it to heart and didn’t laugh. I respected his last efforts.

“She will tell you everything el…se.”(Owner)

Everything happened in mere seconds and as soon as the old man died, I heard a high pitched scream from behind me. It came from the emotionless receptionist from before. It was followed by tears and other emotions. On 1 hand sadness, of the old man dying and on the other fear of the surrounding beasts.

“Damn that old fox.”(Me)

I said I’d listen to his request, but now the only way of doing so, would be by saving that girl. I knew it’s stupid, but I’d stick to my promises. It was something humans called pride.

“Oy your name was Sarah right?”(Me)

I asked her a simple question. I planned to get the rest out of her later on. At that moment it was important to get her out unscathed.

“Hic (crying). Y…Yes.”(Sarah)

“Stop crying. I’ll hold them back and you run away. Can you do that?”(Me)

“I, I should be fine.”(Sarah)

Sigh. At least she isn’t completely useless.

We were already surrounded, so the only way to escape was by creating 1 ourselves. I took out a sword of my [space inventory] and prepared myself for a fight. We moved slowly, with no sudden movements. I watched the beasts closely and was prepared to kill them with a simple swing as soon as they would attack us.

I wasn’t able to understand why they wouldn’t attack, but the even stranger part came afterwards. When we stood in front of a beast and wouldn’t be able to advance further, it just stepped to the side and let us through. Every time we were in a radius of about 3 metres, the beasts just moved to the side and let us pass.

“Why would they let us pass so easily?”(Me)

“I, I don’t know.”(Sarah)

“Ah!”(Me)

Dammit I said that out loud?

“Huh?”(Sarah)

“Haha. Nothing, just keep following me.”(Me)

We left the group of beasts behind and went for the exit of town. I could only wonder why they let us pass.

“Those brainless animals let someone leave alive? Do I have to do everything myself?”(?)

Someone was waiting in front of the exit. He wore a black robe and the shadows hid his appearance perfectly. I wasn’t even able to see his face.

“Hoy. You guys don’t even think of leaving alive.”(?)

I could feel an eerie aura surrounding him. Sarah was also able to do so and started to shake out of fear. If I’d compare him and the horde of beasts and had to decide who was stronger I’d go with him, if it was for the first impression. Not that I cared though.

“And why’s that so?”(Me)

The girl’s face turned white and she almost fell unconsciousness after my stupid question. With a lot of effort she hid behind me.

“Normally humans cower in fear or some strong willed start at least shaking when they see me, like your companion for example. You are a strange.”(?)

The stranger pointed on Sarah while saying that. He still hid in the shadows of the gate, which annoyed me.

“I only fear something stronger than me and you are obviously not. I mean why would you have the need to hide then?”(Me)

“The answer to that is easy. It is solely for looking cool.”(?)

Silence.

“Pfff. Hahahahahahahahaha!”(Me)

I couldn’t hold myself back at all. I rolled on the floor while holding my stomach. I couldn’t see it, but I was sure the hooded person was totally mad at me.

“Hah.”(Sarah)

Even Sarah, who was afraid seconds ago had to laugh.

“Ha. Now I haha. I can’t take you serious anymore if you haha. Say something like that with so much pride.”(Me)

“Are those your last words?”(?)

Yep. He was totally pissed.

“Try silencing me if you can.”(Me)

I taunted him even more and he finally lost his mind and came storming at me.
