Chapter 28 starting the search

I acted like we had no time, due to 2 important reasons. 1st because I wanted my students to spread as fast as they could and 2nd to tease Sylphy. But mostly because of making a name for the black continent, teasing was only a secondary factor. Actually, I had about 2 weeks to finish my quest and come back to school. With about 14 days left, I had a lot of time to start searching for that group.

The most efficient way of doing things, was that I first went to the dungeon mentioned in the quest and finish the quest. Because 1st, if I finished the dungeon as fast as possible, I would have had a lot of time to search and 2nd I wouldn’t come back to school with a failed quest. And doing it in the last second would give me a lot of stress and I’d really hate that.

The dungeon was located at the border of the human continent and the beastmen continent. It hadn’t been scouted to the deepest floor yet, so the danger level was unknown. Until the moment, I stepped into it, of course. After travelling around in full speed for half a day, I arrived at the dungeon and with my overpowered dark form, I reached the lowest floor in the time of 1 or 2 hours.

The last boss looked like a quite formidable fire monster. I had never seen it before and after killing it in 1 strike with [Dark Repulsion], a spell I created while experimenting with my dark form, I would also never see it again. [Dark Repulsion] was similar to the attack I once used to kill everyone on the black continent, as the mana first explodes and afterwards gets attracted to the user again. This doesn’t only do damage on the outside, because of the impact, it can also shatter organs and bones.

I took some materials I needed to finish the quest from monsters I found on my way down and with the quest being taken care of, I had more than enough free time to search for the group of 8.

I started at the nearest town where they have been lastly seen. I paid the entrance fee and entered. From my days as an adventurer, I knew that if I needed information, it would be best to search at bars or inns for them. The problem was that bars wouldn’t let me in, because I was still a child and inns only picked up rumours instead of trustworthy information.

When I still had Kylie, it was a lot easier, because she would play a lost child in the bar, ask for whatever we wanted to know and if someone followed us later on, I would beat him up. I asked around in town, but no one seemed to know where they have gone. The reason why I would never do something like that was, because I had some little pride left in me. Due to dungeon exploring and travelling, it was already late, so I stayed at an inn for the night. I left town the next morning and wandered around the region for a bit. I had no clues, so the only option was to wander around and hope to get lucky.

“Where would I go after stirring up trouble between 2 races?”(Me)

I asked myself when I rested under a tree.

“No. The better question would be, why would I even want a war between 2 races?”(Me)

There were a lot of possibilities, but I focused on the more likely ones.

“Destruction of the world? Could be but let’s not think about that for now. Perhaps as a distraction? No, there are many more efficient ways to do that. To search for something? Why would I need a war then?”(Me)

I had many questions I wanted an answer for. After asking that many question, I noticed that I would not be able to provide myself with answers if I only sat around doing nothing. After I continued looking around, wandering through the land, I somehow left the main roads and managed to get lost in a forest. Navigating and directions were definitely not my strength.

It wasn’t really spectacular for me getting lost in a forest, because there was nothing to fear, but as soon as I entered the forest I noticed some people following me. I was on guard the second I noticed them following me. But after some while, I noticed how sloppy they were and thought of them as a threat level of some random thugs or bandits.

I knew my strength and was sure that if they were to engage into a fight with me, I could take care of them with little effort, more important without dark form. I didn’t mind them at all and just continued my walk through the forest while guessing their objectives.

“Sigh. Why do they hide, can’t they just come at me? That would spare us all a lot of time.”(Me)

I said to myself as silent as possible so that they couldn’t hear me. Until I realised what I just said, I kept going.

“Hide? I know I can beat them, why should I hide? Is that what they intended? To bait someone? But who? Who would be stupid enough to get baited by their taunt?”(Me)

I totally emerged myself in my thoughts and forgot about the pursuers.

It’s not someone from the beastmen that’s for sure. They could even enrage their king so there would be no gain if they start a war, they could have just used whatever they did to gain from the beastmen king.

My followers noticed that I was deep in thoughts and approached slowly.

Someone from the humans? For magic? But why did they include the beastmen then? Is there any other possible target?

When I looked up I stood face to face in front of the people following me. I knew the answers to my questions in the next second.

“Our job was to bring the nightmare and not a little child. Get lost as long as we let you go kid.”(Leader of the pack)

“Are you sure you guys could beat the nightmare?”(Me)

“We don’t need to beat it, we just have to bait it.”(Leader of the pack)

He said clearly annoyed by me.

“Our boss told us that it would react, as long as we bring up the name Kylie Bricksl.”(Leader)
