Chapter 10 first magic lesson

Chapter 10 first magic lesson

The next morning, I was woken up by that clock thing again. If that thing would wake me up like that every morning I think I would have gone insane. Luckily, we only had school 5 days in a row and after those, 2 days of something called “weekend”. That was the time, when we had the opportunity to go into the city, take requests from the school or visit our families and so on.

I stood up from my bed and put on the official school clothing. We have particular clothes which we have to wear during our lessons, so the teachers can different us. I got mine yesterday after that test, but because no one told me that I had to wear them, I didn’t. In my opinion, they had a good look, but I didn’t need that. I hated them because they were definitely not fit for battle and it took me a lot of courage to switch clothes.

I left my room and went downstairs. As always, I attracted attention from the 1st year students, but as always, I ignored their stares. After learning a lot about Sonya academy on my 1st day, I knew a shortcut to my classroom. I arrived at room 2-C and entered. The interesting fact was, that the class was as good as new, even if the explosion was little, there was a degree of damage done to it. It was fascinating how they repaired that in 1 single day.

Only half of the class was present, but that was obvious, because our lessons would start half an hour later. When I arrived at my seat, I noticed a sheet of paper lying on my desk. I looked at it to confirm its contents.

Name

Hikaru

Year

2nd year

Main Course

Basic Magic, Homeroom à 2-C

Side Courses

Rune Magic à RC (Rune class)

martial arts à Training grounds

With a little signature “Good luck from Amelie”, I confirmed who wrote it. I was really thankful that she told me the rooms where my classes were. Moreover, after the tour the day before, orientation was no problem any longer, which made the issue of knowing where my classes would take place, was even more important.

Every day homeroom, as well as basic magic classes were from 9:00 until 14:00. With some shorter breaks during that time, we would learn the basics of magic and train to use it efficiently. After 14:00 we would have an hour break. It was so long, in order for us to reach our side courses, if we had some that day. I had Rune Magic from 15:00 to 18:00 at every 3rd school day, while martial arts were from 15:00 to 18:00 on the 5th day.

I sat down in my seat and waited for the class to start. Little by little, my other classmates arrived. Takeshi was in class 2-B so we wouldn’t meet until a break, which put my mind at ease for the moment. The 2 groups I interacted the most with, were lively as always. The 4 with William in the lead and the 3 with Sakura as the centre. At 9:00, when Amelie finally entered the room, everyone sat down and the lesson started.

“Good morning everyone, I hope you slept well. We will now start our first lesson and for that we will continue were we stopped last year. In the 1st half of the 1st year you learned pure theory of the usage of magic. In the 2nd half you learned to feel mana, and now in the 2nd year, we will focus on the usage and control of mana.”(Amelie)

Everyone got hyped up at her words. Even I knew that the usage of mana was the core of magic, so it was no wonder they were all hyped up.

“But before that, we will have to check if everyone is present. If you hear your name stand up please.”(Amelie)

The faces of my classmates had funny expressions after that. But nonetheless, everyone who heard their name stood up gave a short “Here” or “yes” and sat down again. I did the same.

“So now that I know that everyone is present, let’s start with testing your affinity to the elements. For that I have brought a testing stone. I know it’s an important moment but please don’t be nervous when you get tested, just concentrate on this stone and everything will be fine. I believe that everyone in this class is special and will achieve good results.”(Amelie)

One after the other went down to her and put their hand on the testing stone. When you have affinity for an element, the stone would show its colour. Red for fire, blue for water, green for wind and yellow for earth. There are some exceptions if they are able to use 2 or even 3 elements. If that happens, the colour of the stone is halve, 1 half for each element. Strangely no one had affinity with light or darkness, but when I thought about it, only 3 out of 100 of my students had any affinity with it so it was unlikely to appear in only a fifth of that number.

Sakura had, as I predicted, the most talent and when she put her hand on the testing stone, it shone red, blue and yellow. Everyone just whispered that she was a genius or unbelievable. I would have liked to see their faces when they knew that I had affinity for all elements but I wouldn’t see them. William was 2nd with red and yellow, closely followed by Ryo with blue and green and Haruto with red and green. There were only 2 others in my class who achieved double elements, all the others only had affinity with 1 element.

I was last and when it was my turn, I stood up from my seat and went to the front. I put my hand on the stone and controlled my mana, so that the testing stone would only light up green for wind. It shone green, so I sighed and showed a relieved expression about the fact that everything went well and I didn’t stand out any further. What hurt my pride a little bit was a mocking laugh coming from behind, which obviously came from William.

“Haha, trash will always stay trash. You have only affinity with wind magic, haha. Do you know that it is considered as the weakest magic amongst all of elements?”(William)

When I looked at Amelie, she turned away and seemed rather depressed. I smiled and turned around to face my class.

“If I am trash what are you, who got beaten by trash not once but twice? And not only in a 1 on 1, but a 4 on 1. Ah right, I am sorry I forgot, that is your so called pride, right? Do you want to try again fighting me, now that you have added double affinity to your pride?”(Me)

It was obviously an indication that with only talent and pride no one would win a battle. Every little error in a fight could change its outcome. When my “talentless” classmates noticed that, they were motivated to work hard and those with “talent” just laughed at my counter. In the meantime, William’s face changed colour again. From normal to red and it seemed like he would explode any moment. I smirked and went back to my seat.

“Well, now that we finished this, let’s start with real magic, shall we?”(Amelie)

She said, seeming rather down. Probably because 2 of the students of her class seemed to dislike each other. I thought that because after finishing her sentence, she looked at the both of us. When she looked at me, I just showed her my thumb up and even she a teacher, had to laugh because of it.
