Chapter 20 Why me?

Chapter 20 Why me?

Our boat was a small sailing ship, which we could also row in the worst case of no wind. As soon as we bought it from a merchant, we immediately boarded it and set sails. We were asked if we weren’t too young for sailing, but as soon as we showed him the gold coins, he shut up and sold it to us.

“Let’s split navigating in day and night shifts. I’ll take the first day shift.”(Takeshi)

Because of the voting system I used once, Takeshi and Sakura wanted to use it for every single decision. No one had any objectives against the shifts. No one except me. The others just ignored me though.

The worst thing of it was that I got the first night shift. Out of the two and a half day intended travel time, Takeshi had the first day shift, I had the first night shift, Hiro second day, Hayate second night and Takeshi third day. Something definitely went wrong when distributing them.

“Come on. What’s so bad about the sea?”(Hayate)

“I nearly died on the sea, ok.”(Me)

“Haha, don’t worry, everything will run smoothly this time.”(Takeshi)

“That’s what it wants you to think. Then you let your guard down and it’s too late.”(Me)

“Oh, shut up will you?”(Hiro)

“Those are justified thoughts.”(Me)

“Sigh.”(Takeshi)

Takeshi showed me the cold shoulder and turned to Sakura. She was still completely new to those conversations. She kept quiet in the back. At least we had one person who didn’t argue against me.

“I’m sorry.”(Sakura)

When even she said something like that, I had no chance to explain anything. I sat down in a corner of the deck, where I wouldn’t hinder anyone.

It was extremely hot. Blue sky, the sun was shining down, no clouds far and wide. The nice weather and the silent sea cooled me down a bit and I lied down for the rest of the day to get some sleep; otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to stay awake during my shift.

Even though I was lying on wood, I slept comfortably. Everything was fine, until Takeshi woke me up for my turn. Night shifts were extremely boring, because everyone else was asleep.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

When I opened my eyes, I could only see water. All around us only water. Well I could also see the sky and the moon, but there was no civilization, no islands, nothing but water.

“Just go straight ahead and we are on course.”(Takeshi)

“I’ll do my best.”(Me)

“Sigh. Good night.”(Takeshi)

After a few minutes, Takeshi fell asleep and I was the only one left awake. Luckily, the sea was still quiet. Even the small waves made me somewhat nervous. I kept telling myself just to go straight ahead and thought of nothing else.

Because I focused on diverting my mind from the sea, I didn’t notice small clouds showing up one after another. It wasn’t that bad at the beginning, but after a while, they got bigger and bigger. The sky became completely black.

I only realized it when it started raining heavily, which was already too late. The small to normal sized waves, became big ones, which could almost destroy our small ship. The poor weather and the turbulent sea managed to wake the others.

“What the…” (Takeshi)

“I told you the sea hates me.”(Me)

“This has nothing to do with that.”(Hiro)

“Guys. Focus on getting us out of here!”(Sakura)

This was no time for fun or anything alike. The most important thing was to get all of us out alive. The ship was already starting to tear apart because of the strength of those huge waves.

“I will hold it together, Hiro will support the exterior and Takeshi will take the steering wheel.”(Me)

“Hayate, we’ll help where they need us.”(Sakura)

“Yes.”(Hayate)

I used mana to form two hands, which grabbed the two sides of the ship and held it together. The situation looked good and the ship was stabilized, but it was extremely exhausting and I couldn’t hold out like that for too long.

“Looks good, just don’t give in!”(Takeshi)

“You really are a magic maniac.”(Sakura)

“Huh?”(Me)

“As if that is anything a normal person could come up with.”(Sakura)

“It’s only controlling some mana.”(Me)

“Magic is also about controlling mana you know.”(Hiro)

“Shut up and…” (Me)

A wave was hitting us from the left side and the ship was about to keel over. I couldn’t move from my place or the ship would get wrecked. Luckily, Hayate reacted quickly and jumped out of the boat to support the other side.

“Whatever you’re doing it’s working.”(Takeshi)

Sakura was going to the side Hayate was to look if he was ok.

“What?!He’s standing on water.”(Sakura)

“He’s probably focusing mana under his feet.”(Me)

She looked another time, this time a little bit closer.

“You’re right.”(Sakura)

The ship stabilized again and Hayate jumped back in.

“It is possible to do something like that with only man?”(Sakura)

“You’d be surprised what else you can do with mana alone.”(Me)

“Hm.”(Sakura)

“Ah guys, I really don’t want to interrupt you, but everyone hold on tight!”(Takeshi)

Everyone stopped talking and looked to the front.

“Fuck.”(Hiro)

A wave, bigger than all the others came at us from up front. Everyone ran to a side of the ship and held on. The wave hit us with all its momentum, but didn’t stop, we weren’t even a hindrance to it.

I was swirled around by all the water masses. First, I lost sense of direction. Afterwards, I lost my breath and lastly I lost my consciousness. The last thoughts I had before I passed out were: “Why always me?”.

Even if the sea hated me, it would always safely send me to a coast. Not the designated coast though. The next thing I remembered was drawing for breath and choking out some water.

I sat up and opened my eyes. I found myself on a beach and when I looked around a bit, the others were lying next to me. Everyone was unconscious, but we all lied in a perfect line next to each other. The boat probably were destroyed or were washed somewhere else, because not even some parts of wood remained. With us.

We stranded on an unknown island and I had a strange feeling about it.
